Statehood & Autonomy Fight to get congress to vote to make the city council fully independent from congress without the ability to override laws or the budget.

Proportional Representation Change the voting system to proportional where the percentage of the vote = percentage of seats. Also up the number of seats to 50.

Labor rights Create a labor court where you can challenge getting fired without cause and if you win they have to reinstate you and pay 1.5X of the missed time.

Minimum of 10 days PTO per year.

Employees have a right to not be disturbed outside of work. If the employer wants to talk they must pay them a minimum of 1 hour per phone call or task.

Employees must be given consistent hours, and schedule any change without the consent are grounds for mandatory severance pay.

Require rules be enforced equally against everyone or it is unlawful termination. Logs must be kept of every disciplinary action to prove if they go to court.

Modernize and put things online -Make the DC websites easier to use -Move 90% of the DMV online and let them print IDs in office.

Enforcing fines Make it policy to tow and impound all cars with over 1K in fines. Have a special MPD and Metro Transit police task force to go after and arrest anyone with over 1K in unpaid fines. Bring them to court, they will have their vehicle held for a month if they don't pay the vehicle will be sold, if its not enough they will be held in contempt in jail until its paid by someone or until 1 year has passed.

House the homeless Create more homeless housing so we can get them off the street.

Enforcement and prevention of gate hopping Put an automatic siren that goes off if 2 people go though the same gate. 10 foot barriers with spikes

That's all really because this city is hands down the best place I've lived in the country

If Maryland made a special constitutional amendment that could only be changed by a vote of the people of DC and they granted

  1. Total self governance, DC can make and enforce and laws and taxes it wants within the city, and doesn't have to follow laws or taxes of Maryland.
  2. All Licenses and certifications will be accepted from Maryland to DC and DC to Maryland
  3. DC will be its own congressional district, its own electoral college district and have its own districts for the state house and senate, with a rule that it will never be split up or become a minority of another district.

Starting  next month, those bright red buses with yellow accents will start disappearing from D.C. streets. After nearly 20 years, the D.C. Circulator will be completely gone by the end of the year

On a recent weekday morning, I rode three of the Circulator’s 6 bus routes across the city, from Dupont Circle to Rosslyn, from Georgetown to Union Station, and from Union Station to Congress Heights. Several riders told me that the end of the Circulator will add more time to their commutes. Kyle Parker, who uses the Circulator to get to to construction jobs around the city, says the Circulator gives him more options when wait times for Metrobus are too long. *“*The Circulator pretty much do a good job just being in between the routes,” says Parker.

WMATA released a plan last week to expand Metrobus service to cover the gaps caused by the elimination. However, many riders, particularly those who rely on Circulator routes in the southern quadrants of the city, will still miss out.

I applied for a contract job at one of the government offices in a certain field and they gave me an offer at the place but for a completely unrelated field after one interview, without any communication on doing so. For example, if I were in medicine, it's like being a face doctor and they gave me a job in podiatry. Is this normal? I assumed if I apply to job X and I'm told I have an offer, that it would be for job X.

U.S. racks up munitions costs in indefinite fight against Houthis

Those strikes come with a significant price tag. In some cases, U.S. forces have used Tomahawk missiles, which can cost about $2 million each. But even beyond the costs themselves, analysts warn that the U.S. is quickly depleting its weapons stockpiles, which were already running thin after years of military support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.

“The price of the munitions themselves may be pennies to the Pentagon financially, but using so many of them amounts to a significant blow to our actual stockpiles of these weapons,” said Mr. DiMino, the Defense Priorities analyst. “By some estimates, the Navy has already used more than a year’s worth of [Tomahawk missile] production in Yemen. It takes time to build these things. So, the costs are not just sticker price. It can set back our production by years in some cases.”

Did the Metro System go out of its way to find the most slippery tiles they could find and pave every flat surface with them?

If this means they won't come to VA I'm all for it. Let's hope DC, MD, and VA all tell the Commanders to pay up or shut up.

No taxpayer money for stadiums!!!

Local subreddits like this are definitely what will be the hardest to recreate in my opinion, but they were also the best part of reddit. Hopefully we get some kind of migration.
