This train runs every 30 minutes out to Kansai International Airport from Osaka.

Hello Urbanist Hive Mind,

I'm interested in designs that build on flood plains. I often seen the solution being (sacrificial) parking garages on the ground floor of flats.

It got me thinking what uses of that space have people seen that is useful from an urbanist perspective (i.e. not car parking).

What have people seen that works well? Maybe with the climate crisis we should avoid building on them at all?

Talking about the "bucketing" where they first sell x% of tickets at a cheap price, then the next x% at a higher price, and on and on until its expensive as shit.

This is really demoralizing as someone who'd like to be a bit more spontaneous, and be able hop on a train out of town (which is running either way and never full...), the price I get offered is like double the price if I booked 3-4+ months out.

There must be a better system.

somebody was asking about tow trucks in USA. Meanwhile in Canada.

Alexander Vinogradsky's Facebook posts share puns, poke fun at Gen Z and show off a trip to Tokyo Disneyland last year. In others, he is smiling or highlighting damaged cars in need of a tow.

But beneath the cheerful faces and overseas vacations, a constant menace lingered in Vinogradsky's life: as a kingpin in the Toronto area's tow truck underworld, he was a marked man.

Before he was gunned down March 28 outside a north-end Toronto plaza, he owned Paramount Towing, one of four outfits allegedly locked in a deadly turf war that prompted a major police crackdown in 2019 and 2020. The investigation prompted dozens of arrests — Vinogradsky's included.

If you read the general internet it's all mobbed up guys stealing cars from law-abiding single mothers for no reason at all but then again if I believed the general public about parking violation enforcement here in germany I'd come to the conclusion they're the new jews.

So how bad is that whole privatized towing / enforcement thing, really? Is there an actual problem beyond "it's a private company" or is it mostly carbrain tears?

President Joe Biden is reportedly seeking to revive a project that would construct a high-speed railway from Houston to Dallas in Texas utilizing Japanese bullet trains.

According to a Reuters report on Tuesday, citing unnamed administration sources, the White House is looking to make an announcement on the project following talks between Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Washington, D.C., this week.

The Japanese government and the White House declined to comment on the report, though the project has seen renewed support from Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who told KXAS in Fort Worth on Sunday: "We believe in this."

I was a bit close to the center line on a 2-lane 2-way street, and the tesla slowed down a bit as it came towards me. I saw the driver suddenly fumbling to fasten their seatbelt while I rode past. I think they were using self-driving mode, and maybe it alerted them when I was within some proximity range. It was a kinda funny moment once I realized what had happened.
