Just curious if the defaults are safe enough or privacy focused enough.

I have started using Usenet for videos, and for that it is great. But I really having difficulty finding eBooks/Audiobooks. MAM (torrent) is really the only thing my Readarr is making use of, and I'd like a wider selection.

Do you have suggestions for finding eBooks/Audiobooks on Usenet?

Thanks

singlelogin.me and all custom URL seem to be taken down by the FBI. I haven't read anything about the new bust, but also not anything about new URLs or anything like that. Does anyone have any information?

I was planning on using either the one by kannagi0303 from github or stacher.

update: I have setup the one from github, seems to do the job. Still can't figure out downloading subtitles using gui and using the yt-dlp terminal version for that. Link for what I am using: https://github.com/kannagi0303/yt-dlp-gui

The only things missing from the Github repo are the game assets (kinda like half-life), but those can be obtained by buying the game on steam.

Also asked them if torrenting legal stuff is allowed and they said no.

Every now and then, when I'm connected to a torrent a peer will connect that has a reference to "Swarm Merging" in their name. What is swarm merging?

Below are direct quotes from the filings.

OpenAI

As noted in Paragraph 32, supra, the OpenAI Books2 dataset can be estimated to contain about 294,000 titles. The only “internet-based books corpora” that have ever offered that much material are notorious “shadow library” websites like Library Genesis (aka LibGen), Z-Library (aka B-4ok), Sci-Hub, and Bibliotik. The books aggregated by these websites have also been available in bulk via torrent systems. These flagrantly illegal shadow libraries have long been of interest to the AI-training community: for instance, an AI training dataset published in December 2020 by EleutherAI called “Books3” includes a recreation of the Bibliotik collection and contains nearly 200,000 books. On information and belief, the OpenAI Books2 dataset includes books copied from these “shadow libraries,” because those are the most sources of trainable books most similar in nature and size to OpenAI’s description of Books2.

Meta

Bibliotik is one of a number of notorious “shadow library” websites that also includes Library Genesis (aka LibGen), Z-Library (aka B-ok), and Sci-Hub. The books and other materials aggregated by these websites have also been available in bulk via torrent systems. These shadow libraries have long been of interest to the AI-training community because of the large quantity of copyrighted material they host. For that reason, these shadow libraries are also flagrantly illegal.

This article from Ars Tecnica covers a few more details. Filings are viewable at the law firm's site here.

I'll start. Did you know you can run a headless version of JD2 on a raspberry pi? It's not the greatest thing in the world, but sometimes its nice to throw a bunch of links in there and go to sleep.

Curious as to how many others do this, or if I am just crazy. Anyone else buy physical copies of games and movies and play/watch a pirated version to keep the original product sealed? Do you have a different method or do something similar?

So Lemmy.World got hacked/hijacked today. I was wondering if our community was affected by it as well.

Do we need to change password/email to be certain or not needed?

Pirates, I need opinions running streamio with real-debrid on Firestick 4k. I want to strem 4k movies with HDR or Dolby Vision. Do you think the Firestick 4k is powerful enough for this? Or should I get the 4k Max or the cube? Is them worth it?

I will use in an LG A2 Oled tv. Through a Denon-X1700H receiver

Thank you
