The Mullvad Browser is a privacy-focused web browser developed in collaboration with Mullvad VPN and the Tor Project. It aims to eliminate data collection and provide user-centric browsing services, ensuring online activity remains private and secure. The browser has the same fingerprinting protection as the Tor Browser, but connects to the internet without Tor Network or VPN instead. The Mullvad Browser provides anti-fingerprinting protections.

The idea is to provide one more alternative – beside the Tor Network – to browse the internet with more privacy. To get as many people as possible to fight the big data gathering of today. To free the internet from mass surveillance.

Hold your breath, because India has done something incredible! Picture this: a spacecraft from India gently landed on the moon, near its mysterious south pole. It's a bit like landing on a place where no one has really been before, and scientists are pretty excited. They think this area might have some precious stuff like frozen water and special elements.

At exactly 6:04 in the morning (that's early!), a special machine with a clever robot inside touched down super carefully on the moon. People in a city called Bengaluru, in the southern part of India, clapped and cheered like crazy when this happened. This achievement comes after an earlier try about four years ago didn't work out, so this time it's a really big deal.

The pictures it sends to Earth will be looked at carefully by people in India, who cheered happily when the spacecraft landed after a very nerve-wracking trip down. The landing was watched by millions of folks all over India, with nearly seven million tuning in to the live show on YouTube. The last few minutes of the countdown were the most intense, and lots of people said their hearts were racing.

Guess what? India has joined a special club! The United States, the Soviet Union, and China are the only other countries that have done this moon landing thing. This shows that India is getting really good at space technology and science.

Here's a twist in the story: Russia tried to do the same thing a few days ago, but their spacecraft got confused and crashed. They said it's because they haven't been studying the moon for a long time. See, exploring space isn't easy – there's so much to learn and figure out.

Imagine this: People all across India, where there are more people than anywhere else in the world, were glued to their TV screens. They even lit oil lamps and said prayers for the mission's success. It was a big moment for India's space agency, called ISRO. They said this achievement is like a really important step for Indian science, engineering, technology, and industry.

You know what's cool? This achievement could make young people really curious about space. It's like when you find something super interesting and you want to learn more about it. India's success here makes everyone proud and excited about science and technology.

Why is everyone so interested in the moon's south pole? Well, it's because there might be frozen water hiding in the shadows there. Water is super important, especially if we want to send astronauts to the moon in the future. The robot that came with India's spacecraft is like a science detective. It's going to study rocks, dirt, and even send special rays to figure out what things are made of.

This memo contains the thoughts and recountings of events that transpired during and after the release of information about the United States National Security Agency (NSA) by Edward Snowden in 2013. There are four perspectives: that of someone who was involved with sifting through the information to responsibly inform the public, that of a security area director of the IETF, that of a human rights expert, and that of a computer science and affiliate law professor. The purpose of this memo is to provide some historical perspective, while at the same time offering a view as to what security and privacy challenges the technical community should consider. These essays do not represent a consensus view, but that of the individual authors.

Any citizen of the social internet knows the feeling: that irritable contentiousness, that desire to get into it that seems almost impossible to resist, even though you know you’ve already squandered too many hours and too much emotional energy on pointless internet disputes. If you use Twitter, you may have noticed that at least half the posts seemed intent on making someone—especially you—mad. In his new book, Outrage Machine, the technology researcher Tobias Rose-Stockwell explains that the underlying architecture of the biggest social media platforms is essentially (although, he argues, unintentionally) designed to get under your skin in just this way. The results, unsurprisingly, have been bad for our sanity, our culture, and our politics.

On this topic, an increasingly popular one as the social media economy convulses in response to Twitter’s Elonification, the preferred tone is either stern jeremiad or, for the well and truly addicted commentator (usually a journalist), a sort of punch-drunk nihilism much like that of someone who declares he’ll never quit smoking even though it’s going to kill him. Rose-Stockwell, by contrast, keeps his cool, pointing out that social media is full of “angry, terrible content” that makes our lives worse, while carefully avoiding any sign of partisanship or panic.

Powerful people imprisoned by the cluelessness of their own isolation, locked up with their own motivated reasoning: "It's impossible to get a CEO to understand something when his quarterly earnings call depends on him not understanding it."

Take Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg insists that anyone who wanted to use a pseudonym online is "two-faced," engaged in dishonest social behavior. The Zuckerberg Doctrine claims that forcing people to use their own names is a way to ensure civility. This is an idea so radioactively wrong, it can be spotted from orbit.

From the very beginning, social scientists (both inside and outside Facebook) told Zuckerberg that he was wrong. People have lots of reasons to hide their identities online, both good and bad, but a Real Names Policy affects different people differently:

https://memex.craphound.com/2018/01/22/social-scientists-have-warned-zuck-all-along-that-the-facebook-theory-of-interaction-would-make-people-angry-and-miserable/

For marginalized and at-risk people, there are plenty of reasons to want to have more than one online identity – say, because you are a #MeToo whistleblower hoping that Harvey Weinstein won't sic his ex-Mossad mercenaries on you:

https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/harvey-weinsteins-army-of-spies

Or maybe you're a Rohingya Muslim hoping to avoid the genocidal attentions of the troll army that used Facebook to organize – under their real, legal names – to rape and murder you and everyone you love:

https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2022/09/myanmar-facebooks-systems-promoted-violence-against-rohingya-meta-owes-reparations-new-report/

But even if no one is looking to destroy your life or kill you and your family, there are plenty of good reasons to present different facets of your identity to different people. No one talks to their lover, their boss and their toddler in exactly the same way, or reveals the same facts about their lives to those people. Maintaining different facets to your identity is normal and healthy – and the opposite, presenting the same face to everyone in your life, is a wildly terrible way to live...

Thanks to @pluralistic - excellent work as always, Mr. Doctorow.
