SO my dumb ass ran babyFTP in windows 11 with all permissions without switching from home network to mesh network. everything was normal until my transfer suddenly stopped and when I went to restart the server it said "7 connections terminated" lenin-dont-laugh

SO what now? it had a browser vault and what I assume are decrypted emails via the Microsoft mail.

Should I dd it and do ~forensics~ as to what ran in powershell and what files changed most recently?

Nuke and pave?

is EVERY password in that browser vault burned?

Long story short: That pop-up you get when you open Firefox (or whatever other browser) for the first time asking you if you want to make it your default browser won't work anymore. They're forcing you to go through their convoluted control panel where you have to change it like 20 times for each file extension.

Recently I had a meeting with someone from my government's job seeker assistance program, who recommended I make better used of LinkedIn in looking for a job.

Specifically, she recommended that, if I find a job posting anywhere, I look the company up on LinkedIn, find someone who already works there, and message them directly to get the name of whomever is in charge of hiring, and even to ask if they'd be willing to give me a referral (which can be especially enticing if the company offers referral bonuses).

I hate doing this sort of "networking," where every interpersonal interaction is a veneer of courtesy in order to maximize returns, even though I know it's a necessity in today's professional world. It does not sit well with my particular brand of neurodivergence.

Since Hexbear is the most based community I know, even when it comes to professional bullshit of this sort, I was hoping someone here could sanity-check this approach. Maybe I just don't want to start hassling someone on social media without someone else telling me it's okay (besides a civil servant).

A little more background:

  • I was laid off last September from an unfulfilling but steady job with a video game publisher.
  • I have several years of experience in entry-level tech support jobs, with a bit of work on things like databases and scripting. I prefer the latter sort of work because people are confusing and frightening, but my last employer wouldn't even let me do minor work on that stuff, and the ones who do work on it are very defensive of their positions so they didn't offer any help either.
  • I know the tech sector is kind of fucked right now but that's all I have to work with.
  • I studied computer science in university but I had to settle for a degree in general studies because I failed integral calculus four times. This was before I was diagnosed with ADHD.
  • I don't have any certifications.
  • I don't have much of a code portfolio. I try to keep working on it but it's already all I can do to stay motivated with the job hunt.
  • I consistently get good feedback on my resume and I've always been a stand-out employee when I am working.

Now that I've written all this out I realize that my position is pretty envious compared to a lot of people. Still, after months of applications without so much as a callback, I've completely lost faith in my own judgment. So any feedback is appreciated. Thank you, comrades.

Anyone got any VPNs to recommend? I know there's a lot of varying quality out there. I'll appreciate any recommendations, but I'm just looking to pirate games (in U.S.) and not get a letter from my ISP, so whatever is simple and easy for that purpose.

Roku is exploring ways to show consumers ads on its TVs even when they are not using its streaming platform: The company has been looking into injecting ads into the video feeds of third-party devices connected to its TVs, according to a recent patent filing.

This way, when an owner of a Roku TV takes a short break from playing a game on their Xbox, or streaming something on an Apple TV device connected to the TV set, Roku would use that break to show ads. Roku engineers have even explored ways to figure out what the consumer is doing with their TV-connected device in order to display relevant advertising.

For those that don't already know this...

Use https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache: and then paste in the webpage or website you wish to look at.

If you are just looking for a search term, select Text-only Version and Ctrl-F your way to your info!

My reason for doing this: Sometimes I search for a term and when I get the webpage that has the info, it isn't there after clicking. Mostly because Google's preview is from an outdated version of the webpage. But the Google Webcache still has it and you can still reach it even tho Google doesn't give links to their cached pages anymore.

EDIT: You can also look at Twitter (I'll never call it 'X') without having an account. https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:https://twitter.com/MouinRabbani/

This works on desktop. Not sure about mobile. On desktop, the formatting is frelled up but you still see all the posts.

My phone is an Oppo, running Androids Color OS

I can't seem to find "metis" on the app list.

I fucking hate surveillance capitalism that downloads these things without my consent.

How the fuck do I get rid of this thing?

I said no, Metis, no means no. Stop asking. I don't even use screencast

Hello, World!" program

A "Hello, World!" program is generally a simple computer program which outputs (or displays) to the screen (often the console) a message similar to "Hello, World!" while ignoring any user input. A small piece of code in most general-purpose programming languages, this program is used to illustrate a language's basic syntax.

A "Hello, World!" program is often the first written by a student of a new programming language, but such a program can also be used as a sanity check to ensure that the computer software intended to compile or run source code is correctly installed, and that its operator understands how to use it.

https://foreignpolicy.com/2021/05/10/microwave-attacks-havana-syndrome-scientifically-implausible/

Here’s the problem. Aside from the reported syndromes, there’s no evidence that a microwave weapon exists—and all the available science suggests that any such weapon would be wildly impractical. It’s possible that the symptoms of all the sufferers of Havana syndrome share a single, as yet unknown, cause; it’s also possible that multiple real health problems have been amalgamated into a single syndrome.

It’s not the first time microwaves and embassies have mixed. From 1953 to 1976, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow was bathed in high-powered microwaves coming from a nearby building. The purpose seems to have been related to espionage—activating listening devices within the embassy or interfering with American transmissions. But a 1978 study concluded that there were no adverse health effects.

Typically, to independently power a microwave oven you would need a 2,200-watt gasoline-powered generator, which would weigh around 50 pounds and measure 11 by 18 by 20 inches. For a hypothetical microwave weapon, the microwave-generating part of the weapon might be another 10 pounds heavier than that and require a similar or larger volume. If batteries were used instead of a gasoline generator, something like 200 laptop computer batteries would be needed to power the weapon.

The range of such a weapon would depend on wavelength, whether the microwave frequencies are pulsed or continuous, and the waves’ collimation, along with the materials between the weapon and its target—a range that would have to be closer to tens of feet than hundreds. A gasoline-powered model could fit in a backpack carried by a strong person. Either a gas-powered or battery-powered model might fit in a van, and definitely in a building. But all of these would be difficult to use unnoticed, or to target individually

PodBean has gotten shitter and shitter, randomly stopping play when not on screen.

Google has just announced its taking Podcasts out behind the woodshed so you can pay them for YouTube Premium to watch video podcasts in the background in your pocket.

I just want something simple, free or a one off purchase, that is friendly to copying Patreon feed links etc.

Suggestions appreciated, although I still don't relish the idea of refollowing 50+ feeds again.

Enter xz, a modern compression utility for modern binaries. If gzip(1) is a Subaru Forester that "gets you where you need to go", xz is a lifted Ford F-250 that "just ran a stop and killed a cyclist".
