I got a steam deck from my parents for my birthday. (Is that weird? I’m 40…). I picked up the sale for Control for the base game + DLC for around $5 USD. I am absolutely loving it. It runs fantastic (use the -dx11 launch option). The screen is so clear.

I don’t know, nothing else to say. Just excited. Any other killer games I should try? Does not need to be FPS.

its insane to me that a game that requires you to bring up the onscreen keyboard or use the touchscreen once gets perma slapped with the yellow warning, but games where the cutscenes throw up the stupid test pattern get verified

booted up re7 just now, and the opening cutscene just doesn't work. I could fix it by just installing GE 10-10, but still, not exactly the out of the box perfect experience that "verified" is supposed to mean

Honestly one of my best gaming experiences ever. I enjoy playing it docked to my TV and found the 40/40 setting to be perfect for both docked and handheld.

Heading into light spoiler territory so please read on only if you've finished the game (or don't care lol). As many say, the Genichiro fight atop Ashina Castle was where I got hooked, but the combat clicked for me a bit earlier with Lady Butterfly. I made steady progress until the final boss, which took me 16 hours! Not once did I feel frustrated though. Ran out of spirit emblems after a dozen or so attempts and tried the rest of the attempts by just deflecting, damaging and countering. It was so much fun learning the movesets of Isshin phase 2 and phase 3. And beating him was genuinely the greatest feeling of accomplishment I've had in gaming.

Anyone else finish Sekiro entirely or almost entirely on the Deck? How was your experience?

EDIT: Someone asked for settings so here they are! https://www.flickr.com/photos/203246817@N05/albums/72177720328047267/

I know that one of the advantages of the Steam Deck is its customizability.

But I don’t have the patience for that, so I’d like to know what the experience is like for users who don’t tweak any settings. Just download and play the games.

I want the most plug-and-play experience possible.

My fear is that some games might only run well if certain internal settings on the console are adjusted.

One example I know I won’t mess with is emulation. I understand it requires a certain level of knowledge, and I don’t plan on touching that kind of software.

So, after about 1 month of receiving my steam deck (512 GB LCD model), I've been having a nonstop blast. I've been playing a ton of ANTONBLAST, Streets of Rage 4, and Batman Arkham Origins. And after finally getting my emulation to work (I'm not too familiar with PC emulating, i do it just my phone) I've been finally able to play some of my all time favorite games, AND experience some older games I never got the chance to play because I didn't have the money growing up. It was mainly just my Wii & 3DS I played, nothing else, really. But thanks to this small but powerful handheld, I've been able to relive both the best of modern AND older games. Almost completely ignoring my Xbox Series S, and I am not even bothering to use my Switch 1 (which is sitting there collecting dust lol) and not even thinking of getting a switch 2. Especially since now the S2 is anywhere between $500-800 USD due to scalpers on ebay.

TL;DR, Get you a steam deck. Hands down one of the best decisions I've made in a long time.

This thing is just awesome, was very on the fence between this and the Switch 2 and i wouldn’t even think twice about it now. Being able to play anything from Border Lands 3 to Pay day 3, to Mario Kart double dash or even MK9 is just amazing. This little device is truly so fun especially if you are a fan of older titles. W
