This is a small release that mainly add two things (1) a screen where you can view all of the uploaded media tied to an account and (2) it adds the concept of "templates".

Templates are similar to drafts, except they are meant to be reusable. Templates will most likely be useful for mods and admins.

For now, templates are only available for registration application rejections which are only for instance admins however there are plans to expand templates to mod actions as well in the future.

This release also fixes more bugs and adds some other minor features.

Full changelog

  • Add support for "Atkinson Hyperlegible™ Font" as a custom font option.
  • Add uploads screen. This is accessible from the You screen and will show you all of the media you've uploaded.
  • Add registration application rejection templates.
  • Tweaked some default settings. Changed shake to report feedback from On to Off. Changed Material You from Off to On.
  • Change the version item in About settings to copy the version code if long tapped.
  • Fix drop shadow on the old comment/post warning card.
  • Fix a bug where only the first line of a registration application is displayed.
  • Fix a bug where commenting when viewing a single comment chain causes weird behavior.
  • Fix a bug where an inbox message context is not shown because the comment thread is auto-collapsed due to downvote threshold being met.

[2025] Roadmap (lemmy.world)
submitted 6 months ago* (last edited 4 days ago) by idunnololz@lemmy.world to c/summit@lemmy.world

Will be tracking the roadmap by year going forwards.

Planned changes

  • Offline mode (view posts, comment, vote all offline with an offline engine that tracks everything and performs the actions once network is established).
  • Setup wizard.
  • Extremely out of date version check? (Eg. if the app version you are using is over x versions out of date)
  • Export tables as part of export settings. Currently there is a limitation for the import/export settings feature. It only supports settings which are represented as key-value pairs. However some settings are represented as lists and these are stored in tables in a db. This change will require the app to know how to import/export a table as well as possible showing this option to the user.
  • Revisit the "more options" menus. Some of them are getting too long.
  • Revisit how settings (specifically Settings search) is implemented

Specific user requests

  • Instead of showing a circle when votes are hidden, show nothing instead.
  • Take screenshot from post feed.
  • Add “I’m feeling lucky” button. Not sure where to add this. Maybe on the "Search" screen somewhere.
  • Allow users to choose to check unread counts for more than just the current account. Also surface the unread counts for other users somehow.
  • Add option to navigate by side bar (like the OG apps from material 1)
  • Add setting to show bottom bar on post screen
  • Add custom layout setting for inbox screen. Specifically to support a "full" layout.
  • Add some way to indicate a community is one you are subscribed to everywhere in the app. Eg. When searching for a community in the community selector, in the suggestions window when drafting a post/comment or in the seaech community screen in multicommunity or filter by community in search.
  • add option to import communities from Reddit
  • add setting to separate recent communities, bookmarks and history by account.
  • add setting to set a max height (by px) for full content layouts.
  • several users have brought up the "hide read" filter option. Will need to revisit the best way to do this again.
  • update Summit's website to state it's open source.
  • allow admin/mods to comment in locked posts.
  • comment headers are still cutting off for super long instance names or user names.
  • add a setting to match web for marking inbox items as read. Eg. only mark inbox item as read if reply or if check mark is pressed.
  • see if there is a way to check which comments were made since the last time you viewed a post and to highlight them somehow (apparently boost does this?). If this isn't possible, add an option to highlight new posts (maybe with an adjustable time range). 15m seems like a good amount of time.
  • Set the ‘hide read posts’ option as default on. So when I load the feed I don’t have to hit ellipses then hide read posts again. Make it persist even if I change sorting mode.
  • each post in the feed should have a ‘mark as read’ button I can tap easily, when hit post auto hides.
  • a button that scrolls down kind of like the scroll to next comment thread functionality, with the up and down buttons, BUT it scrolls the main feed screen by a page at a time.
  • maybe surface search within community in more places?
  • https://lemmy.world/post/29147076/16965825
  • add url domain to compact layout (like web)
  • add FAB quick action to refresh the post feed.
  • add setting to download file to folder based on community: https://lemmy.world/comment/17081662
  • https://lemmy.world/comment/16965825
  • think about how to support sharing as a ULR and as a "mention".
  • share image URL via unproxied link. Details: https://lemmy.world/post/29634477
  • add search options to search by special feeds such as subscribed, local, or moderator view.
  • Inline embeds similar to Discord/Slack - https://lemmy.world/post/30227433
  • Sports Mode. It’s a toggle for viewing comments in a post that automatically refreshes every 15 seconds, which is really great for participating in live threads.
  • Add some way to search from within a community (auto-filter by community).
  • Add setting to disable recents in community selector.
  • Add a way to sort communities by number of times visited on the device: https://lemmy.world/comment/17413948
  • Fix "All subscribed" feed bugs. Eg. https://lemmy.world/post/27333742/17419576

  • Add a setting to adjust the maximum height (or maybe width?) of an embedded image (eg. an image within a comment).
  • Add setting to the rich text editor toolbar to display a label for each action.
  • Hide Downvote Button on Instances with Downvoting Disabled
  • Add option to hide actions in the rich text editor toolbar.
  • Add setting to optionally use a GIF's metadata to determine whether to loop or not instead of auto-looping.
  • Add option to change the color of the badges on the bottom bar so that different colors indicate different things. https://lemmy.world/post/32520561
  • Add option to set default language id. https://lemmy.world/post/32603224
  • Add support for deleting communities & transfering communities in app. https://lemmy.world/post/32893291
  • https://lemmy.world/post/33177509
  • Add setting to choose between different strategies of adding a "cross-post" disclaimer. Options are: Never, Always, and Only if url is blank.
  • Add support for templates for more mod actions.
  • Add a setting to hide the "Mark all as read" FAB on the inbox screen, some alternative options are to allow users to change what the FAB does or add a warning to the button when pressed.
  • Add support for grouping multiple cross-posts together (like piefed web).

Stretch features (nice to have but I need to do more research)

  • Possible integration with mastodon/? (needs research)

Bugs (lemmy.world)
submitted 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) by idunnololz@lemmy.world to c/summit@lemmy.world

Self reminder to look into the following:

  • wording issue in sign up message
  • editing a comment shows the old comment still
  • if hide read toggle is on, refreshing will not show a snackbar with the number of hidden posts
6

This message seems to pop up constantly for me. Other apps and web still work even when this message persists in summit.

tl;dr If you want to skip the wall of text, please just tell me in the comments whether you want to keep the existing functionality of the Hide read action or if you prefer to change it to a toggle or something else entirely.

The Hide read action in the app hides all read posts. Behind the scenes, it also "flips a switch" so that any read posts loaded into the feed are filtered and hidden as well.

It makes the action sort of weird because it is both an action and a toggle built into the same button.

The purpose of the button is it guarantees that the user will only see posts they have not seen before. It's an extremely valuable feature and one that I use in almost every session.

Historically, the action works like this because back when the feature was first added, I asked the community for feedback about what the button should so and this is what we decided on.

In the past year or so, I have gotten more feedback about the button with many users asking if we can change the button to a toggle or something else.

So I decided to survey the users again to see if we can get to a common ground. If we cannot agree on one behavior I can also add a setting.

There are two options that I think would make the most sense:

  1. Keep the existing behavior and make no changes to Hide read.
  2. Turn Hide read into a toggle (eg. a switch).

To highlight the difference in behavior between option (1) and (2), with option (1) after you tap Hide read, if you refresh the feed, the app will revert back to showing everything. With option (2), after you flip the switch, your feed will refresh but will continue to only show unread posts.

Of course if you want to propose a completely different behavior from the 2, feel free to do so as well.

Tried to mark a comment as important and got this error.

10

Add ability to copy multiple community from piefed topic list and add them when creating or updating multi community.

11

Version 1.67.4, code 276 (it would be nice if press-holding this in the settings would copy this info to the clipboard, by the way)

  1. See this comment
  2. Reply to it
  3. My comment appears with the rest of the top-level comments with no color banner spanning the left side, and not directly under the target comment
  4. Retry steps 2-3, twice, with no change
  5. Delete comments and finally refresh the whole thing and then see them get reorganized and receive color banners

Wut. This has never happened before.

Hi, I love the fact I can resolve reports and do [most] of my admin stuff from summit, but applications are impossible to do even is they're implemented.

The two problems are that I can't see the full text, and there's no rejection template (look at how tesseract does it for example)

Thank you!

Do you think you could add this?

Currently there's only the browser and no way to add additional default apps such as YouTube.

The community got the required number of votes to force me to add PieFed support which is what this release will be focused on.

This has the potential to be a huge change. At the time of writing, I'm still doing exploration work so I'm not sure how long it will take. It could take a couple of days or a couple of weeks depending on what I find.

In the meantime, I did fix some bugs.

Changelog so far

  • Fix a bug where when you open a post, the spinner will appear to stutter for a moment.
  • Fix a bug where pulling to refresh on the post screen will cause all comments to refresh even if they have not changed.
  • Fix a bug where inline images will sometimes not load until the screen is refreshed.
  • Fix a bug where "Prev" button doesn't load the page if pressed on page 2 when Infinity mode is off.
  • Add support for PieFed.

Update

Wrapping up PieFed support. Current release ETA is tomorrow (July 15th, evening). The main known bug at the moment (that I will not address) is that certain fields on PieFed use HTML instead of Markdown. The fix isn't hard, it just requires the app to include some dependencies that will increase the app size. Once PieFed is more stable, I'll add support for HTML then but for the time being I will hold off on HTML support.

22

I'm not sure how feasible this would be technically, but I wanted to suggest a feature that could be really useful for community creators and moderators on Lemmy.

Would it be possible to add the ability for a user to transfer ownership (Head Mod role) of a Lemmy community directly within the Summit app, without needing to go to the Community Instance website?

Summit already lets users manage many aspects of their communities—such as editing the:

display name,

icon,

banner,

description,

NSFW/moderator-only settings,

and even deleting the community

—all in-app.

It would be incredibly helpful if ownership transfers could be handled the same way.

This feature could be especially useful for users who are overwhelmed, stepping back from moderating, or consolidating their mod duties across multiple instances—particularly those who primarily use the app and rarely access Lemmy via a browser.

23

I'm not sure how achievable or realistic this is, but I was wondering if Summit has ever considered potentially adding a visual indicator for Head Mods of Lemmy communities?

For example:

A small "H" or "HM" (for Head Mod) next to their username in their own community

A symbol, perhaps something similar to Reddit's Shield Icon for Redd Mods

A different name color, similar to how Lemmy Admins have red usernames—something to visually distinguish them from regular green mods

This would make it easier for users (and even other moderators) to identify who the Head Mod is, especially in communities with several regular moderators.

24

Some posts in communities I follow are quite long. I don't mind their presence, but they are not always relevant to me and result in unnecessary scrolling to pass essay-length posts.

An option to automatically collapse posts longer than, say, 10 lines would be a nice bonus feature to have.

Anyone else agree?

25

In non-infinite scroll mode, press Next to go to page 2, then use the system button/gesture or press the Prev button. The UI says you're now on page 1 but it still shows the posts from page 2 until you refresh. Strangely going from page 3 to 2 works fine.

Occurring in 1.66.5 and there previous release too (though not before).
