I have a raspberry pi camera running but it's behind two layers of authentication so should be fine.

I wouldn't trust it. Maybe I am just more paranoid than a normal person though. If there is a way to get in, I assume someone will eventually.

I open and close ports. I don't leave them open all the time but when I leave for a vacation I open them. I do have a ssh port open but it's set to only allow key auth and not passwords. Also I don't run it on the default port.
