So I have been trying to find a browser that really fits my wants and needs... I love a lot of feature sets of Firefox even went as far as installing a custom CSS theme to make it not look like the default and loved the look. I just have issues with it chugging a bit on certain sites, that have a lot of client side javascript to run.

So I been looking at Vivaldi, and I have gone back to it but Vivaldi has these small things I find as tiny pain points like their forced tabs and doesn't like doing PWAs which is something I enjoy being able to make (which is another downside of Firefox as well not supporting this)...

Finally I LOVE and NEED something like the Firefox Container Tabs which make it so easy for me to be signed into multiple accounts at the same time without haveing to have multiple windows open. Like I have AWS console signed into my personal and my business accounts and switching between them and such, also my CDN provider etc... so I saw there are some "paid" solutions for this on chrome... I tried a couple of the "Free" ones that I could find on the Chrome App Store and just they don't all behave or break the site...

Feedback greatly appreciated

Preferably one that's popular enough to have more content than a cobweb

Not sure if this is the place for hardware repair stuff, but can't find a community for that, so... yeah.

Busted screw

It looks like the dremel slot is too wide for a screwdriver to catch on. (And also ow, marred the back panel. Not much we can do about that.)

Might try the rubber band thing? That's another trip to the store, but fortunately rubber bands are pretty cheap...

(the laptop works fine, we just want to upgrade the SSD)

Hello everyone,

I managed to make some minor changes to Lemmy's default CSS Theme and uploaded that as a new theme which I set as the default for my instance.

I'm looking forward to making much larger changes, but I wanted to share the process since it took me a while to understand and thought other admins might find it interesting.

  1. Download the theme you want to customize and its corresponding SCSS file.

In my case I just did darkly.css and _variables.darkly.scss

  1. Edit them You can override classes and properties of the default styles.css by adding them to that theme and giving them a higher priority with !important.

  2. Change the name of the files, for example "defaulttheme.css" and "_variables.defaulttheme.scss"

  3. Upload the files to your server to the lemmy install folder. It's probably something like "/srv/lemmy//volumes/lemmy-ui/extra-themes/"

  4. Enable the theme on your profile to make sure everything looks alright.

  5. As instance admin, go to main settings and set the new theme as the default for all users.

In my case what I did was simply removing the NSFW blur, which doesn't make much sense to have if you've already agreed to see NSFW content. Anyone who still wants to have the blur can switch back to any of the other themes.

I'm not skilled at CSS, but I'll try to make some more changes to customize the site's experience.

Anyways, I hope somebody will find this useful.

I can't begin to enunciate just how dangerous and irresponsible acts like this are. Normalizing AI image generation for political squabbling is only going to do further damage to our already crumbling democracy.

I've said that we live in a post truth society, and this is just another example. We are only beginning to experience the consequences of this.

Sync is has been the way I've experienced and used Reddit for a long while now, and it's such a shame that LJ has no choice but to axe the app for good. I know Reddit isn't gonna back down on the change, but damn it sucks we're losing so many great apps.

I hope some of the 3rd party app devs give Fediverse apps a go, it'd be nice to have more alternatives for anything Fedi.

Get popcorn, the sides are going to be off the charts with this one

To be honest I'm happy to see this was overturned because of how immensely useful this app is. I use it to put Kodi on my fireTVs all the time, and it would be so much less convenient without it!

Because what could be more nerdy than talking about FONTS!

Oh boy, it's another one. This is the big Android app. With Apollo and Reddit is Fun going, this probably displaces a huge amount of core redditors. Maybe this is the time to start going harder into getting people moved over to the Fediverse with Lemmy?

It's debatable if 5% is substantial but I find it interesting how they've changed the locations of each segment.

According to the new rules, on-stream logos are to be shrunk to 3% of the screen size, and burned-in video, display and audio ads are no longer allowed. What is allowed on branded streams are channel page panel ads, product placement, links in chat, discussing/unboxing products, and playing sponsored games.

Some of the planned blackouts will be temporary, others plan to shut their subreddits down indefinitely in protest.

Been playing around with old versions of win 9x this past month, and came across this find. Now growing up I only had windows boxes, but this is a fun find for any who wonders what Mac looked like in the past.

Came across this when I was trying to find a way to get Netscape Navigator.
