A coalition of resistance groups had seized sections of Union Highway 8 in the country’s deep south, but is now struggling to hold on in the face of a major military counter-offensive.

This is why the military is losing. They are fighting on many fronts: in the North and North-east against 3 brotherhood, in the West against AA, Chins and PDF, in the East against Karens and Karennis, South per this article, and in the major cities and around them against the local resistance people and PDF.
