There’s a monopoly on home construction screwing over America. The biggest builders work with Wall St. to maximize profits, at the expense of everyone who wants to own a home. One family told us that the black mold in their poorly built home made their daughter cry blood.

More Perfect Union is an Emmy-winning, nonprofit newsroom whose mission is to build power for working people. Here’s what that means: We report on the real struggles and challenges of the working class from a working-class perspective. We attempt to connect those problems to potential solutions. We report on the abuses and wrongdoing of corporate power. And we seek to hold accountable the ultra-rich who have too much power over America’s political and economic systems. This week, Professor Yan Liang joins Amanda Yee to discuss Two Sessions, the annual meetings of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, which sets the country’s political and economic trajectory for the next year. Along with highlighting Beijing’s plans for AI, economic growth, and investment in people’s wellbeing, Liang explains how Two Sessions is exemplary of China’s whole process people’s democracy, drawing contrasts to the U.S. system, in which legislation is determined by lobbyists and corporate interests. Our understanding of China — and U.S.-China relations — has become a defining feature of all global politics. The China Report is a weekly show that provides an independent view of the country we are taught to hate, but know so little about. U.S. Army veteran and Center on Conscience and War Executive Director Mike Prysner discusses with Rania Khalek the growing resistance to a war with Iran inside the U.S. military. As Washington edges toward a possible ground invasion, active-duty troops and their families are flooding the group’s hotline seeking ways to avoid deployment. Prysner explains the legal options for soldiers who refuse to fight, and what the spike in calls reveals about morale, public opinion, and the limits of U.S. war-making power. #breakthroughnews

“International law has been completely pushed to the side, and that creates a very dangerous environment.” On Novara Live, Middle East expert Jasmine El-Gamal explains how years of total impunity have empowered Israel to casually discuss the extrajudicial assassination of foreign leaders.

How do we mentally survive and maintain optimism in these times? Thought of all these while taking a shower yesterday morning and trying to pull from my own methods and advice because I desperately needed my own reminder. Also apologies for once again bringing faith into it, I tried to only apply it using the practical skills people tend to find within the actions of that sort of community involvement rather than any sense of higher power. ANYHOW I genuinely hope this helps those looking for advice or something to latch on to for ease ❤️ #history #education #news

Brian Becker, host of The Socialist Program, discusses the rapidly escalating U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and warns that Washington may have badly miscalculated, expecting Tehran to quickly capitulate rather than fight back. He argues that the conflict risks spiraling into a much wider regional, or even global, war, while highlighting the long history of U.S. intervention in Iran dating back to the 1953 CIA-backed coup. “This is a major war,” explains Becker, “If you had asked people in 1913 — the year before World War I started, a war that took 20 million lives in four years — ‘Will there be a world war?’ Almost no one would have said yes. We can see that coming.” #breakthroughnews

After the US and Israel attacked Iran, Tehran's strategy of asymmetric warfare is clear: it closed the Strait of Hormuz and is attacking energy infrastructure in the Persian Gulf, causing global oil and natural gas prices to skyrocket, crashing stock markets, fueling inflation, and provoking an economic crisis that will hurt the USA and its allies. The conflict has also become a battle of attrition. Iran is using cheap missiles and drones to deplete the defense interceptors of neighboring countries, which will be very difficult to replace, due to deindustrialization, despite Trump administration efforts to boost production. Ben Norton explains. As U.S. and Israeli bombs rain down on Tehran, University of Tehran Professor Foad Izadi speaks with Rania Khalek about the staggering human toll of an "unprovoked" war that has already claimed over 1,000 Iranians. Izadi discusses how Washington willfully sabotaged diplomatic talks, choosing instead a campaign of regime change that is trying to leverage ethnic separatists to balkanize the country. He warns that the assassination of Iran’s leadership has backfired, unifying the nation and ending the era of restraint. He warns that Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states should be deeply concerned: if Iran is successfully targeted, they could be next, as U.S. and Israeli ambitions threaten to destabilize the entire region. #breakthroughnews

Nation-states are an invisible and seemingly inevitable and eternal part of the infrastructure that forms our society: the water we swim in. Rarely do we pause to consider how this global system of nation-states came into being, and what might replace it after its gone. But as the United States wages a war of aggression on Iran, in a move that will drive up oil prices and the cost of living for ordinary citizens all over the world, the question presents itself anew: who do nation-states serve; what are they for? On Downstream this week is the author and essayist Rana Dasgupta, whose latest book, ‘After Nations: The Making and Unmaking of a World Order,’ tackles these questions head-on. In conversation with Aaron Bastani, they discuss: What is a nation-state? How did they come to replace the role of religion in the liberal era? Do states need their citizens to have rights? What are the most salient challenges to the nation-state today? And were the gains in workers’ rights of the last century a sign that progress and democracy will triumph in the end, or something more like a historical blip? 00:00 Intro 02:28 What Is a Nation-State? 06:51 A European Creation, Based on Exploitation 11:35 Divine Authority: King Louis IX and the Crown of Thorns in 13th Century France 19:22 Islamic Critiques of the Nation-State 25:22 Charles Maurras, and Conservative European Critiques of the State 28:50 The Parallels Between Islam and the European Far Right 33:20 The Glorious Revolution, Liberalism, and the British State 39:59 Why The 18th Century State Didn’t Need Citizens to Have Rights 43:39 Is America Devolving into an 18th Century-style State? 48:44 Could Americans Lose Their Democracy? 53:03 The New Technological Powers of 21st Century States 53:38 The Relationship Between Asia’s Rise and the West’s Fall 1:00:28 How Close Was 11th Century Song Dynasty China to an Industrial Revolution? 1:02:12 Why Did Some Countries NOT Have an Industrial Revolution? 1:04:29 America’s Use of the Nation State for Empire Building 1:11:08 Signs that the American Century is Over 1:11:47 How China Has Out-Flanked America 1:15:41 China Is Protecting Its Own Environment While Wrecking Others 1:22:06 What Comes After the Nation-State and the Failed Project of Global Liberalism? 1:30:10 The Next World Order, Ecology and the One-ness of Planetary Systems

Support our work: http://novara.media/support The most powerful military in the world doesn’t know what it’s for. The US military is changing shape: it’s increasingly high-tech, intelligence led, and focused on assassinations. In short, the Israeli model. And the changing shape of war means changing flows of money and power. The primes, which have dominated the military industrial complex for decades, now face competition from firms from Silicon Valley: Palantir and Anduril most famously. But does their tech actually work? Or does it just drag the US into wars it doesn’t even know why it’s fighting? Jamal Abdi, President of the National Iranian American Council discusses the "war industry" driving theU.S.-Israeli war on Iran and the coordinated propaganda effort to frame the bombing campaign as a "liberation." Abdi details the chilling effects of state surveillance and online intimidation on the Iranian diaspora, arguing that the "imminent threat" narrative is a decades-old facade used to justify a war of choice. #breakthroughnews

The U.S.-Israeli war on Iran has erupted, and the Middle East is on the brink of all-out regional war. But as Tehran faces its greatest crisis in decades, many in the U.S. — including Western media — are asking, “Why isn't Beijing stepping in to help Iran?” Professor Shen Yi from Fudan University joins Amanda Yee to explain the reality of China and Iran’s strategic partnership, how China approaches foreign relations, and how this crisis will impact the Xi-Trump summit at the end of March. Our understanding of China — and U.S.-China relations — has become a defining feature of all global politics. The China Report is a weekly show that provides an independent view of the country we are taught to hate, but know so little about. Zarrinnal discusses the regional fallout of the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader, the failure of "strategic patience," and how the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is being used to levy a global economic cost against the escalation. #breakthroughnews
