(For Windows software, obviously.)

There used to be a lot of these around years ago. You would get a trial or shareware software title from its original source, find the crack/patch/keygen/serial that goes with it, do the needful, and use it to its full potential.

But all the crack/patch/keygen/serial search engines I knew seem to have shut down. Are any of them left? Where do people get cracks/patches/keygens/serials these days?

I've seen a few throughout my life at friend's houses as a kid during the age of Limewire. Typically they were pretty good quality even though you'd see the odd person get up from their seat or hardcoded subtitles. Lately I've been curious about the history behind them and how they came to be.

Have there been well known release groups similar to the game cracking scene?

Have they always been mostly from one region?

Are they released strategically for one reason or another?

Have there been hidden methods to bust groups after a release such as steganography?

I'd be down to hear any facts about it you find interesting, stories, and if you have any articles or videos about the subject.

Is it considered acceptable to repost movies or TV shows from Usenet that are not available on any open torrent tracker? Obviously, the reposted content will be left unchanged and will have the exact filename as originally uploaded by the initial uploader.

when downloading movies, series and anime they mostly come in those formats. Can they contain virus? if yes, do they get detected with antivirus?

Any PS4 peeps here? I've noticed that PKGs for Rune Factory 4 Special and Rune Factory 5 are not on any of the usual sites. Does anyone know where they could be found?

Greetings from the toliet. I'm looking for something like jellyfin for video games where I could look at the art of the game and see the description and download the game through the web portal.

The only way I can see switching my Luddite family off of the streaming sites is by making it easier. Up until now, I've torrented the old fashioned way, but now I'm moving into plex (ik, ik, jellyfin is better) and want to start using the -arrs. As I understand it, which I'm not sure I do, the -arrs will automatically grab torrents. In my mind, this would eat up a TB pretty quickly. Do you guys all have massive SSDs (heh), or am I misunderstanding?

Ahoy!

I'm a veteran pirate and pretty familiar with the standard *arr stack of resources, but recently decided to run Whisparr.

I also signed up for a new private tracker and got it setup through Jackett and confirmed working in jackett. The problem is, when I manually search for a release in Whisparr it comes back with no results, but searching the same release from jackett (or the tracker directly) I see the release is available.

I think I might know what's going on. I think the tracker has releases dated day/mo/yr and Whisparr is looking for mo/day/yr. This is totally a guess, but it's all I've found so far that might be causing the issue. Was wonder if anyone had a similar issue or a potential resolution.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: So, I think the issue is the date. Looking at the logs Whisparr searches for "release+yr.mo.d" and the tracker has releases listed with "release+d.mo.yr". I confirmed this by trying the search Whisparr was running manually through Jackett. I guess I'll have to see if I can add additional search terms or something or find a different tracker. I'll update with a solution if I find one

Is there a trick to getting indexers to work all the time? They are always failing... What are the best practices to keep things running smoothly?

Feel free to delete this if it isn't allowed.

I've finally invested in a high resolution monitor, which means 1080p content looks pretty bad, especially on a 32 inch display.

I've been using FMovies so far for streaming, but now that 1080 looks like shit on my display, it's sort of lost it's appeal. Are there any ways to have a convenient streaming setup (that doesn't require too much effort for every new movie/show I want to watch) that also supports 1440p or 4k?

Hi everyone. Does anyone know of a guide or software to convert jpeg files into CBZ format? I download a lot of manga but most of the time the files are packed in a zip and they are all jpegs of each page of the manga. This makes it a bit of a pain to read so I would rather organize them and just make the whole volume into one CBZ to read comfortably. Thank you to all who take the time to comment.

From: https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.537900/gov.uscourts.nysd.537900.214.1.pdf

‘“Covered Book” shall mean any in-copyright book or portion thereof, whether in existence as of the date hereof or later created, in which any Plaintiff (or any subsidiary or corporate affiliate of a Plaintiff) (a) owns or controls an exclusive right under the Copyright Act …’

‘the “Internet Archive Parties” … are permanently enjoined and restrained from engaging in any of the following acts in, from or to the United States … the distribution to the public, public display, and/or public performance, of Covered Books in, from or to the United States in Case 1:20-cv-04160-JGK-OTW Document 214-1 Filed 08/11/23 Page 3 of 6 any digital or electronic form, including without limitation on the Internet Archive website (collectively “Unauthorized Distribution”)’

So while backing up the entire lending library might have been a challenge, perhaps the books of just the plaintiff publishers can be backed up?

Some tools:

Might also be an opportunity to punish the publishers by distributing their copyrighted works and hurting their pocket (though it seems they're still yet to prove that piracy actually hurts profits!)

I torrent to my laptop to watch films and shows (VPN with a killswitch). Want a dedicated setup so bought a Raspberry Pi 4b thinking of KODI setup. Is KODI the way to go, or is there a better way to stream or download movies via the Raspbery Pi4? What can you suggest for my home-made box to replace Disney, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc.? Looking for safe pointers and hopefully can search for the "how to" parts if needed.

Hello fellow Sailors, is there a program or similar thing where I can copy a link to an YouTube music video where there are some songs behind each other and it downloads each individualy? Or where you just require the tracklist and the program find each song itself? Thanks in advance

For a moment, it seemed like the streaming apps were the things that could save us from the hegemony of cable TV—a system where you had to pay for a ton of stuff you didn't want to watch so you could see the handful of things you were actually interested in.

I used to use RARBG top lists all the time, is there a good alternative?

To be clear, this is just a joke, and I don't look down on direct downloading. It absolutely has its place, and sometimes I do it myself if it's just faster to download a file directly. Torrenting is just so much more convenient, though, especially when using Jackett's manual search.

How do you acquire sheet music?

There're IMSLP and musescore, but many things are just not there.

Bonus points if you know anything with xenharmonic/microtonal music well-represented.

Hey all. I'm currently trialling out IPTV providers, and one of the things that's putting me off entirely is the lack of decent Mac apps, specifically ones that allow for Xtream logins and not only m3u.

The provider I'm testing out suggested Smarters Lite from the iPad store – it runs fine, but it fullscreens with black borders down the sides.

Aside from that, I've tried IPTVnator (FOSS, so that's great) but doesn't actually display the content.

The only thing that works great for individual channel viewing is using Stremio with an add-on, but there's no EPG interface there, so no channel hopping and other features.

Any suggestions?

ETA: compatibility with Apple Silicon (M1/M2) chips would be vital too.
