I'm sure this has been asked, but is there a way to lock specific games onto my home? I want to keep games I usually play there and hide things I either don't, or that I tested once and opted not to keep playing. Using the "hide" option feels a bit too aggressive for that since I'm happy with them being in my library, but I want a clean, curated home screen. CSS didn't have anything that I could find but maybe there's something I'm missing somewhere? Does anyone know of an option?

I've been trying to sell my deck (64gb, like new, only 3 months old) for a couple weeks now. Marketplace, Swappa, OfferUp... But I get zero bites. It's in excellent condition, with screen protector and no controller drift and I've priced it lower than others I've seen sell. I have pictures of all sides, with it on and showing a game. I'm wondering what I need to do to sell it, what am I missing?

I want to get the new deck, but unload this one first, it's more than $100 cheaper than I got it for which means way less than the new decks are going for.

Any suggestions? Or is nobody buying used decks now?

I'm at a friend's house for the night and was invited to an among us group. Installed among us and discord, had everything working (after a restart) within 10 minutes. I was shocked that simply adding a keybind for mute/deafen just worked. Yet another "it's just a computer" moment. I'll have to get that discord overlay thing working at some point.

In addition, the mic seems to work pretty well without using headphones, though I can't hear myself obviously.

I wasn't considering upgrading to the OLED because I didn't use the device enough, but man, I might...

Just for info for someone who are using distrobox and tempting to update to 3.5.5. it looks like this update cause a conflict between flatpak and distrobox (https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/16mwirf/flatpak_update_issue_in_35_preview_related_to/?sort=new) and the best solution is purge the rootless podman, uninstall it and install it back. But, the thing is it does not worked.

I've been reading reviews and when it comes to the HDR feature, nobody really says much more than "It does HDR!"

Has anyone seen anything on the QUALITY of the HDR? Because it really does seem to be screen dependent.

I have a 4K and 8K Samsung television and I've had to disable HDR on every device connected to them because the picture is dark, muddy, and borderline unwatchable.

I would hope Valve's implenentation would be better, because, well, frankly, anyone will be better than what Samsung is doing.

Examples of what I'm talking about:

HDR On:

HDR Off:

Hi

After I update the SteamOS 3.5.5 , I want to update/install the flatpak packages with flatpak update -y. this command does not worked and I need sudo access for that. Is this become rule of thumb for flatpak packages for this update?

tl;dr Steam OS 3.5 released to stable branch, adding sRGB emulation, and HDR and VRR (for external devices)

Edit: to this rant because I think they deserve it. I'm guessing they did have a ton out bot orders that they cancelled because they are back in stock and my order went through.

They said they were combating bots. I tried checking out as soon as the new decks went on sale. I was going to get the limited edition. Once their servers finally caught up it said it was out of stock. I tried switching to the 1TB non limited edition and they said "you've been trying to make too many purchases". I finally got through again and it said the regular one was out of stock. How was it not bots buying these of a regular user couldn't get through.

I just bought the 256GB Deck at the beginning of this month and it arrived on the 10th for $529. On the 13th they announced the OLED Deck and dropped the price of the 256GB Deck to $399.

I wrote to Steam customer service and asked if I could return the deck and purchase the OLED model for $30 more and they wrote back with two options:

  1. return the deck, get a refund, and then buy the OLED model

  2. keep the deck I own and get $130 in my Steam Wallet.

I'm not sure which option to choose. On the one hand, $130 is a nice chunk of change to buy some games. On the other hand, a brand new, bigger, and nicer deck is worth waiting a couple weeks and $30.

Any advice?

Steam OS just got an update to Steam OS 3.5.2.

1071

Quick summary of the article

  • New fan, it's quieter than both of the previous fans. Will be a huge upgrade for Delta fan users.

  • Old SSD will work, so anyone with a larger SSD from their previous deck should be able to move the SSD with all their games over to the new deck.

  • While the deck is easier to open with the new screws, there is now a ribbon cable run on the outside of the heat shield over the SSD. This cable is glued in place, meaning it's required to disconnect the cable and carefully separate it from the adhesive. An unfortunate decrease in repairability for the device.

  • Most old accessories will work fine, with the exception of replaceable back plates. Even screen protectors should work, since most covered the bezel before.

  • Carrying case has several improvements on the larger model, including Velcro to hold it closed with the zipper closed, and a removable insert case that offers a slimmer, lower protection option.

  • The charging light on the deck is now multi-colored and can change color to let you know when the deck is fully charged.

Here's my two cents.

Many of the original Steam Deck users initially gravitated towards the device for its promise of a "cheap" and convenient, console-like PC gaming experience. Now, with the impending release of the new OLED model, the online marketplaces have been inundated with a huge amount of used Decks at crazy low prices. So, considering how good (for the price) the Steam hardware still is in 2023, and how close we are to Xmas is not too much of a stretch to think that both new and used consoles will have a huge sell.

So what?

Well, i do believe that this further grow may actually push the game developers to release more "deck optimized" games in 2024. The pressure is already there and with more users this trend may actually grow.

What do you think?

This is primarily a podcast, but there is a short article with it. Also worth noting, this podcast came out before the Steam Deck OLED was announced, although it's possible the participants knew of its existence considering they had an early review unit.

It would be great to just replace my LCD screen instead of buying the new iteration of the steam deck...

The new Valve Steam Deck OLED didn't just change the screen: Almost every part of the device has had some sort of revision, from the screws to the power topology of the motherboard. Some of these changes happened silently in the Voyager platform refresh for the Steam Deck, but the majority of large changes are brand new. Memory underwent relocation and now uses better modules, the cooling solution has had its fan flipped and thickened, and the controller component PCBs have had some consolidation and durability improvements. In this tear-down of the new Steam Deck OLED, we'll compare the new Steam Deck vs. the original, old Steam Deck "LCD" model.
