You just had a social media platform named after you

[–] jerrimu@lemmy.world 36 points 2 years ago (1 children)

On behalf of Gen X I humbly refuse.

[–] TIEPilot@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

As member of Gen X, I second the motion.

[–] Hextic@lemmy.world 74 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Lemme sum up Gen X

Oh well whatever, nevermind

That's on y'all 😂 in practice the older of you is indistinguishable from Boomers and the younger are basically Oregon Trail Millennials like myself. Analog childhood, digital adulthood.

[–] YourHuckleberry@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Here we are now, entertain us.

[–] voidMainVoid@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

How now, how now, how now brown cow

[–] lance20000@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago

Like, you know, whatever.

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's a very good summary. I find some young gen x and older millennials to be borderline luddites as well, but generally share social values.

[–] jerrimu@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Get off my lawn, we have our own shit.

[–] mightyfoolish@lemmy.world -5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

A 30 year old is indistinguishable from a 60 year old?

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

30 year olds are Millennials. You'd have to be at least in your 40's to be considered a Gen X kid.

[–] mightyfoolish@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Sorry, bad reading comprehension on my part. I accidentally read gen x as boomer somehow. That got me thinking who would confuse a boomer with a millennial...

[–] JonVonBasslake@lemmy.world 41 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Or they were omitted because Gen X isn't harassed by boomers most of the time, and us Millennials know that they're chill with us. And personally, I don't care what a bunch of teenagers thinks of me. Or any other generation for that matter. I only care about what the people close to me think of me.

[–] oatscoop@midwest.social 15 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

teenagers

The cutoff for Gen Z is 1997, which means there are 26 year old zoomers.

I know, I don't like it either -- 1997 was 16 years ago at most.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I like how Gen Z has the easiest litmus for qualification. If you were old enough to remember 9/11, you're not a Zoomer.

It's a lot trickier for Millennials, because everyone disagrees on when it starts, but most people agree that they grew up during a time where access to technology was just starting to take off.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

If the cutoff is 1997, a 4 year old is definitely old enough to remember 9/11.

[–] jerrimu@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

They're scared to harass us, well put them in a nursing home.

[–] zombie_kong@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

That’s how we like it.

[–] BrownTown@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I feel like Gen X has never been forgotten. Us Millennials never got an intro like you guys did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i011c5NcPsg

[–] SteefLem@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Was about to say i think they missed a step

[–] Brocon@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] Deuces@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There are dozens of us! Dozens!

[–] Brocon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah. Well. Blame the boomers for not fucking enough :D

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Their parents would have been more in the silent generation. You usually skip a generation for your own line, unless you're a teenage parent.

The boomers fucked plenty, that's why millennials were once called echo boomers.

[–] gornar@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Came looking for this, and at least we remember each other!

[–] YourHuckleberry@lemmy.world -4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (4 children)

Millennials think everyone older than them is a boomer. If you try to correct them, they call you a pedant.

Edit: They're also really sensitive to being criticized.

[–] Roundcat@kbin.social 25 points 2 years ago
[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm a 40 year old millennial. I don't think 50 year olds are boomers unless they act like it.

[–] YourHuckleberry@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I'm a 44 year old GenXer and I don't think 50 year olds are boomers unless they're time travelers.

[–] SgtAStrawberry@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It goes both ways, to be honest. I have seriously heard some people blame/pity millennials for stuff that gen-z do/goes through. I'm quite sure I even heard a boomer vs millennial take, that was really a millennial vs z take.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Whatever the generation, you can always count on dumb people existing.

[–] SgtAStrawberry@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

That is so true

[–] skulblaka@kbin.social 9 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Boomers think anyone younger than them is a millennial. If you try to correct them they call you a millennial anyway. Or a liberal.
