What's everyone doing tomorrow night?

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 8 points 7 months ago

I doubt I'll have the capacity to stay up until midnight. Too used to early starts with work.

If I'm splinter free I might do a celebratory pizza. If there are still any finger issues I'll have a consolation risotto instead.

I'm just staying home. I bought some ginger beers, and will probably watch the fireworks on my phone (on that note - tomorrow nights DT will be early)

Can't be arsed going on a train and being puked on by people who've had a few too many, or nearly getting blown up by fireworks again

Well, you've had some interesting NYEs haven't you?

[–] Baku@aussie.zone 4 points 7 months ago

Unfortunately indeed

There's a whole timeline going on there! Pre 2018 I realllly wanted fireworks, but we were too rural to ever get them, save for occasionally every few years they'd do a rural show in our area and do fireworks. 2018 and 2019 I was too young to go myself, and nobody would take me. 2020 they replaced it with a bloody "three day food and wine tasting festival". 2021 I came down with COVID and was too tired and unwell to go anywhere. 2022 I finally saw fireworks, but I went to a bad spot in St Kilda where the city ones were obstructed. But people set their own ones off on the beach so it wasn't a net negative

2023 I finally saw the proper ones. I watched from Williamstown. But someone nearly blew everyone on the beach up with their stupid illegal fireworks. They came shooting right at me. Then everyone was just getting really stupid and it felt like it was about to devolve into a riot or something so I bailed. I skipped dinner though so eventually started feeling sick, but only pubs were still open. And they were all packed to the rafters, so I wasn't daring, if they'd even let me in (felt more like a drinking pub and after-party, not really an eating pub). I ended up getting stale arse wraps from 7 eleven and waiting about 45 mins on average between each train I had to catch. And I was feeling sick the whole night

I haven't actually been puked on yet, but it feels like an inevitability on a train full of drunk people at 1am. I was once on a night train where someone puked opposite me. Pretty sure that was just a normal Friday night though

Very little. Might go up to Ruckers Hill and watch the fireworks from a safe distance. There's some raised platforms in the local parks that are good viewpoints too. Spoiled for choice really. Other than that probably nothing much. Have some celebratory food planned, and the peaches on my mini tree are just coming up ripe so might have a peach fest before the bats discover them. At least the weather looks like being fairly mild so maybe not so many drunken revellers finding their way home by braille as last year.

I'll watch the fireworks

One of my friends throws a house party every year. He goes to a lot of effort. It’s close to home, only people I like are there, great food (there’s a spit, desserts), lots of drinking and dancing. It’s a really good note for bringing in the new year.

If it wasn’t for this party every year, I’d probably just stay home. I find NYE out overrated, all this pressure to have a great night, usually very crowded and $$. Did the city one year, never again.

Oooo a spit. I'm envious. I've been invited to a friend's place but I can't be bothered. Enjoy yourself. It sounds great.

Nothing out of the ordinary. Finish work at 4ish and will head home and chill as usual!

Going to an event at a bar. Drinking lol

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 4 points 7 months ago

No plans. Prolly give Mickey some catnip and watch the fireworks from the hallway windows lol.

Dinner with some friends & the neighbours. I think we will all be struggling to stay awake until midnight, lol. Rage on!

Minipeelers and I have our own little party where we watch the early fireworks on tv and eat snack foods of various kinds. Hopefully the entertainment is good this year.

The best kind.
