Sharing this new interview from a Toronto daily newspaper about the making of the upcoming time travel episode. (Contains light spoilers regarding the places in Toronto visited in the episode.)

From a mostly visual aesthetic, which Klingons do you prefer?

TOS/TAS

Anyone play any Star Trek Tabletop games? (Specifically STA, the SFU games from ADB, or Attack Wing/Alliance)? I wanted to get a tabletop gaming magazine together for that, but I don't know if it has a justifying interest.

I know it's been done to death all over the internet but not here yet!

If you could choose any actor or actress to be in Star Trek who would you choose?

I recently saw that Nic Cage said he was a Trekkie and I'd absolutely love it if he played an insane alien villain of some sort for an episode or two. Get him in star trek legacy as a crazy ferenghi or something.

I watched a review of the TNG episode "Thine Own Self" a while ago where it was mentioned that Picard doesn't appear until the very end after Data gets back to the Enterprise, after all the scenes of Crusher having the bridge and Riker observing Troi taking the test to becoming a commander. They suggested that Patrick Stewart may not have been around for most of the filming but they needed him to appear at least a bit in the episode because it was in the contract.

Is this a common thing? Yesterday I was watching DS9's "Paradise Lost" and couldn't help but notice that Bashir only has like 3 lines on the Defiant and could easily have not been there. But Quark doesn't appear in the episode at all.

But if Armin Shimerman didn't need to be in every episode they could easily have cut him from the episode "Duet" because the only line Quark has is him wondering whether Bajoran survivors of a labour camp like to gamble.

Maybe I'm just thinking too hard about what happens behind the scenes instead of just enjoying the show.

I posted this on r/startrek yesterday, but I've moved to Lemmy now.

I've noticed a number of memes already popping on this community. One thing I always valued about Reddit was that the larger communities were often able to clearly delineate which spaces were for different types of content, and I'd hate for that to get lost in the move to the Fediverse.

Could I suggest that, while people are still getting used to the new home of the communities that used to exist in the Star Trek subreddits, it might be helpful to distinguish between them with a simple sticky post on each community?

e.g. Something along the lines of:

!StarTrek is for Star Trek news and discussion.

!DaystromInstitute is for serious, in-depth discussion.

!Risa is for memes and shitposts.

Please help the mods by picking the right community to post in, and live long and prosper!

This would also have the benefit of continually publicising the existence of the smaller DaystromInstitute and Risa communities.

Comet TV is showing the first four Star Trek films, and "The Captains Close Up" this weekend.

Comet TV is an American digital broadcast television network. I get it over the air in my area. The channel can also be viewed online at the Comet TV web site.

Shall we embrace cross posting?

Shall we have links in our bios if we have accounts on both? Is anyone here actively using both at the same time? How's it going?

Any advocacy on the sub-reddits by cross posting lemmy threads/comments and maybe doing more?

Or we just ignore each other?

I love how it looks. I’ve been trying to figured out what the background is, though.

Me: I can’t place that background.

My brain: It’s Montana.

Me: What?

My brain: What?

@startrek I just started following you so I haven't had a chance to read many of your posts. I'm curious about your thoughts on "Strange New Worlds." I think it's the best Trek since TNG with the best first season of any series in the franchise.

This place has roughly 3,000 people and was intended to be an entire replacement for DaystromInstitute and StarTrek as they were going dark indefinitely. Well, within 4 days the moderators have walked back those statements and opened both subreddits up. I see no incentive for people to come to this website now and while a few may come here in the future, most people will go to r/startrek with 600,000 people.

Who is inspired to make an LCARS theme for this sub??

One of the wonderful things about lemmy/free and open source software like this is that nobody would be forced to use an LCARS theme, under settings a user can change what theme they want lemmy to display in. So... really we can go all out here!

I provided a link to some lemmy themes to give people an idea of the possibilities.

(I am not an admin or anything here, of course the people running startrek.website would need to agree to install the theme on the server side but I figured I would throw the idea out there!)

Local should be renamed to "Starfleet" maybe?

:P

Kind of a joke but honestly it might help star trek fans who are new to the fediverse grasp onto things quicker...
