Every time I close a game, there's an extra invisible window or popup thing I need to close before I get to the recent games menu. This only started happening sometime before the 3.5 update and I was hoping that it was just a bug that was going to get fixed but nothing has happened so far.

Anyone else have this issue? Does anyone even know what I'm talking about?

I purchased a brand new Xbox wireless controller. It paired with my steam deck easily but it will not connect and the "X" button on the controller keeps flashing. I've hit every button on the controller and can't get it to actually connect. I've also rebooted the steam deck.

Any help would be appreciated...

Now that I have my new Oled, I'm wondering what would be good video settings for BG3. I can set the preset to ultra and it seems to offer no performance problem, but I wonder if vsync fsr2 etc should be set? How can I get the most amazing BG3 setup?

Wanted to post my experience so far for others that are in the same niche as me, as I didn’t find much on it looking around.

  • Prior to moving my SSD to OLED, I made sure I was current on updates with SteamOS, specifically I was in the Beta branch.

  • I also made sure to download the new APU/SD card drivers on my windows partition. Someone managed to find a wifi driver that works for Windows here - https://oemdrivers.com/network-qualcomm-qcnfa765

  • Haven’t found a working Bluetooth driver yet for windows, so be forewarned on that

  • After the above, I just plucked out the SSD from the LCD over to the LE OLED model - as others have mentioned, be careful of the ribbon cable. I managed to bend back the protective plate enough to get at the screw holding the SSD in place, it was easier getting out than putting back in, but after about 5 minutes of carefully keeping the protective plate peeled back and making sure SSD was properly seated, was able to get screw back in

  • After initial boot with my 2tb SSD, selected the SteamOS boot, got into it, immediately ran another update, restart, and boot straight back to SteamOS.

  • I use Clover as my boot manager, so went into desktop mode and ran the tool, made sure to re-enable the efi partitions again and changed the theme.

  • Restart now brings me to the boot manager, selected my Windows 10 partition

  • On boot, it was oriented in portrait mode (sideways), super easy fix by changing back to landscape

  • Ran APU, SD card, WiFi drivers, everything with those are more operational

  • Windows still missing audio and Bluetooth drivers, but is otherwise functional

Figured to post this to make sure others know what to expect, overall much easier than I thought it was going to be.

For anyone who did not think about it beforehand and struggled as me. You can run KDE Connect on your machine and send keyboard and mouse inputs using kde connect. Almost 0 input lag. So you can do all you need.

For me it was terminal and some work with files on dolphin (for emudeck). I'm not used to steam deck touch pads yet and using shortcuts on keyboard made everything a breeze.

You can transfer files, too, of course.

Also one of the biggest issues with the normal version was the touchscreen pulling rate. 180hz on the OLED feel SO good.

Fanatical is running a Steam Deck games bundle right now. Are any of these games worth the time?

I feel like I've heard good things about Arise, but I'm out of the loop. I don't recognize many of the others by name.

Prices are reasonable, so it's less a question about if it's worth the money, more if its worth the time. (3 for CA$6.79, 5 for CA$9.59, or 8 for CA$13.69)

Terror of Hemasaurus
Jack Move
Garden Story
Castle on the Coast
The Tarnishing of Juxtia
Arise: A Simple Story
Zombie Army Trilogy
Beyond the Long Night
ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree
The Smurfs - Mission Vileaf
Röki
Home Sweet Home EP2
Hero's Hour
Moonlighter
Pathologic 2

Hello community!

We in the team thought we could give you a quick status update on how development is going.

If you don't know what RetroDECK is or want more information check out the wiki over at our Github:

RetroDECK Wiki Link

Status update 2023 - November / December:

It is the end of November and we want to give you a status update on how things are going with RetroDECK. First off development is going steady, and we have a lot of features in the pipeline but also some IRL things that slow us down a bit (work, new baby etc..). But let us talk about what we are working on and answer some questions.

Note:

Most listed here are subject to change and is just an outline of what we are working on right now. Not all of these features will be a part of 0.8b and we are also working on even more stuff than what we are showing in this post.

Question: How do I move RetroDECK to a new device?

You can find a detailed step-for-step guide here for both Linux Desktop and Steam Deck:

How to: Move RetroDECK

For a ultra-quick guide:

  • Just copy the ~/retrodeck folder to the new device to the location you want it.
  • Install RetroDECK on the new device and point to it the new location of ~/retrodeck during first setup:
    • If you put it on the internal drive – choose that option
    • If you put it on the sd card – choose that option.
    • If you put it in a custom location – choose that option.
  • Then proceed installation as normal.

What are you working on?

New Emulators/Systems

We will be trying to include all of these in the next big update 0.8b

  • OpenBOR
  • IkemenGO (M.U.G.E.N)
  • Solarus
  • MAME (Standalone)
  • Ryujinx
  • SCUMMVM (Standalone)
  • Vita3K
  • GZDoom (Standalone)

We have worked with several of the development teams of the emulators to add various functions we could use and improve the emulators for everyone regardless of whether you use RetroDECK or not. They have also worked with us to help us integrate into RetroDECK better. We want to give special thanks to the Vita3K Team and Ryujinx Team.

New Feature: Yuzu (Custom)

Yuzu (Custom) is something we are working on for those that want to use the Early Access version of Yuzu. So, you will get the ability to run the EA .appimage version from inside RetroDECK in some fashion.

But the downside is that it will not fully hook into the RetroDECK Framework, so you will need to configure things like input manually the first time you run it. But the goal is you can select it in the alternative emulator selector in ES-DE and pick Yuzu (Custom) from the list.

New Feature: Steam Flatpak version support

We have gotten feedback that users want us to support the Steam Flatpak version and are trying to make it happen. Examples of features that need to work are the “Controller Profiles”, “Add RetroDECK to Steam” and the “Add games to Steam” function. We are still not sure if everything will work as intended in the Flatpak version of Steam.

If you for some reason have both normal Steam and flatpak Steam installed on the same system. The none flatpak version will take preference over the flatpak version (this is also how projects like Lutris do things).

But running a flatpak within a flatpak is something the users will need to think about.
If the users want RetroDECK and other flatpaks to run from Steam they will need to open the permissions in the sandbox from either terminal or Flatseal. This does open the sandbox more than the standard configuration that Steam comes with as default.

New Feature: SFTP

We are looking into letting users enabling SFTP transfers for easy transfers of files (roms, saves etc..).

New Feature: Cloud Sync

We have done some work cloud sync both live sync and backup to various cloud services. But nothing to show just yet.

New Feature: USB Transfer / Backups

Like SFPT, Cloud Sync above will be another way to export import files but via USB.

Status update: External Controllers & Inputs

  • PS3
  • PS4
  • PS5
  • Xbox360
  • Xbox One / S / X
  • Switch Pro
  • Steam Controller
  • Generic

All standard type controllers supported by Steam Input will work with the normal global hotkeys. We are also changing the layout so that you have even more hotkeys.

If you want to try them right now, you can do that by going into the following github issue and follow the instructions over there (they also work on current stable, just extract the zipfile in the correct folder and enjoy):

Github Issue with Download

Status update: Multiuser mode

We are still working on it with all the complexity. The goal is to support both Steam users from the Steam Deck and local RetroDECK users for desktop users. It does “work” right now in our cooker builds, but it still needs more time in the oven. There are a lot of variables to account for before we feel ready to ship it to everyone.

Status update: Adding RetroDECK games as Steam Entries

We are still working on it and have it working on our cooker builds. But we are still trying to get it to work on the Steam Flatpak version. There are also some other ideas we want to try to make it even better, but more of them if we can make them happen in a later development update.

Status update: Configurator GODOT version

The work is ongoing and not something that will be part of 0.8b. We have general plans for the GUI and internal versions we can play with. But the goal stays the same replace the entire configurator with a nice GODOT controller navigational interface and replace all the Zenity windows with it.

Status update: Mascot

After the last development update, we got connected with Tyson Tan the artist behind both the KDE and Krita mascots. We are hopeful we can work something out together.

That is all for now!

Also there will be no December update post thanks to the upcoming holidays!

To everyone out there in our community, we want to wish you a festive holiday period and a Happy New Year.

Want to contribute to RetroDECK?

We are always looking for more people to help us with the project.

  • Developers (help us improve RetroDECK and get updates out faster).
  • Website developer (to help us improve our website).
  • Video Editor (to help us with patch notes / hype videos on various platforms).

Probably helpful for Steam Deck OLED users or for people with external HDR displays.

On the current Beta branch (3.5.5 and upwards) you can filter for games that support HDR on the shop.

Go to store

-> Select 'Search Steam' on the top row on the far right

-> Press Y (Filter)

-> Check 'HDR available' under 'Narrow by feature'

They're currently only 44 games total tagged like this, but maybe the developers still have add the tag.

Viewing a games Store page you can also see the tag 'HDR available' under 'Features'.

Same for your library, the HDR checkbox is in the Hardware Support category there.

With the use of Heroic game launcher, I’m wondering if you all preferred to play your GOG version of games over the Steam version. I can go either way but sometimes I pause and think, having two copies of the same game, one on steam and one on GOG, which one would give me a better gaming experience. For example, I may choose the GOG version because I don’t have to deal with pre-shader work being downloaded every so often and support DRM free gaming, owning my games. Take the game files anywhere I go. I can just into my games. Yet, Steam achievements and seeing the game’s metadata is always life: seeing the game info, store page, community stuff about the game, and more all there. So what do you chose? GOG game or the Steam game.

I was wondering how many of you out there who ordered the OLED model on release already got their Deck? Mine is stuck at "packaged items" for a couple of days and I am starting to get anxious when I get it.

Hello all, I'm trying to find out what games are highlighted on the steam deck oled gif that you can see on the main page of steam. One is Armored Core 6, but the other two?

Decky fan control plugin for Steam Deck. The new version fixes SteamOS 3.5 support and has some technical changes for the nerds. It should be available on the Decky store soon™

Is it me or is this worth playing in the shadows format over the regular color version? I am at the bat cave and some aspects don’t show on the bat cave monitor, like Bruce is looking up at the screen and talking while reference stuff from the screen but it’s just grey to me. It looks like somethings should be there but it’s not since it’s all grey…

Was wondering what the status of everyone’s OLED order is. When did you place your order and what is the current status of it?

The recent 3.5 update broke my headphone mic settings. I use a LCD Steam deck with a splitter cable everything worked fine till this update. I tried everything but nothing seemed to work...

hurts.. but if i were to upgrade, i doubt it's worth it. a bigger oled screen? nah. slightly better performance? no. it's probably not worth it.

Updated my dock to the latest firmware today. It worked fine until I restarted my deck to try and resolve some game streaming issues. After restarting the deck, the dock no longer works. When it is first connected to power, the ethernet lights strobe then go dark. Ethernet isn’t being detected by the deck and neither is the HDMI connection, but it still passes power on to the deck. Anyone else have any issues with this after the latest update?

What are some good multiplayer games to play on the steam deck? They can be online or offline games.
