Audiences have been anticipating the sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two pretty much since the moment the credits started to roll on Denis Villeneuve’s Dune back in 2021. Three years ago the filmmaker adapted basically just the first half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel, with high hopes that it would do well enough to earn a sequel. It did, and that second movie was set to hit theaters in November 2023, before the actor’s strike caused it to be delayed. Now we’re finally mere weeks away from finally seeing Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides unite with the Fremen.

In anticipation of the premiere, Dune: Part One has been reissued for IMAX screenings, and moviegoers were treated to a 10-minute sneak peek of Dune: Part Two. Fans apparently got to see the sandworm ride that was teased in the Dune 2 trailer, and their reactions are sure to have people running to purchase their advance tickets. Ezra Cubero says March 1 can’t get here fast enough, writing on X (Twitter):
Yoko Higuchi has similarly high praise, saying that the audiences also got to view a new trailer in addition to the sandworm scene. He writes:

HoloTile — which recently made its YouTube debut at the end of a video honoring Disney Research fellow Lanny Smoot — is an extremely clever and honestly quite elegant solution to some of these issues.

The system is composed of hundreds of small, round “tiles” that look to be about the size of a silver dollar. Each serve as a kind of mini, omnidirectional treadmill. Working together, their only task is to stop the walker from leaving the pad.

“I can walk on this omni directional floor in any direction I want,” Smoot says in the video. “It will automatically do whatever it needs to have me stay on the floor. And what’s amazing about this is multiple people can be on it and all walking independently. They can walk in virtual reality, and so many other things.”

A lot of fans hate this Star Trek sequel, but we think there are some good reasons to give it a second chance.

Apple TV+ released the first trailer for its upcoming sci-fi limited series Constellation which has some auspices that are sure to excite genre TV fans.

The project stars Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Emmy nominee Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad) and is from writer Peter Harness (War of the Worlds). Emmy winner Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad) directs.

Rapace stars as Jo - "an astronaut who returns to Earth after a disaster in space – only to discover that key pieces of her life seem to be missing. The action-packed space adventure is an exploration of the dark edges of human psychology, and one woman's desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and recover all that she has lost."

Scully herself is entering the grid for Disney's long-in-limbo Tron sequel.

Imagine a world where scientists are banned from and even persecuted for practicing their research in technological advancement. This was the reality in China during Mao Zedong’s Cultural Revolution from 1966 to 1976. Fueled by a desire to remove all forms of capitalism from their society, Mao’s followers destroyed laboratories and burned any literature related to science — including science fiction.

Science fiction author Enzheng Tong wrote Death Ray on Coral Island in 1964 but hid it for fear of being persecuted due to the belief that the genre was created by the West to corrupt the people of China. It wasn’t until 1978, under Xiaoping Deng’s reign, that science and technology became a national priority for the country and Tong published his short story. In 1980, director Hongmei Zhang took this opportunity to adapt Tong’s story into a film — keeping the original’s sense of nationalistic pride while taking other liberties to address the scientific failure of Mao’s rule.
