It’s 2-for-1! Ticks AND Lyme: together in one helpful, disgusting, gossipy, empowerful episode. This pair of episodes is about tiny, thirsty ticks and the diseases they spit into you is wall to wall wisdom from Dr. Neeta Pardanani Connally of the Western Connecticut State University Tick Lab and Dr. Andrea Swei of SFSU’s Swei Lab cover how to remove a tick, if you should spray your yard and with what, how landscaping affects tick exposure, why Lyme Disease is spreading, the Lone Star Tick rolling into town, how to protect your pets and why the CDC ruined poppyseed muffins. Also: Powassan virus, paralysis ticks, and twin princesses, Borrelia and Babesia.

Dr. Neeta Pardanani Connally and Dr. Andrea Swei will charm their way into your heart like a hypostome under your skin.

They really are charming – Dr Neeta's story of rolling around in the underbrush to collect specimens should be horrifying, but her enthusiasm for the activity is so cute 🥰

We chat with friend of the show Michael Richardson—author of the new book Nonhuman Witnessing—about the ongoing, deepening relationships between Silicon Valley and the US military. We check up on new activities from old enemies—Y Combinator, Anduril, Palantir, among others—and get into the changing cultures on both sides as they converge around defense innovation as a solution for Silicon Valley’s problems of needing another endless pool of capital and the Pentagon’s problems of needing to maintain a dying empire and beat China in an arms race.

An interesting 30 minute podcast that discusses a mix of history concerning the Nazis, the nazi collaborator IG Farben Corp, the rise of the nazis to power and a slice of their agitprop tactics in regards to targeting IG Farben prior to their rise to power, and a few short blurbs of history that discusses the two degrees of ideological separation from fascism two-hole Haz and twinkle tinkle Jackson Hinkle are. (Spoiler, its Dugin to some nazi fuck named Karl Haushofer)

I actually find C. Derrick Varn's podcast really interesting and informative. I was going to recommend a specific podcast, but his public and patreon feeds have a very loose correlation with episodes coming out months apart on the two feeds. He claims he will finally cut back on his output, but so far he releases almost 5 episodes a week and is one of the most prolific podcasters despite having a day job.

I am mostly promoting this because of how informative I find this podcast, but also because Varn is having some health issues and a crisis of faith in "the left". So, if you are interested in theory, check it out.

Emoji might not be 66 million years old, but they are pretty much everywhere. Join Ben and Amory as they explore the history of dinosaur emoji in LGBTQ+ communities and their more recent use as an online dog-whistle for anti-trans activists. What happens when one symbol is used for conflicting reasons? And can the dinosaur emoji avoid redefinition — or extinction?
