So it’s actually coming to Linux?

Yes but this is the streaming software service not the tool to optimise the local Nvidia GPU. Steam Deck has an AMD GPU.

This is purely about their cloud streaming service having a native app.

You can already use GeForce Now cloud gaming on Linux if you want. There is an unofficial electron app, or you can use Wine to run it. It can also run in a browser with some tweaks (to pretend you're running a supported OS).

But a native app makes sense for steam deck and is a good thing for Linux. Hopefully it is made widely available for Linux in the same way their proprietary drivers are now relatively easy to install on most big distros.

I mean, based on the last time I talked to Nvidia support about how why the app didn't support various platforms, it just means they will now support that specific distro. You're still going to be SOL if you have questions or issues on any other.

Official support for any distro is not that important, imo. If they actually deliver a native GeForce NOW app for SteamOS, it'll likely work on other distros too (unless Nvidia actively blocks them/only supports Steam Deck controls specifically).

Hopefully they'll release the app on Steam directly, or better yet, to flathub. If they only release a script to install it specifically on the Steam Deck, like the beta script they currently have, I'll be disappointed.

Though I agree, I think my issue previously was that they were specifically blocking it on non whitelisted platforms. I'll see if I can find the thread.
