Resident Eric Adams expert Mattie Lubchansky joins the gang to discuss Adams and his loyal retainers, his plans to use an AI system that doesn't work to fight a non existent subway cirme problem, and how he tried to win an argument he had on the radio by getting baptised in prison by Al Sharpton. Then, we talk about the other countries that own England's water supply going on strike until the fat cat public coughs up double their bills, and then an article where a certain Viscount remembers how Liz Truss is a lot like another politician some of us remember.

That podcast feed is also the bootleg one I use with all of their patreon content and reading series.

SHOW NOTES

We are joined by Erin McElroy — author of Silicon Valley Imperialism — to first discuss their work as a co-founder of the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project and the important work they are doing on landlord tech, both as an academic and activist. Then we get deeper into their new book that offers a rich, in-depth analysis of how the racial technocapitalism of Silicon Valley has set up imperial outposts in the postsocialist countries of Eastern Europe, specifically Romania.

Rollout of the new Tesla Cybertruck has been less than smooth, and it turns out that their stainless steel body panels aren’t very resistant to stains or corrosion. Meanwhile, the UAW is fighting to unionize auto plants in the South, Chinese companies are getting ready to sell electric cars in North America, and beloved gas station Kum & Go considers a name change for some reason.

Good episode (quality wise sadness-abysmal ), lib-friendly.

Guest is a palestinian lawyer, so more about dry facts of current isreel legal shit, and some thoughts about palestinian politics. (also, first time i heard israel likes one state solution with palestinians in it, maybe its bad phrasing)

This is an 8 part series about reading education in the U.S. I'm not sure I can summarize it better than the official summary at the link so pasting it here:

There's an idea about how children learn to read that's held sway in schools for more than a generation — even though it was proven wrong by cognitive scientists decades ago. Teaching methods based on this idea can make it harder for children to learn how to read. In this podcast, host Emily Hanford investigates the influential authors who promote this idea and the company that sells their work. It's an exposé of how educators came to believe in something that isn't true and are now reckoning with the consequences — children harmed, money wasted, an education system upended

So far I'm about halfway through episode 5. I think people here will be able to predict in many ways how the story goes. Definitely something I think is important and wasn't aware of (I know that literacy is overall not great in this country, but it's interesting to learn that there is an additional reason besides inequality and low investment in education).
