So my fiancé walked out on me a month before our wedding after 5 years together. I always wanted to learn yachting, but I was told that he would not want to learn sailing with me, because he would learn faster and better than me, and I would hold him back.

So I used our honeymoon money to book a 5-day RYA Competent Crew course in the Solent (UK) in the week that we would have gotten married. Dates are 1-5 September. Guess I'll be learning sailing after all 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really need advice as a woman who has never stayed over on a 32ft yacht before. I have done some research on what to pack but it would be fantastic if someone could point me in the actual direction with the following, any links or photos of what you use would be super helpful:

1. What luggage bag do you all use? My osprey duffel is done with life and I can just as well upgrade it. Looking for something rugged that could hold what it takes to go on a yacht for 5 days.
2. Are leggings a good thing to wear? They provide waterproofs. I dont know what to expect of the solent in the first week of september. How many sets of clothes do you go through per day?
3. What sleeping bags and pillows do you all use? My sleeping bag is huge, doesnt pack up small at all, will that be okay?
4. I booked a single berth. How claustrophobic are the sleeping chambers? Should I shotgun a bunk in the saloon to feel less claustrophobic?
5. Shoes. I dont have anything non-marking. I found a pair of helly hansen sailing trainers on sale. In terms of the boots they ask for, is it wiser to invest in expensive leather boots than cheaper rubber boots? I want to go on a rubicon 3 sail next year as well as do my day skipper etc. So do you buy once and get it done with, or do you start off cheap?

Any advice or tricks and tips from other ladies would be appreciated!!

Hi. I just started sailing training this summer so it's my first season.

The thing is, I don't get seasick on a boat, but each time when I come home from a drill I cannot sleep or think straight for a few hours and it feels like the floor is rocking in waves however it's not.

I don't know what's the proper name for this thing, but after ~15 drills from 2 to 3 hours each on laser and santer 760 it doesn't seem to be passing away.

I wander is it okay? Do you experience it? Did you?

I’m pretty new to sailing and when I was out I had my gas line snap. Obviously this wasn’t a big deal at first as I just sailed back towards dock but I ended up stuck in irons only 100 meters from my marina. I was also too close to shore to feel comfortable trying to swing back into the wind and had to call the coast guard. Just wondering if anyone else had anything like this happen, I felt pretty dumb calling them because my engine wasn’t working while on a sailboat. With that being said I’m not sure how I would have gotten into my slip without motor power.

ST. JOHN’S — Officials say a six-metre sailboat headed for Greenland is missing off the southeast coast of Labrador.

The Canadian Coast Guard says the boat was reported overdue on Sunday by a concerned citizen who called the maritime rescue centre in St. John’s, N.L.

Officials say the vessel — called the Tonnerre — departed from Blanc-Sablon, Que., and its lone occupant is on a solo voyage to Greenland.

The Tonnerre’s last known position was recorded last week about 296 kilometres east of Cartwright, N.L.

Several aircraft and coast guard ships, including the Des Groseilliers and Amundsen, have been looking for the missing boat.

The coast guard says there have been no sightings of the vessel nor communications from it since the search began.
