Hi everyone, I'm really grateful for this community but I wanted to see more content here so I thought I'd try to keep the ball rolling myself.

My intention here isn't to reveal some obscure hidden gems but to share my experiences with games from my library that I enjoy specifically on the Steam Deck. If people like this kind of content I plan to share more games over time and hopefully inspire others to do the same!

Today's focus is the game GRIS. You can find it on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/683320/GRIS/

  • Steam Deck Verified ✅
  • ProtonDB rating: Gold
  • How Long To Beat (Main Story): 3.5 hours
  • Biggest Steam sale discount (3 months): -75%
  • Size on disk: 3.25GB
  • Battery drain after 30 mins (max brightness, WiFi off, 60fps): 8%
  • Single Player
  • Full controller support

This game is a beautiful, tranquil puzzle platformer. Every frame of the game feels like artwork and even in handheld mode the game looks stunning. I will say that on the Deck's screen size, it can be a little bit hard to see the character at times and the game really thrives when hooked up to a bigger screen.

Gameplay is slow paced with a focus on exploration and puzzle solving so it may not be to everyone's liking but it's worth checking out if you are looking for a more relaxed experience and enjoy the art style!

Second hand deck? (lemmy.fmhy.ml)

Hi all, just purchased a pretty much brand-new deck (used for 2hrs) from eBay. I've also got the receipt. Is there anything I should be aware of? It was only purchased last month, will valve honour any warranty?

Edit. Turned up yesterday and it's immaculate so all good so far! Doesn't even look used so I'll count this as a good buy for now!

Not 3.5 yet, but plenty of bugfixes

It has been a while since I've played it, I'm downloading it again now on my Deck, I was wondering if anyone else saw this and could tell me how it runs? Is it playable?

Have any of you switched to windows? Just curious how it went and if it's preferred over the og os

Would love to hear peoples experiences with any of the demos out for this Next Fest.

A standout for me is Sea of Stars, and it seems the demo runs perfectly so far!

Let's collect some recommendations here for others to join in

Not mine. Just loving these see thru shells!

I remember reading on Reddit that folks were experiencing oddities with their battery life. I've been fighting with my battery, though I don't think it's a bad battery it's more that the software thinks the battery is dead and shutting down the system.

Does anyone remember how to reset the battery?

Something like letting it fully charge, then fully draining it in one session, then fully charging and draining, a few cycles and it's better or something?

Anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, etc?

Lately, I've been using my Steam Deck docked with a keyboard and mouse, but I can't find any keyboard shortcuts that work for bringing up the Steam menu and QAM. I've read that Ctrl + 1 and Ctrl + 2 can do this, but apparently doesn't work in-game...

AMD: The Future Is Fusion (www.youtube.com)
submitted 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) by Hyperslob@lemmy.world to c/steamdeck@sopuli.xyz

A long time ago AMD marketed an idea of a CPU and GPU in one package. It wasn't long before the idea was mocked as a non starter. Yet with the advent of recent consoles and now portable PC consoles, I find it fitting that AMD were indeed right, and The Future is indeed Fusion.

I was thinking this marketing video would be a cool Steam Deck boot video!

Edit: removed date as not sure if it's accurate.

I notice the fan going pretty hard all the way through my gaming sessions. I'm curious if the Steam deck will warn me before I do damage to the machine?

Heyo, does anybody play Street Fighter 6 on the deck in here? I'm having trouble with really heaving freezes that last roughly 1-2 seconds every few minutes that won't go away when I turn down graphic settings.

It happens during arcadeode offline as well as in menus and cutscenes. The deck just stops doing anything for a short period of time the everything goes back to normal. Performance in genera would be absolutely okay so I don't know what this could be.

I don't claim to have discovered this, all credit to this Github post

As a workaround (I assume Cemu/Yuzu is run in gaming mode from Steam):

Press STEAM button Open Controller Settings Edit layout Go to Gyro Select Gyro Behavior -> Directional Pad Choose anything for one of the positions of directional pad. Anything that won't intefere with using Cemu/Yuzu. I chose Action Sets->Cleared from Parent Now it should work.

That was enough to get Cemu working again. For Yuzu I had to remap the motion sensor. Best way to do that is to follow this video

You can open desktop mode inside of gamemode, just like any other game or application. I find it easier to use most desktop apps this way instead of adding them individually to steam.

To do this, download this script. Save it as a script and make the script executable. Finally right click the file and "add to steam".

Some important notes with this: You can't exit steam while running the desktop this way, so apps that require closing steam (like steam rom manager) won't work. There are also a few apps that do weird things, like cryoutilities shows up super tiny this way. But generally most everything works.

There are a lot of great decky plugins, but which one specifically is the most important to you?

Thought this was cool and worth sharing

This is probably old news to most people but I'm posting here in case it helps anyone else! Turns out there's a power management setting you can disable that really improved the wireless reliability for me.

You first have to enable Developer Mode in Settings > System. Then you should see a new menu right at the bottom of the settings list called Developer. Under Miscellaneous you should see the option Enable Wifi Power Management.

Turning this off completely solved the problems I was having with Wifi being either really slow or dropping out completely to the point where it was almost unusable.

kindly cross-posted from: https://lemmy.fmhy.ml/post/112584

Since the subreddit got killed, I'll post the settings I'm currently using. I'm getting a mostly-ok 30fps, with dips down to 20. Definitely playable. Shrines can spike to 50-60 fps, which is nice. If anyone has tweaks to improve performance I'd love to hear it.

  • On your Steam Deck, go to desktop mode. Click the Steam button, go down to Power, and then Switch to Desktop. Wait for your Deck to reboot.
  • Next, open up the browser of your choice, go to the Blizzard download page (or just search for it on Google), and download the Windows installer.
  • Next, we need to add the downloaded .exe file to Steam. Open up desktop Steam, go to Library, and at the bottom left corner, click on the plus sign, then Add a Non-Steam Game.... Navigate to your downloads folder by clicking on Browse, and then go to home/deck/Downloads and add the Battle.net installer file to Steam. Don't forget to show All Files under File type: if you can't find the installer.
  • Now, navigate to the newly added entry in your Steam Library. It should be called something along the lines of Battle.net-Setup.exe. Don't launch it yet, but instead click on the cog wheel icon, then Properties... and under Compatibility, toggle the Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool option. During the beta, it was important to choose GE-Proton 7.51 or Proton Experimental. Follow our guide here to learn how to install GE-Proton. But it seems, it now works without pre-selecting a compatibility layer.
  • Now hit Play to launch the installer, follow the different steps, and wait until it's done. When the installation process is done, you can remove the Battle.net-Setup.exe from Steam again. Right-click it, go to Manage, then Remove non-Steam game from your library.
  • Next, we want to add the installed launcher to Steam. In Desktop Steam,  go to Library, and at the bottom left corner, click on the plus sign, then Add a Non-Steam Game.... Now we need to look for the file. Click on Browse and navigate to the following folder by going through the folder structure: home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/.  Don't forget to show All Files under File type: if you can't find the installer.
  • Here you need to search for the latest added folder under DATE MODIFIED. It should be a 10-character long number. Open it, and go to the following folder: pfx/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Battle.net. Here select the Battle.net Launcher.exe file. Add this one to Steam. If you can't see it, be sure you have All Files selected under File type:.
  • Don't launch it yet, but instead click on the cog wheel icon, then Properties... and under Compatibility, toggle the Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool option, like we did in step four.
  • Phew! We're finally done. Launch Battle.net now. If you want to customize the artwork, I propose you check out the following guide, but don't forget to rename the non-Steam game we've added.
