Well, I use WhatsApp and some other close source app. I have to go manually download APKs and install it.
Do you have a particular reason for not using Aurora Store?

Wait WhatsApp works on degoogled phones? I heard they started banning custom ROM users recently and degoogled ROMs can't be spoofed to look exactly like stock ones so isn't that dangerous?
Take a backup of whatsapp on working device and restore it on your degoogled device

I de-googled my device by removing GAPPS for user0.
