A pre-existing community, mostly. Three quarters of the people in this thread all joined at the same time (the same day, many of us) and for the same reason.

This is truly the best of the internet in my experience. I'm blessed to be a melbournian because of the amazing people here. We came here and left the trolls behind at the other place so it's been naturally curated to just the people who want to have a community.
I've made real true friends through here, and learn so much from the knowledge people share here. It's what the internet should be imo

Edit: Iβm trying to get discussion threads going elsewhere, in the past Iβve found consistency of posting them helps so people are used to there being a thread.
Unfortunately the instances are a bit slow even for weekly so I do a monthly thread and try to show activity so more people feel itβs current enough to jump in.
