Steam Deck

I’ve been watching this game as I enjoy this genre, and it has spaceships! Anyway, there is a demo up now, and as suspected it is great on Deck!

I use the Keyboard and Mouse Steam input template, but touchscreen kinda works better. Give it a whirl and see what you think! Title is a link right to the store page.

Honestly I think it's probably too soon for the kind of significant performance increase Valve is wanting for the Steam Deck 2. Not to mention that the OLED deck just came out. That said, even if these chips don't make it to a Deck 2 I'm sure we'll see them in competing devices.

Considering the type of game, I'd be very surprised if it didn't run well on the Steam Deck. That said, it's always great to hear that game developers are making an active effort to support the Deck.

This fixes several bugs, but the most interesting addition is adding controller support to some different game launchers.

They're now making use of an open source tool called Xalia, which is a program that provides a gamepad UI for traditional desktop applications. So far this has been integrated for the launchers in Red Faction, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (the original), Clustertruck and Mugsters.

After Brotato addiction I found this gem of a game, right before the sequel announcement it seems. It's such a perfect game for the Deck at least for me - you have time to think, the controls just work and you can just put the game down and continue your run later.

Do yourself a favor and try it out even though your first runs will probably be a disaster. The core game mechanic is so tight and well done it's a pleasure to play loop after loop. 50 hours later I still want to do 'one more run'.

This is some gameplay from Operation Harsh Doorstop which is a free multiplayer tactical shooter with large open maps and vehicles, and more importantly from the beginning integrating a modding SDK was central to the objectives of the devs which is a really REALLY nice breath of fresh air (looking at you battlefield series... and call of duty series).

Operation Harsh Doorstop was pretty barebones until fairly recently, but the game now has most of the elements it needs to provide a fun large scale multiplayer shooter game complete with vehicles and I think in it's current state it is quite fun to play! It didn't used to run well on the Steam Deck at all, but with recent updates performance has improved to the point that I can play multiplayer fine (I actually had the graphics set lower than I really needed to in the video). It bodes well for how well future multiplayer games based on the Unreal engine will run on the Steam Deck.

Since OHD is free, it is a no brainer to check out, just pick servers where you can get guns with scopes on them as iron sights are only fun when you have a huge monitor and a high resolution. Development is ongoing so keep your eye on it!

For those who don't know, ProtonUp-Qt is a program for easily installing different versions of proton. The most notable of these is ProtonGE, which includes additional licensed media codecs (that will fix video playback in some games) and other fixes.

Changelog:

• Steam: Display which games are using a certain Anti-Cheat Runtime.
• Improvements were made to the Shortcut Editor.
• Updated the AppImage build to a more recent version. This may cause a problem if your OS version is from before the year 2022. Report that on GitHub and update your OS to a more recent version or use ProtonUp-Qt v2.9.1 in that case.
• Fixed a crash that occurs when a Steam installations is missing files, PR #356.
• Fixed a crash when a game with the AWACY Denied status is detected, PR #354.

I keep reading how hard it is to get this game running. I'm still quite new to Linux. Whats the easiest way to get this game working?

I just saw the ASUS handheld in the wild. It was running some FPS game pretty well.

Can anyone help me compare the two - Steam Deck OLED vs comparable ASUS version? Which do you prefer? Pros/cons?

I’m almost decided to buy the Deck OLED, but seeing that in the wild made me pause. It looks nice.

I recently purchased DMoMaM and the in game keybinds are all messed up. The biggest and most notable is z being bound to move forward instead of W. The default keybinds for the steam deck has w for move forward, as well as all of the highly upvoted community layouts, so something is definitely going wrong.

Switching Z out for W is easy enough, but all the other bindings are wrong too and this game has a lot of controls. The mystery of why this is happening is also bothering me. Ive of course tried resetting the controls to default but it sets walk forward right back to Z. I've done some googling and it might be defaulting to the keybinds for an AZERTY keyboard but I have no idea why this would be happening or how to change it. My virtual keyboard is the standard QWERTY layout.

If anyone has any ideas for things I could try please let me know!

First I've heard of this, glad Valve does such a good job with warranty coverage.

Steam Deck plugin for controlling additional power settings. New in this version:

• Online repository of setting profiles
• Settings variants for every game #82
• New save file and override file format
• Steam Deck OLED compatibility tweaks

It should be available on the main Decky store soon™ (it's already on the testing store). I lurk here too much to ask for a favour, but if you submit a testing report you can speed up getting this version onto the main store.

I probably should have posted this earlier back when Lethal Company was more popular, but better late than never.

For installing mods, you first need to go to desktop mode and download r2modmanPlus. You specifically want the r2modman-x.x.xx.AppImage file from the release page. You can run this app image in desktop mode to access the mod loader, and install mods for the different supported unity games. After downloading the mods you want through the built in downloader, you can click "Start Modded" in the upper left corner to start the game. It will open steam and run the game with the mods. You will usually see a command prompt window open before the game does, this both lets you know the mods are enabled and will let you see if there are any errors with the mods running.

After you've confirmed the game will run with mods in desktop mode, the next step is to get mods working in game mode. In R2modman, open the settings menu at the bottom, and look for an option that says "launch options". This will say something like --doorstop-enable true --doorstop-target "Z:/home/deck/.config/r2modmanPlus-local/LethalCompany/profiles/Default/BepInEx/core/BepInEx.Preloader.dll" -r2profile "Default". You want to copy this command, and then go to steam game properties for the game you're running and paste these launch options into the launch arguments box. If you have trouble copying the command, you may need to connect a keyboard or bind "ctrl + sub command c" to one of the deck's back buttons. Now the game should run with mods in game mode.

Troubleshooting:

If you have any trouble and the game is installed to a microsd card, you may need to move it to your internal SSD.

Sometimes the resolution of games will get messed up being launched with mods this way. Here are some suggestions if you get weird resolution scaling:

• In steam game properties, set the resolution from automatic to 1280x800.

Alternative resolution fix:

1. Launch game in desktop from mod manager

2. Open settings

3. set display mode to "Window"

4. From desktop, click top bar of window Lethal Company is running in, then right-click

5. From drop down select "Maximize". Resolution should now be scaled to native.

6. In game settings, select "Windowed Fullscreen", everything should work now without window borders.

This guide was largely written from memory, so I may have left out some helpful details. If you notice anything missing or have any issues let me know and I'll try to update it.

Hello all - new Steamdeck owner here. I also own a PS5 and had been wanting to stream to my deck.

I learned about Chiaki4deck and did the install this weekend and was up and running playing games within a few minutes. However, I am still having a few issues getting the Touchpad on my PS5 controller to work right.

The controller works fine with that one exception.

I have a few games that really utilize the pad - is there something that can be done on the Deck side help with compatibility?

Edit: just resolved the issue thanks to @PlasticExistence@lemmy.world: the firmware on the controller I was trying to use had not been updated. Once I did the issue resolved itself.

Hi friends.

I own a couple of games that are pretty much played exclusively with the Steam Deck's touch screen. There are some community layouts that do work but they honestly suck. The best example for this is Magic Arena or Football Manager 2024.

Holding the Steam Deck with one hand is a bit uncomfortable, the ergonomics aren't good. I'm sure there must be some kind I'm accessory I'm not aware of that improves this. I tend to play on the couch, a kickstand wouldn't be great here.

Hello everyone,

I'm having a strange issue with Ubisoft Connect on my Deck. I followed a guide to add the installer as a non-Steam game, install it, then change the target to the correct compatdata path so the program launches.

However, after I logged in, it immediately opened a prompt to activate a CD Key. Cancelling or closing with the X button at the top makes the menu go away, but then the app just runs without any further prompt until I hit Stop in Steam. There doesn't seem like there's any way around that prompt and I can't continue to install any games. I'm trying to install my Ubisoft Connect copy of Assassin's Creed: Revelations if that makes any difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I own an older monitor that has only has VGA and DVI port and I want to connect it to my deck for daily use.

In theory this should be as simple as getting a DVI to HDMI converter cable and then connect to a dock that has a HDMI port, right? Or perhaps a DVI to display port adapter instead? I've read about people having trouble with DVI monitors so I checked multiple dock vendors and their statements boil down to "we don't support it", ie they don't deny or rule out that it works but don't want to give guarantee either.

Is anyone in a similar situation and can recommend a dock? I want to resolve the monitor situation first and then worry about additional stuff like USB ports, etc.

Edit: I got it working and it was quite simple, here's my steps:

1. I checked the port at the back of my monitor (reference chart) which turned out to be DVI-I dual link.
2. then I purchased a HDMI <–> DVI adapter cable which supports my monitor’s resolution (1080 p). This costs around 10 €.
3. connected that cable to the official Steam Deck dock and my monitor and it works without any further setup
4. while in the Deck’s Desktop mode you can go into the system settings --> display and make your external monitor the primary display. Primary means that your start bar is located there, new apps will launch on this screen by default, etc. In the same settings menu you can also turn off the Decks own display while the external one is connected. I do this because I can’t comfortably look at it anyway while it’s in the dock and also to save energy.

Update changed something with EAC, which is making it unplayable. I don't necessarily think we're missing out on much given the reviews/etc for the game.

The developers have acknowledged the problem and say they're working on a fix.

I have to send in my Deck for an RMA. As I had to reimage it anyways I decided to play around with OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. It took some small trial and error, but by booting into the Gnome live image I could enable the on screen keyboard in the accessibility settings and thus complete the install of Tumbleweed without any additional problems.

I was especially surprised to find that Gnome would turn the screen around correctly by itself. With KDE Plasma I had to set the correct screen orientation myself. And unfortunately Plasma also did not come with any on screen keyboard so it was effectively unusable.

But if you like Gnome you can put it onto your Deck without any additional hardware besides the SD card or USB stick. From a first look everything was working like it was supposed to.

I know what I will be doing as soon as I get my Deck back.
