My question is mostly for games available on Steam that you would still prefer to play on Switch. I imagine performance should be better on the deck for native/proton games, but there might be something else I am missing.

Hey Steam Deckers, I didn't know there was a bigger Steam Deck community. So I'm sharing my post from the other one: https://lemmy.world/post/2888070

Demo: https://youtu.be/0vzsUnbOR9c

Want to gain more control using an extension riser such as KontrolFreeks and still keep capaictive touch for gyro aiming and more?

I got a solution for you! I bought this 3d printed clip-on meant for XBOX Series/One. It's a little loose on the Steam Deck's joystick; however, that leaves room to put into conductive material to activate the capacitive touch.

I used Greg's LiveZone | Superior Thumbstick Upgrade - Clips on from his Etsy store. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1362835549/livezone-superior-thumbstick-upgrade

At first, I tried it out with aluminum foil and that works. But, it tears easy and is quite slippery.

I bought and used a conductive fabric tape from US Amazon: GENNEL 5mm x 20M (0.2in x 65ft) Conductive Cloth Fabric Adhesive Tape, Faraday Tape for EMI Shielding, Interference Signal Blocking, Laptop Mobilephone LCD Repair, Cable Wire Harness Wrapping

https://www.amazon.com/Conductive-Fabric-Adhesive-Laptop-Shielding/dp/B01ALDR0D0

And there you go! More control during aiming and you can still activate gyro.

I hope this helps people

I recently posted a tutorial to pirate on steamdeck which was removed.

Hello everyone.

I bought a Steam Deck for my sister and set up her account and mine on the device. Family Sharing works fine until the Deck is rebooted, where only her games appear on her account. These are the steps we have followed:

  1. Sign in both accounts to the Deck
  2. Enable family sharing on both accounts, making sure our accounts and this specific Deck are authorized

I didn't sign out my account afterwards or anything like that. My games will appear on her library until the Deck is shut down or rebooted. The next boot my games won't appear on her list and those that are installed will show a Buy button instead of play.

We found a workaround which is to sign in with my account, disable and enable family sharing again, but this is not really a solution.

Has anything like this happened to anyone? Is there anything we are missing?

Thanks in advance!

I was wondering if anyone has tried upgrading the textures on Skyrim? Is it possible to do this without affecting the performance too much on Steam Deck?

I actually haven't played the game since the original release, so if it's possible to run it now with extra enhancements that would be a great incentive for me to get back into it.

What mods would you recommend, and how hard is it to get them running?

Hello y'all, I'm at my wits end. I got the GoG version of BG3 (cause DRM free yay!), but for the love of me I cannot get it to work. I've done so much googling and so many workarounds, I've installed .net, I've skipped the launcher, I've used the alternate .exe, I've tried proton experimental and 8 and hotfix, but nothing has got me even as far as a loading screen. I just get a flash of black then crashed back to desktop. If anyone has any insights or help I would greatly appreciate it, I'm using Heroic right now but honestly I'll do whatever to get this thing working.

Hey Steam Deck community. I’m hoping that I can get some help from the community.

  1. Is it possible to unlock my Windows PC remotely? I currently run Home Assistant, and have WOL setup so I can easily wake it, but without logging in, I can’t stream to my Steam Deck. Is there any way around that? I am not willing to remove the login password from my PC. This is the main thing I want to solve.

  2. Should stream via Steam or is there a better option? Moonlight?

  3. When you stop streaming from the deck, what happens to the game on the PC? Does it stop running?

Thanks in advance!

Just got my steam deck and I found that the joysticks are very stiff so I decided to use left track pad for movement。 But I couldn't find a comfortable hold of the thing if I tried to access the middle of the pad.

But if I somehow able to put off to the top right then maybe it might work. Can i do that?

There is an off-center option but it seems to Just help preventing accidental touches. I don't need that, I still want it to move as soon as I touch the pad.

Hey, I recently upgraded my monitor to the AW3423DW, and now Moonlight streaming streams in 21:9 and the HDR makes the colors blown out. Does anyone know a way to change the resolution and hdr settings when streaming? I messed around in QRes for a bit, but couldn’t get it to work. Thanks for any help!

And a SSD I guess.

Alternative question: Do you want steam to offer a console only version? Same motherboard, just no screen or battery.

I'm not talking high, I'm not talking vibing, I mean absolutely covered in cookie crumbs baked.

Sometimes, it's nice to come home from an awful day at work, smoke a toke, and forget about problems for a minute.

I usually would just continue playing whatever game I'm actively into at the moment. But when you're sitting there covered in cookie crumbs, maybe trying to figure out how to play Boulder Gate 3 might be too tedious for the moment.

Vampire Survivors is what I typically play, but sometimes it's nice to have more than one option.

It causes a bunch of weird controller errors, such as when a controller disconnects (or if the deck goes to sleep), it can't reconnect again.

Just let it use the default version (which I believe should be Proton Hotfix, or whatever Valve decides it should be since BG3 is an AAA headliner, they'll want this to work)

I spent way too much time troubleshooting BG3 on my Steam Deck because it would not start, and when it finally did it had no sound.

The fix at least for me was quite simple, and someone mentioned it on a reddit post lost in the middle on nowhere.

Fix: Uninstall Decky's PowerTools.

After I removed it, the game just simply worked.

TL;DR: Steam briefly showed options to buy refurbished Steam Decks for the following prices:

  • 64gb - $319
  • 256gb - $419
  • 512gb - $519

The steam page has since been taken down, but will hopefully go live officially soon.

Edit: That was quick, refurbished units available now.

Any major issues?

I’m using medium settings with a few (clouds, fog) low ones. FSR is off for now, I did test it briefly on Ultra Quality and did not really notice any blurrong )though it was a brief test) The FPS I’m getting is mostly above 30 but varies a lot inbetween 25-40 (40 is my refresh rate cap).

The controls are easy to get used to and cover all the functions well. Only 4 hours into the game but really enjoying it so far.

How’s everyone finding the performance to be like after the inital few hours?

Edit: This isn't about this specific game in particular! The point is that install folders are just disappearing when they shouldn't.

I have just installed a non-steam game right after a fresh re-image of SteamOS. Genshin Impact is the game in question. At first I added the installer .exe to Steam as a non-steam game and successfully installed it. The next step would be to add the launcher .exe as a non-steam game. But I couldn't find it in the 'Steam/steamapps/compatdata/[random numbers]/pfx/drive_c/Progam Files (x86)' folder like expected and just installed it again without thinking twice about it. This time I could find the launcher.exe and added it as a non-steam game.

Now I could launch the launcher.exe through Steam and installed Genshin Impact from there and chose the C:/Program Files (x86) as the install location (from a weird Windows looking directory chooser). The game downloads and installs successfully and I close the launcher. Now the next step of the guide I'm following tells me to switch back to Gaming Mode and launch the game. I do that and it immediately closes again. I go back into Desktop Mode to see what's up. Maybe it just can't launch in Gaming Mode, but in Desktop Mode it behaves the same and closes immediately. To investigate I navigate to the installation folder again and see that the launcher installation has completely disappeared but the game itself is still installed and after adding the GenshinImpact.exe as a non-steam game I'm able to launch the game without problems.

But my question is now, how do I prevent this from happening? Why does a folder just disappear? Again I'm on a freshly re-imaged SteamOS and this is the first thing I've done before setting anything else up.

Any help is much appreciated!

Notes: This is the guide I was following to install the game

As a side note: In the video the guy is just right clicking and selecting 'Add to Steam' in Desktop Mode when I do that it just opens the dialogue window to choose the file I want to add to Steam instead of adding it directly. Is this a setting or something?

It gets even weirder: Just now I wanted to rename the as a non-steam game added 'GenshinImpact.exe' and upon clicking into the text field all input fields on that interface just cleared. Of course I wanted to add the target again and what do I see? Nothing. The game just disappeared. What the hell is going on?

I used Ubuntu briefly years ago but never really dove into the world of Linux. Are there any useful or fun programs for Linux that work well in desktop mode on the deck? Thanks

I have run into an unusual problem. I left my deck to download BG3 while I was at work and when I returned it had crashed. After rebooting it, I started getting crashes when trying to uninstall a game to make more room for BG3. After two crashes it refused to even boot into bios. I tried resetting bios by unplugging the battery and pressing the power button a few times to discharge it then replugging the battery and booting into Bios, but now it won't even recognize my boot device and none of the controls are responsive. This is really weird to me because I have been playing plenty of games with my undervolt active and it seemed pretty stable. Has anyone else run into this?
