Hey fuzzballs,

I’m putting out a call for a few more mods to help out with this community!

This community was created as a fun, chill, and affirming space for furries to hang out, share art, memes, experiences, and just be our weird wonderful selves, as well as give the users of r/RealFurryHours a place tto go, in case anything happened to the Subreddit.

It’s been great seeing folks join in, but I’ve got my paws full — I already mod a bunch of other communities (on Pawb, Blahaj, and beyond), and it’s getting a bit overwhelming to manage everything solo.

My Mental Health isn't doing so great either.

If you’re active, care about keeping this space friendly and drama-free, and want to help the community grow, I’d love to bring you on as a mod. No experience needed — just good vibes and a willingness to lend a paw now and then.

Comment below if you're interested!

Stay fluffy, – Teknevra

How Do We Feel About This? (oursaferschools.co.uk)

Came across this while looking for UK furry groups.

Not sure how I feel about it.

It's not as fear mongering as many other articles about furries focused on internet safety.

Hey all, I had a bit of a spontaneous idea and wanted to throw it out there for discussion:

Wouldn’t it be interesting if there was a federated, decentralized platform specifically tailored for the furry community—something that could serve as an alternative to centralized spaces like FurAffinity, WikiFur, etc.?

Let me explain a bit:

FurAffinity (FA) – Probably the largest and longest-running furry art and content platform. It’s where most people host their art, stories, and fursonas. But it’s fully centralized—one site, one set of rules, one point of failure. Moderation controversies and outdated features have led to a lot of frustration in the community over the years.

WikiFur – A community-run encyclopedia that’s been around forever. It’s super informative and has a ton of historical/cultural content, but again, it’s centralized. It’s also not very interactive or accessible for casual users who just want quick slang lookups or term definitions.

SoFurry - Focused on written content (furry stories and erotica), plus art and music.

Has social features, groups, and forums.

More modern features than FA, but smaller audience.

FurryNetwork - /Social-media style layout (more like Twitter or Facebook).

Focus on art portfolios and NSFW-friendly.

Centralized and not very actively maintained anymore.

FurVilla - MMO/forum hybrid with virtual pets and community events.

Strong community element, although it leans more toward a furry-themed game.

Weasyl - A community art site launched as a modern FA competitor.

Open-source, more advanced features, but never caught on at scale.

Development is slow, community is small but loyal.

etc.

Now obviously, Pawb.Social is already a furry-run Lemmy instance, and I love that we’re carving out furry space(s) in the broader Fediverse.

But I was imagining something a bit more purpose-built—a platform that’s:

Fully federated and decentralized

Designed by, and exclusively for, furries

Combines elements of:

A Lemmy-style discussion space (but specifically furry-centric)

A Furry Dictionary/Encyclopedia, similar in function to Urban Dictionary or Merriam-Webster, but focused on furry terms, slang, lore, species archetypes, cultural norms, history, etc.

Think: a living, community-maintained knowledge base—exclusively furry in focus.

Something truly ours.

Ideally this would be its own standalone federated platform—not just a Lemmy instance, not just another Mastodon server—something unique that could still interoperate with the Fediverse, but serve a more tailored role for our niche.

Unfortunately, I personally don’t have the coding ability or the time to take on something like this, but I wanted to throw it out into the aether and see if:

Anyone else has thought about something similar?

Something like this already exists?

Or maybe someone here has the chops (or interest) to explore it?

Would love to hear your thoughts, even if it’s just “cool but impractical” or “here’s a tool that already does part of that.” or "that sounds like shite. "

This may sound a bit dumb but I genuinely have an issue here.

I've been a furry for about 10 years, and it matters a lot to me. I love to portray myself as my fursona, I love to make furry art and I love making/wearing fursuits. I guess I am very passionate about it and it is sort of a lifestyle thing for me, not JUST a hobby.

However I struggle finding a balance between "i am furry" and "i am just some person". For most people being a furry is just a normal hobby but I just can't find the balance between this and the other stuff I enjoy. I either go full-in on the fandom or I don't at all, because I feel like it doesn't mix with my other interests. (mainly punk subculture and such, where furries don't really seem to be very represented.) Also I just love being myself without identifying myself with my sona. I'm so conflicted.

I'm currently in a process of figuring myself out, which is why I ask this. On one hand I love being dog person, but I don't really want to present myself as that all the time... but at the same time I want to meet like-minded people. Agh.

I hope this doesn't sound ridiculous and someone could share their opinion!

This is how I'm imagining this.

With the fandom growing and furries becoming more normalized in pop culture, I'm concerned without some sort of control or authority within the fandom will only spell disaster if we grow to a point where we hit a political wall.

We already have some states in the U.S. restricting how conventions are healed, we have states trying to pass laws in an attempt to restrict "anthro behavior", and at the same time I fear the fandom will become over sexualized if there isn't anything to control erratic behavior.

I have suggested coalitions so furs have the opportunity to change something in the fandom they do not like or be an alternative to convention spaces, but this is just a young idea I'd probably advocate for.

This is just my thoughts coming from a 20 yo in California.

Probably different abroad.

“Kemono” is pretty much the Japanese version of “furry,” but the characters tend to be drawn a bit differently.

Kemono characters tend to have shorter muzzles, larger anime-style eyes, and more human-like hands and feet.

I guess you could say kemono is more cutesy and stylized compared to western furry stuff?

Haven’t been for about six years. All humans look ugly to me. I pretty much never judge someone’s appearance in real life as to me all humans look roughly the same and I don’t really know why people find other people beautiful or ugly. I sometimes forget that most people are attracted to other people. It’s kind of jarring to hear someone call somebody else beautiful/ugly and it’s just someone who sort of looks like them.

I’m not sure why I don’t find humans attractive but I suspect it might have something to do with lack for variety? Like I said before most humans look very similar to one another in my eyes. Just a few days ago i confused my aunt for my neighbor. I don’t think I have a problem with facial recognition, I’m usually able to tell one person from another but i seem to have a lot of trouble assigning names to faces or being able to recognize someone without directly looking at their face.

The thing about furries is that they are always immediately recognizable and cute. They don’t look weird like humans do. This also applies to a lot of animals. I don’t find animals to be ugly. Something about humans specifically feel uncanny to me, i can’t really picture humans in my head nearly as well as i can animals.

If you look the guests of honor of these big conventions, even fursuit dancers, big furry businesses, even streamers.

A big majority of them to an excessive degree are very privileged and/or grew up with a large amount of wealth.

I am not saying all of them, but from owning very pricy fursuits at young ages, to lack of work history from voice actors, artists who just have their needs met even at age 30 without every having had to work.

I feel like this is a very big problem in the fandom.

I am not saying you need money to make it big, but it is really noticable.

If you guys really want to look into how big this problem is just look at really big furry names from Hazbin Hotel (Animators and Voice Actors), top furry streamers and artists (with lack of work history), dancers with (extremely expensive fursuits), and just other big names you see around.

Hi! I’m a furry of African descent soon moving to Ghana to live and I know there’s not s such furry sector there other than in South Africa, in which is mostly from Europeans who adopted the furry culture in Europe and brought it over, not formed on South African soil usually.

I wanted to ask if you guys think there will be some more growth as social media usage becomes easier to get hands on or just over time customs, I think the western world is more secular and non religious so they tolerate the themes of the furry fandom more than other places.

Opinions?? Any convo is great to me

So I've been scrolling through twt (big mistake ik). Then I saw a furry saying: "pedophiles calling me an animal fucker for finding anthro animals attractive but then riding on the "theyre fictional" card when they drool over children has to be one of the funniest instances of hypocrisy period."

Then many lolicons we're saying how they're the hypocrite, because if finding child-like features attractive makes you a pedophile then finding anthro animals festures (animal features on humans/a human body) makes you a zoophile. What do y'all think? Is this comparison just?

Short and sweet this time for once I hope .. 😅

There's tons of furry and non-furry sexualized horror media. Mr. Pickles, Nightmare on Elm Street, and some video games have been shocking us for years.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again, ya all rock!

14

I don't want to cause trouble but I'm just always wondering why you guys keep saying it's a hobby.

I think it's the same as I like anime, why would I think watching anime is a hobby?

Why are these allowed to be shown in public? Adults would be freaked out and children would be curious.

You don’t want a mother seeing those around her and her child.

What happened to keeping fetishes in private rooms?

I know some will try to say that harnesses, collars, and leashes are not alwaya fethish thing since fursuiters will wear them to look cute.

They may get a pass, but that would be pretty weird for a non-fur to see those wearing all of the things I posted in the title cause they’re mostly described as Pup Play, and part of BDSM.

So again, why are these allowed in public?

I've tried all the different methods of networking, making friends, etc, and I generally try to be kind and also confident.

It just seems that nobody cares about people with a larger body type in the fandom.

Hell I havent even been invited to a room party before, but of course, the few friends i do have all get invited to them and i never get to be the plus one if that option is available.

It fuckin sucks.

I wanna be included in stuff.

Ive been trying to be more active and eat super healthy but honestly it doesnt even seem worth the work.

Just why is it that generally, through my own experience, its either only super thin twinks, super muscular furs, or small muscle guts, no in-between, no diversity in the body types at the parties other than those.

What makes them so attractive to people?

Is the fandom just that damn shallow? Id love to hear other people's thoughts on this because im honestly fed up and depressed after years of being left out and not one offer, even when ive asked them if i could go with them.

Edit: im just really feeling a lot of FOMO and just want to be included in cool stuff other than the panels at cons and tbh i just feel ugly a lot of the time because im not included, even though i try my best to get included in stuff.

More than once I’ve seen either antifurries or zoophiles make the baseless claim that the fandom was, supposedly, founded by zoophiles.

And yet, whenever they say this, they have absolutely no evidence provided about this claim whatsoever.

Does anyone have any idea wtf they’re even getting this from?

(other than out of their asses)

I'm not a furry, but for the past two years or so, I've been thinking off and on about becoming one. There are just a few questions I want to ask that I'm curious about.

What's it like wearing a fursuit, and what kinds of fursuits/options are there to explore?

As a furry (asking you, the reader), would you rather wear a fursuit, or imagine/draw yourself as a humanoid figure?

What makes being a furry... ...being a furry? I understand some people who are furries might like to behave as animals, making animal noises and stuff, but is there more (or less) to being a furry than behaving like an animal? Sorry if this question is weird.

Last week I met a guy through Barq (that actually was real and not a bot). We met up, had dinner, spent some time together and it was fun. He invited me over the other day, also, and had invited me to spend the night tonight.

But then all day yesterday he didn't respond or talk, which got me a bit upset and worried he was just gonna ghost me today. Well, they didn't ghost me but they did have something come up last minute and had to cancel.

I'm pretty upset. But I don't know if I should be. I have a few mental issues, including BPD and being on the autism spectrum so I don't really feel like I understand people, overthink everything, get anxious and have trouble dealing with rejection.

At the same time, they clearly indicated they are in a polycule relationship and have another boyfriend. I've been in similar situations before and most of the time, it's just a fucking game and I'm being played.

I seriously just wanna die rn. 🥺

Hey there,

I've seen a lot of furry art depicting characters with their tongues sticking out lately.

I find them interesting (in a non-sexual manner), but I'm afraid it has some meaning that I don't know of, or is/represents a fetish.

Like this one:

24

So I was watching a show, Lucifer, to be precise, and I was absolutely shocked when I saw a fursuit in the episode that I just watched, I was grinning, and THEN they go to a convention, which I find amazing, I had no idea that there was even an episode like that, it just made my day,

Does anybody else get this? I see photos/videos from events on Reddit, telegram meet groups etc, and just feel so bad that I can't go to them.
