The Mirror joined a beautiful replica of Locomotion No.1 - which made the historic first ever steam trip was on Sept 27, 1825 - with exciting plans to celebrate the birth of the railway.
200 years ago today, the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway Act 1825 was given Royal Assent by King William IV – sparking one of the most significant developments in the early history of the passenger railway in Britain, and perhaps the world.
We marked that moment today with new history boards at Whitstable station so that the story can be better understood by the local community.
