So I've got the EA App installed on my Steam Deck via the Non Steam Launchers program. Everything was working great, but now the app wants to update and says it needs to restart. I let it do it's thing, it says it's downloading and applying the update and then it shuts down. When I open it again, it still says it needs to restart.

Does anyone know how to update the EA App when you have it installed this way? I've found posts online about how to update it when you have it installed directly, but since I didn't do that those methods don't seem to work.

Does anyone here have tested thermals with the JSAUX backplate V2? Are they better than the previous one?

Sorry if this has already been asked. I tried to do a search, but it's a bit harder to figure out how to focus the search on Lemmy. Anyway, I want to buy one of these shells as a present for my wife, but I want to make sure they're worth it. Does anyone have any personal experience with them? I haven't been able to find much in the way of reviews on them so far. Thanks!

I just bought Firewatch, always wanted to play it and the sale price was really good. It's also rated as confirmed on steamdeck, but it won't launch for me. Does it work for others? Any idea of what I can do, or support I can get for it? Or should I just request a refund and be sad?

I'll be travelling soon and was wondering what are good games for low power-usage and offline?

Previously I enjoyed:

  • Into The Breach
  • Baba Is You
  • Vampire Survivors
  • Super Mario All-Stars (SNES)

At the moment I'm planning to set up:

  • Lufia 2 (SNES)
  • Shadowrun (SNES + Genesis versions)
  • Golden Sun (GBA)
  • A Link To The Past (SNES)
  • Minish Cap (GBA)
  • A Link Between Worlds (NDS) - never played it, hopefully the controls map well!
  • Fire Emblem: Awakening (NDS) - same as above, never had a NDS
  • Oracle Of Ages (GBA)
  • Chrono Trigger (SNES)
  • Ogre Battle 64 (N64) - not sure how bad the power usage is on the N64 emulators

Maybe the Ace Attorney and Professor Layton series too which I haven't played. Also GTA1, London and 2 if they work. I love Advance Wars too but I've played it too many times already.

Basically anything that is easy to run, low power, and easy to play with just the controls and small screen in a cramped space. Ideally nothing too difficult / stressful like Hollow Knight that could be hard to play without good screen brightness or cramped.

I like a lot of older PC games but unfortunately they're difficult to play without a mouse and on the small screen - e.g. Ultima VII and Arx Fatalis.

I have a dock and was trying to play dota 2 but the virtual keyboard likes to help by popping up randomly and hikacking my cursor for more fun.

I kinda got it to stop doing it by launching the game from desktop mode but i think it's still trying because i get a micro stutter when i close a keyed thing, like type some chat and press enter for example. It's playable but mildly annoying.

Anyone know a way to disable the virtual keyboard? My searching only pulls up posts from about a year ago with negative responses.

If you're waiting for a steam deck to be available i have good news. The problem was that they used all of the locktite in the world on one of the screws on my steamdeck which made changing the ssd a PITA on mine, i ended up destroying that screw. I'm sure they'll get more locktite abd begin shipping to you soon. I use arch btw.

Curious if anyone has tried to get Steel Battalion running on deck? I feel like there might be enough Deck inputs to map to the hardware controller input... Would be pretty cool to get it running!

Has anyone tried this? How good does it work? Any problems in day to day usage?

If you enjoy rhythm games, Melatonin is worth looking into. It’s like Rhythm Heaven but with a lo-fi, mellow feel. What makes me want to recommend it here specifically is that the game has a custom display setting calibrated for the Steam Deck’s screen which I thought was really cool!

The game itself isn’t that long and can be beaten in a couple of hours but there are of course harder difficulties and perfect scores to aim for which add some replay value. I personally really enjoy the soundtrack which helps too since it does feel a bit too short otherwise.

If you enjoy the aesthetic, but struggle with rhythm, the game also has accessibility modes that help you to get better with the timing instead of just skipping the level entirely.

If say I bought the cheapest variant, could the same type of SSD upgrades fit in it, just as they would the mid and higher tier steamdecks?

So I’m trying to find a dock for my steam deck, anyone have recommendation ?

Given many new handhelds coming on the scene and general disinterest of Microsoft to support the market, do you think SteamOS will take place of default OS the same way Android did on phones some time ago?

I've been instructed by Valve to re-image my deck (in regards to my fans running while idling issue).

Does anyone know where custom controller layouts are stored?

I can reinstall most things, but I have a number of custom layouts that I'd like to keep without having to reconfigure them all.

Hey guys, I recently set up my Steam Deck, and wanted to use Discord like I would on a PC. I followed the usual guides to get it set up.

What I noticed is that when I had a game open, all my inputs would still go to the game - I couldn't interact with the Discord window, and my push-to-talk/push-to-mute keybinds wouldn't go to Discord while in game.

How I fixed this (at least in one game - Battlebit Remastered), was to edit the game's video settings to Fullscreen Windowed instead of Fullscreen. Edit: Worked for Splitgate too

This let me interact with Discord while the game had focus.

Maybe this will help you and with other games.

I wondered if anyone had any experience with a controller that they used while docked? If the 20-30 8bitdo is as good as a one of the premium controllers, id prefer to save some money, since I don't own a console. If thought I'd ask the community, to see if anyone had any experience to share!

I recently came across this interesting mod that gives you an AI companion in Skyrim that you can actually speak to. Check out this video for a demo: https://youtu.be/AQq8M88s3BU

Does anyone know if it would be possible to install this AI Skyrim mod on the deck? Obviously these instructions are directed at a Windows install and I’m guessing especially with the mod needing to utilize other resources outside of the contained folder that proton creates for its emulation that it wouldn’t be but I’m just curious.

I’m lucky because I have a girlfriend who wants to buy me a steamdeck. I have a gaming PC already but I am away for a while due to grad studies. I’m worried that we buy one then a new version comes out in a few months. Should I buy one later this year?

I’m looking to pick up South Park for my Deck.

How problematic is the Ubisoft launcher? I’m sure I read before that it can lock you out of games, more so when there are updates.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Were there workarounds?

Freelancer is the precursor to Star Citizen, a fantastic entry in Chris Roberts' collection. It runs great on Deck, and is an awesome classic space simulator, if you're looking for one!
