Dunbar Earthquake and Emergency Preparedness (DEEP) invites you to a 1-hour talk on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 7pm at the Dunbar Community Centre (room 202). John Halldorson, a founding member of DEEP, will talk about individual, family and neighbourhood disaster preparedness.

After a disaster, when emergency services are overwhelmed, help from your neighbours may be the only help immediately available. You will receive information and a workbook to help you and your neighbours:

  • identify the resources you have in your neighbourhood to respond in an effective and timely way after a disaster; and
  • locate your neighbourhood’s gas meters so you can quickly shut off leaking gas to reduce the threat of fire engulfing your homes.

You will also learn the important items you should have in your Grab & Go kit.

Please register for this in-person talk [in the link above].

Several videos floating around, some articles are reporting 1 dead (possibly the suspect).

Not sure if it's Wrestlemania, football, hockey, the Taylor Swift concert next week, all of it or what but everywhere this week has been hella crowded for what is usually a quieter November period.

Roadways filled with traffic, SkyTrain stations full of people having zero clue of where to go. Definitely keeps the pre-Christmas lull exciting. Anyone else noticing this?

More than $485 million in illicit drugs and drug ingredients seized in rural B.C. community

Some excerpts:

According to police, the amount of fentanyl and other materials seized would have amounted to more than 95,500,000 potentially lethal doses and worth an estimated $485 million in profit.

The "superlab" was located in the community of Falkland, B.C., an unincorporated community about 50 kilometetres east of Kamloops.

The Mounties say the bust is a "decisive blow" to those who organized it and that in addition to the facility in Falkland, several locations in Surrey were also searched.

Aside from the drugs, which included 54 kilograms of fentanyl, 390 kilograms of methamphetamine and 35 kilograms of cocaine, police also seized 89 firearms, several small explosives, body armour and $500,000 in cash.
