Just finished this A24 feature about a home android and its “memories”. The world building here was really well done and the story was a bit like an old science fiction novel. The background to how this world and its “technosapiens” came to be would probably make a good TV series.

Big power, weird motor
The TS looks like nothing else on the road because it is like nothing else on the road. It’s electric, for starters, making it still a rare thing in the world of motorcycles, but its performance is even more radical. It has a whopping 201 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque, almost twice as much as a Corvette E-Ray.
That torque comes from an unusual source. When coming up with the initial design for a motorcycle in 2018, Verge Motorcycles CTO Marko Lehtimäki said that the team was unhappy with the few electric motorcycles on the market.

Lehtimäki said that most electric motorcycle designs simply replace the basic layout of a gas-powered motorcycle, swapping an engine for a motor and a gas tank for a battery. “We thought that cannot be optimal,” he said.

Placing the battery high in the frame was one particular concern. “These batteries are very heavy,” he said. “The center of gravity gets high and these are top-heavy and not very enjoyable experiences compared to traditional motorcycling.”

Verge Motorcycle’s engineers knew they needed to put the battery down in the bottom of the frame, keeping the center of gravity as low as possible. But, by dropping the battery to the base, they filled up the space usually occupied by a motor.

“We came to a conclusion that we would need to move the motor outside of the main chassis, out of the body of the motorcycle,” he said. So they decided to try something different: putting the motor inside the rear wheel.

In-wheel electric motors are not exactly rare. In fact, they’re common in the e-bike scene, found on options like the VanMoof S4 or the BirdBike. The TS Ultra’s motor, though, is something different.

Despite Star Trek: Discovery's critical success, it was far from a fan-favorite. Though all four seasons boast an average 85 percent critical score, the audience score is at a dismal 37 percent. Since audience scores are more strongly correlated to overall viewership, Discovery simply wasn't pulling the numbers to make it a financially viable intellectual property.

Unfortunately – while established with the benevolent intent of providing free housing and food, as well as prospects for future employment – the Sanctuaries quickly degenerated into inhumane internment camps for the poor and mentally ill. Even though people with criminal records were not allowed inside Sanctuaries, it didn't take long for the homeless and unemployed to be joined by violent social outcasts. These groups were referred to by their slang terms – gimmies, dims, and ghosts.

Back in 2018, the Oscar-winning writer/director Quentin Tarantino was working with J.J. Abrams on a very different kind of Star Trek movie. The film was based on an idea of Tarantino’s and it would have been R-rated. Paramount put the movie into development in parallel with a planned “Star Trek 4” followup to Star Trek Beyond. Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) was brought in to write a script, but by the end of 2019, Tarantino had backed away from the project. Now Smith is talking more about the movie and why it didn’t get made.

What many fans may not know is that Ensign (Ensign Sonya Gomez) was destined for a much greater storyline which was left on the cutting room floor.
