One of the things platforms use to keep us coming back and investing more of our time in building their site for them, is Internet Points. They don't do anything, but we still crave them.

On Reddit, these Internet Points are, of course, called "karma"

In moving on from Reddit, I'm burning over 80k karma.
It feels fine. I mean, it has no real value, and bots can scrounge up that amount of karma in an afternoon, but it still represents a sizable time investment.

How much are you burning, and how do you feel about it?

I've run Power Delete Suite a few times, however it looks like it doesn't delete everything. For me, comments that are older than a few months don't show up in /[user]/?sort=new, and similarly there is a limit to comments displayed under hot, top or controversial. The script also missed my comments in /[user]/gilded - it looks like it only runs on the 4 sorting methods in /[user]/overview.

Basically, my comments that are more than a few months old and have less than ~50 karma (which is the vast majority of them over the years) are invisible on my reddit profile, and thus unavailable to PDS.

However, I did a GDPR data request from reddit beforehand, so I have csv files of every comment, including links. I feel like it should be pretty straightforward to make a script to read the csv, open the links and edit each comment, in much the same way that PSD does. Only I'm not quite up to the task.

Does anyone here know of such a script that's already been made, or know of anyone who would be up for making it? I feel like it's not just me in this boat, and in fact many people might think all their comments have been deleted when they aren't.

Was it through a PM? To your email? How?

As you know, part of the protest includes us users not accessing Reddit at all.

My curiosity got me and I opened r/all.

Here's a screenshot, so you don't have to open Reddit.

I'm a bit confused with my options here. I am looking at Reddit alternatives and see a lot of people flocking to lemmy but it seemed like kbin was the more centrist option?

Apparently lemmy was set up by a tankie and has some CCP propaganda and other problematic background?

https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379

I have accounts with both and definitely seems like kbin is struggling compared to lemmy but that could just be because lemmy is better established? What are people's thoughts?

It's amazing to see how many communities are joining in on the blackout. It's also sad as fuck all.

I've been agitating, in what limited capacity I can, to make to this happen.

It still hurts....

Cheer me up Lemmy! This is likely my new home!

EDIT: y'all are awesome, thank you!

Watching the Reddark stream, I'm surprised how many huge subs there are that I've never heard of after 12+ years on Reddit. Many of them I would've subscribed to.

Too bad we'll never get to experience all those communities ☹️ (until they migrate here of course)

  • type python3 -m pip install bdfr --upgrade on your terminal
  • use bdfr clone ./path/to/output --user me --saved --authenticate (replace ./path/to/output with your chosen directory)
  • you will see a link to copy-paste into your browser to authenticate; click 'allow'
  • enjoy!

Seeing sticky posts on r/RedditAlternatives like https://teddit.net/r/RedditAlternatives/comments/1467a5s/

I don't see how anything can be coordinated when so many options are presented in a confusing way.

Of course, they don't have to choose Lemmy / kbin instances, but I'm worried that a lot of people will stay on Reddit given the inability to properly communicate alternatives.

(Bonus: most platforms listed here ( https://teddit.net/r/RedditAlternatives/comments/yttdlc/list_of_active_reddit_alternatives_v8/ ) are terrible and Lemmy is relegated to the "less active" section; furthermore only lemmy.ml is listed, instead of https://join-lemmy.org for example)

Seeing active users or users per day.

https://reddark.untone.uk and https://www.twitch.tv/reddark_247 are for watching the subs going private, but there's no graph of the actual amount of users reddit having at the moment.

I have a feeling like he is being squeezed by the investors. It feels like they want a tiktok/Instagram clone and he is the one that has to tell the Reddit community.

I don't think this was his vision for the site or he would have done it years ago.

Like it doesn't make it less shitty but more understandable I guess?

Interesting post. It appears some AI generated comments are attempting to drown out discussion about theblackout
