I used to be a console gamer. Bo2 on the Xbox 360 was my favorite game of all time. I moved to csgo, once I got a pc.

My gripe with fps games on the deck is it doesn’t feel like a console fps, it feels like a pc game. I obviously understand why but I wish I could think of a way to change that. The controls just feel awful to me

Probably the easiest way to run it is with Vinegar, a Wine wrapper for Roblox. You can just install it from Flathub (or Discover on Steam Deck in Desktop Mode), make a configuration file in terminal to set it to Vulkan and then you're good to go after that:

mkdir -p ~/.var/app/io.github.vinegarhq.Vinegar/config/vinegar/ && { echo "[player]"; echo "dxvk = false"; echo "renderer = \"Vulkan\""; } >> ~/.var/app/io.github.vinegarhq.Vinegar/config/vinegar/config.toml

I know there's a launcher called Grapejuice that's very popular for running the game as well, but I don't know if there are any additional steps needed to get it to work.

Hello everyone!

Today I bought a mouse and keyboard for the couch to play some games which are not made for controllers. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to access the Steam menu once I am in-game. The desktop overlay combination does not seem to work (shift + tab) and I don't know what else to try as I don't have anything resembling the PlayStation or Xbox buttons like on my controllers.

Desktop mode itself is unfortunately unusable as Steam ignores the scaling configuration and text is unreadable small on the TV. I just bring this up, because I suspect the overlay combination would work here.

Does anyone know what keys to press in normal big picture esque mode to open any of the Steam menus while in-game?

Thank you!

EA anticheat is a kernel level anticheat, which are generally bad for consumers due to them giving malware new targets to get full control of an infected system. Genshin Impact's kernel anticheat is famously targeted by ransomware as an easier way to gain control of user's PCs for example. They also don't work on Linux, which is an obvious problem for Steam Deck users.

I'm using Emudeck's installation. I've tried wux files, extracted file-folders, and going directly to the xml files and nothing picks up. I tried running wux files directly via load and games don't start. Native and proton. I refresh and nothing. Is something up or am I missing some easy detail?

All of my roms have been moved over from my main server over samba. Should I be expecting some sort of corruption? It's never been an issue before on my desktop so I know the roms work. Can anyone show some screenshots of their rom folder, or detail what they had to do?

For those who don't know, Luxtorpeda is a compatibility tool that can take the place of proton for supported games. Proton works by letting windows games run on Linux, but Luxtorpeda instead works by downloading replacement linux engines for the games and running them through that instead.

For example, the game Morrowind has an excellent engine replacement called openMW that works natively on Linux. You can download Morrowind on steam, set the compatibility tool to be Luxtorpeda, and when you first launch the game it will download and install openMW. After that it will run the game through openMW with all the benefits that brings.

It's especially nice on platforms like steam deck because it can make it easy to get these alternative engines setup without having to do it manually.

Luxtorpeda can be downloaded directly, but the easiest way to install it is through tools like ProtonUp-Qt that let you manage and install different proton versions.

Here's a list of supported games

edit: I accidentally linked the list of supported games for the in-development version, which is much shorter than the full list for the stable version. It's fixed now, sorry for any confusion.

I like setting up my SteamDeck docked on my big TV. Newer games look rough at 720p, but playing older/indies at 1920x1080 + 4 controllers is a great experience.

Let's say I want the option to boot into a frontend that makes it easy browsing a local collection of shows/movies on a USB. What are my options? So far Kodi seems to do exactly that, but I've heard of Jellyfin/etc.

RetroDECK 0.7.2b - Released!

The update will be available in a couple of hours

Updates:

The following features have been updated

  • All standalone emulators
  • EmulationStation Desktop Edition (ES-DE)
  • RetroArch and cores
  • The included ES-DE themes

Bugfixes & other changes:

  • Added helper .txt files to the mod & texture pack folders.
  • The builtin changelog is now scrollable.
  • The loading bar color is after much debate once again red.
  • Gameboy Advanced & Game Gear integer scaling changes based on feedback.
  • Optimized and retooled the patching process for ES-DE.
  • Various fixes and optimizations to the RetroDECK build process.

Known issues

  • PPSSPP: Retroachievements is in the latest version, you can login / logout / enable hardcore mode normally from the emulators interface. It is right now not configurable in the Configurator (as it works a bit different the other emulators), we hope to have a solution for it at a later date.
  • RetroArch: Quitting the Gambatte core with the Quit radial function makes the core swap the palette while playing GB.
  • RetroArch: Borders are in some cases disappearing in the latest RetroArch version. A possible workaround is to reset RetroArch from the Configurator.

This just seems odd to me. I know it’s a competitive game, and most folks will be playing with a mouse and keyboard, but it feels weird for Valve to put out a brand new game (built from scratch, at that) and not plan for this.

I'm just thinking out loud here.

Steam Deck 2 is a long way away, and I think that's great. Giving developers a specific hardware target is crucial, and having consumers feel like they need to immediately upgrade is bad.

However, I think there is room for an advanced SD that's not necessarily "new" but just an external improvement over the existing model at a higher price tier for those looking for a premium experience.

Also I'm going to be nitpicking here, don't take that the wrong way, I love the SD but it does have some weak points.

So then Steam Deck LE would be identical to the current one with the exception of:

  • The screen. Wow this is probably the greatest weakness of the SD. A larger display with smaller bezels and better color accuracy would go a long way to improving the experience.

  • Hall Effect joysticks. Again, nitpicking here but it'd be nice to see a premium version with these included.

  • 1TB SSD. I originally bought the 64GB version thinking I would just use an SD card no problem. But the ridiculous amount of shader cache, the various Proton versions (~1GB each) and some other software like EmuDeck and Heroic, as well as the annoyance of moving things back and forth had me upgrading quickly to a 1TB, which immediately ended all of those concerns.

  • Different color ways. I'm partial to white but a transparent purple version would be nice to see also.

  • At least 1 more USB-C port... so we can do things like video out while charging.

What else would you like to see added?

Automobilista 2 is 'great on deck's but I can't even get it to open. The steam loading thing appears then takes me right back to menu. If you have a fix please let me know. I'm updated to stable. And tried restarting.

Dead space (2008) wasn't working either for the last week, but now suddenly does? What changed? Is steam OS that fragile that games should be going in and out of playable on stable?

SteamOS 3.6 is live on the "main" update channel, and it is very buggy. (Note: the most bleeding edge update channel is called main. 3.6 is only live on the "main" channel, not any of the stable or beta channels).

I had switched to main to get 3.5 early, and 3.5 had spent so much time in the main channel that it's been very stable for the last few months. However 3.6 has been rough, game mode would crash and restart everytime a decky plugin did something, and it broke my desktop mode completely. I've downgraded to beta-candidate (which is still 3.5) and things are much better.

I know that staying off the most bleeding edge update channels if you want a stable experience is common sense, but I think a lot of people got impatient for 3.5 and may have been lulled into a false sense of security by how stable the 3.5 main update builds were recently.

Hey, I use a lot my steam deck as a PC, but everytime there is a "new" sound (I start a video, a game, i change some setting etc) there is a sound coming from the speaker. (Like when you plug a cable jack with the speaker on). Is there a way to fix this ?

Original meme is for Switch.

Have been playing Cyberpunk so far and luckily this doesn't happen often

Excited and have been reading a ton here and elsewhere, the sale just pushed me into finally getting one.
I have a pretty decent gaming PC so curious to try out remote play. Also really into Starfield currently but have it via Gamepass, but read I can do the xbox cloud gaming merhod which 'seems' to work pretty well?

Read rumors about possible new hardware will feel dumb if better model comes out soobish.

Cheers!

A few days ago I noticed a new problem with my right trigger: it wouldn't press all the way down with the normal force I apply, I had to press extra hard for it to actually go over the treshold and become a click. This became an issue in a few games, like Days Gone.

If you search for this issue you'll see it super common, but people's solutions are "scrape the shell with a knife around the trigger" and that's absolutely not the right advice. Quick and easy, here's how you fix it:

  • Go to desktop mode

  • Open Konsole and type: trigger_cal

  • Follow the on-screen instructions. The tool will tell you to release both triggers and press A, then, fully depress and release the left trigger, then the right trigger, then press A again. Done.

Reboot and your triggers will use the new treshold values. That's it, problem solved.

Just a public PSA and was a little sad. I thought the latest kernel updates would address this. Until then, when you plug the official Xbox Wireless USB in- nothing happens.

The 360 Wireless USB adapter still works tho for some reason. 10+ years and its still kicking.

Do you play more than before you got your deck?

Do you play the same kinds of games, or do you play different types of games now?

Do you still play at the same times or places, or have those changed?

Are there any other significant changes to your playing habits?

Easiest way is by using remote play, you'll want to change settings to enable audio on the host, and possibly lower stream bandwidth.

The guide also has another more in depth method.

The documentation for Gamescope has now been updated to note it supports a "subset of Reshade effects/shaders" and so this provides an easy way to layer "shader effects (ie. CRT shader, film grain, debugging HDR with histograms, etc) on top of whatever is being displayed in Gamescope without having to hook into the underlying process".

To be clear, this functionality isn't available in SteamOS yet but hopefully it will be coming soon.
