just a heads up, another way of potentially thinking about this is anguishing the murder of a murderer.
Murder is indeed wrong.
Simultaneously trying to defend a murderer is often seen as an unpopular decision especially if their crimes are made in public hence the current situation.
So you're correct in one point but on the wrong side of current public opinion.
