Honestly this is why I think fears of one instance growing too large are overblown. If Lemmy.ml pulls a reddit, then I'll just move to beehaw. In fact I already have a lemmy.ml and a kbin.social account. I might make a beehaw anyway.

Right, but unless there's a migration or backup process I'm unaware of, doesn't your entire user history get torched if an instance goes down?

I guess, but a small price to pay. The point is the fediverse wouldn't go away. Or my app of choice. I've abandoned reddit profiles before, so it's NBD to me.
