What controller are you using with the Deck?

My pick after searching around is the 8BitDo Ultimate C (link) which is the cheaper version of the ultimate with no dock. So far, it's been working well for me. I just had to restart the Deck the first time after the pairing, since then, it recognize the device all the time.

Hello, today I tested the performance and efficiency gains of my Steam Deck OLED at different TDP settings. As a benchmark i used 3DMark Firestrike. Which might not be the best benchmark for the Steam Deck, because it renders at 1080p. But you can still get good information from the results.

I was looking for a way to charge my Deck while still being able to use mouse and keyboard. So, 2 month ago I decided to get a cheap USB-Hubs (Anker USB C Hub, 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1)).

Turns out this was the worst mistake I could make. Immedialy after connecting the Hub, my Deck wouldn't charge power anymore. Like, at all.. The only way the Deck is working now is having it connected with the power cord and even than it says "not charging". Like if it had no battery inserted at all.

I tried to follow online instructions, factory reset and even contacted Steam Support. It's been 2 month and I'm on 78% battery now..

Has anyone encountered this problem and was able to fix(!) it? Should I send it in, or is there a component I need to get from ifixit?

Any help would be appreciated.

Been tinkering with Wii emulation and found that most posts about how to access Dolphin's menu in game mode are too complex. So I decided to make a post about a simpler method I discovered.

[Assumptions] I'm using EmuDeck to set everything up and accessing the game through game mode. (Steam game Icons set up by Steam ROM manager).

[How To]

1. So first , go to the game's page and click on the "gear" icon. Then click on "properties".

2. In launch options, delete the -b in org.DolphinEmu.dolphin-emu -b -e (The -b prevents Dolphin's menu to be created in the first place)

3. Launch the game, then press the steam button. You will see a second window under the "Switch windows" section. Choose the second one, and you will see Dolphin's menu.

4. (Edit: There are better navigation solutions in the comments!) ~~In order to navigate it, change controller config to "Web Browser" preset~~
   Click on settings you wish to adjust. All the tabs you open in Dolphin menu will also show up under "Switch windows" too.

5. After you finish adjusting stuff. Simply close the tabs you opened and switch back to the tab that the game is on.

Looking at the charging preferences of the Steam Deck, which from my research wants 45W at 15v/3A, it looks like the larger model should work just fine. And with it being $15 USD / $18 CAD this could be an incredible bargain.

It's so new though I can't find any info on it being used with a Steam Deck. I'll definitely be grabbing one to try, as it would be perfect for my USB hub that sits by the TV.

FSR 3.1 has improvements to the quality of upscaling, and separates frame generation from upscaling, which will allow the frame generation to be used with other types of upscaling.

The article includes a comparison between FSR 2.2 and 3.1, and the improvements are pretty significant.

FSR 3.1 will have to be implemented on a per game basis, so it will be awhile before we see it in games. Games that have announced that it's coming in an update are: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Cyberpunk 2077, Dragon's Dogma 2, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, Frostpunk 2, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.

Several games got noteworthy updates lately, and rather than separate posts I wanted to cover them together.

• Red Dead Redemption 2 got updated to FSR2.2 - It already had FSR2 but the quality is better now

• The Last of Us Part 1 got updated with FSR3

• Stardew Valley's big 1.6 update is finally out - Adds a ton of content, too much to list here. There aren't any steam deck specific improvements that I know of, but with how popular it is on Deck I figured it was worth mentioning.

• Halo Infinite got updated to use EAC anti-cheat - but it is thankfully enabled on Steam Deck. They also improved their network for online play and improved the Forge.

• Slice and Dice got a massive 3.0 update, and finally got released on Steam - This is one of my all time favorite games, I can't recommend it enough if you enjoy games like Slay the Spire and Dicey Dungeons. I've been playing it since thanksgiving of 2021, and have never stopped. It's been on itch.io and android for awhile now, but it's finally been released on Steam and iOS. It's possible to run the itch.io version on Deck already, but for some reason the .zip would extract improperly if you used the gui archive manager, requiring people to use the unzip command instead. Having it available through steam is a lot easier for most people.

• Deep Rock Galactic Survivor had it's first content update, adding a new biome, new enemies, balance changes, bug fixes, and more.

If you have any other games you think deserve some attention for a recent update, feel free to add them.

Title says all, is it possible to use a mainline kernel on a non-SteamOS install or do you have to use Valve's kernel they ship with SteamOS 3.x? Is it possible to find all the the patches they use and compile a kernel yourself?

The next time you log in to Steam, this new 'family library' will appear in the left column as a subsection of your games list. Also adds parental controls for children's accounts. Parental controls let you:

• Allow access to appropriate games

• Approve or deny requests from child accounts for additional playtime or feature access (temporary or permanent)
• Recover a child's account if they lost their password

To be clear, this is just an alternative Linux OS. The hardware shown in the thumbnail and article is just a mockup meant to represent a potential handheld. Part of their goal is to offer equally good support for all PC game stores (epic etc) vs the "steam first" experience of the deck.

Dedicated builds for the Steam Deck and other handheld PCs are to come later this year.

For those who don't know, the SteamGridDB plugin lets you download alternate game art for your steam library. It's really cool and includes animated art as well.

This update makes it compatible with the Steam Beta (that broke a lot of plugins), fixed a bug where it would only show the first 50 alternate art assets, and gives an option to revert to the original art.

Hey all. I was looking for a dock online and noticed a decent amount of third party ones on ebay and Amazon. Anyone tried any, or know a good brand?

I don't see myself playing on my TV much, just when I have friends over, so I can't justify the cost of the name brand.

Over the last few days I've had issues connecting my SN30 controller. It seems to connect (the paired light is on on the controller, and Steam recognises it) but none of the inputs are recognised.

Weirdly enough this only seems to be the case whilst it's docked. Undocked, the Deck lets me use it as normal. I've tried both the Xbox and Switch pairing modes on the controller, with the same result.

I just tried pairing a regular Pro controller and it worked perfectly. So the issue seems to specifically be with the SN30. Has anyone else had issues, or do you have any suggestions to fix this?

*Edit: Updating the controller firmware has fixed this it seems! Over the last few days it has connected to my Steam Deck straight away, and also now seems to know when the Deck has been turned off which is cool, and subsequently turns itself off. I'm using the Xbox connection method.

Basically, I'd like to make desktop mode look and feel a little more like MacOS, and this app is kind of essential. Unfortunately I don't know anything about what's happening when it doesn't install. I've set a sudo password, I've disabled read-only, I've initialized the pacman keys (whatever that means), now it says "unknown trust"...

Is there a straightforward tutorial somewhere on how to do something like this for an absolute beginner? I assumed changing the appearance and layout of my desktop should have been an easy and harmless first step for a Linux noob to try, but I already feel like I'm just smashing my head up against a wall.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The top 100 list has already been posted, but I thought this article makes some interesting observations on the list.

Overall the variety of games and experiences on that list really show how versatile the deck is, and that people can still have a great time with games that aren't a perfect experience on the deck.

While I would still prefer no anti-cheat, this also means we probably won't have to worry about a non-compatible anticheat getting added later.

MineTest on a SteamDeck is so fun, y'all.

Been doing quite a bit of in-home streaming from PC to Steam Deck lately, and decided to give Chiaki4Deck a try for PS5 to Steam Deck in-home streaming.
