We're supposed to learn that from almost every election in the last couple of years. I mean specifically what's the message of this comic strip.

The message of the comic strip is that democracy doesn't guarantee the best results.

Even if I don't vote to kill me, everyone else can vote to kill me.

FWIW, this comic vastly predates the last couple of years - it was published in the 1997-2002 range.
