I think it could, and I think we've already squandered that chance once this century.

Obama ignored the DNC, because they tried to Carter him in the general hoping he'd lose and Hillary would go in four years.

So when he became president and had the chance to replace leadership and spend 8 years completely restructuring the DNC to represent the modern base....

He just left them alone to do their own thing. And they just Smeagoled away waiting for Hillary to come back.

We won the fucking fight, that was it. If Obama had done his job we would have had a united progressive front in 2016 and trump would have never made it past a joke. We'd be coming out of second term Bernie right now.

That doesn't mean we stop trying, it means we double down and keep going.

Talk about any other contingency if you want, but never stop trying the obvious answer that the most people are likely to participate in

Why do you believe Obama didn't overhaul the DNC from the top down? Do you believe it was simply because he didn't want to, he physically couldn't, or a combination? Marxists have been discussing the reform vs revolution question for centuries, and the conclusion is that reform has about the same chance as asking the boss of a megacorp you work at to give you the reigns. Technically non-zero, but so unlikely that effort must be put into revolutionary party building.

Reform may be the easiest solution to swallow, but is by far the least likely solution to actually enact change, tragically.
