First off, I'd normally ask this question on a datahoarding forum, but this one is way more active than those and I'm sure there's considerable overlap.

So I have a Synology DS218+ that I got in 2020. So it's a 6 year old model by now but only 4 into its service. There's absolutely no reason to believe it'll start failing anytime soon, and it's completely reliable. I'm just succession planning.

I'm looking forward to my next NAS, wondering if I should get the new version of the same model again (whenever that is) or expand to a 4 bay.

The drives are 14 TB shucked easy stores, for what it's worth, and not even half full.

What are your thoughts?

This shit ass site proposes a paying plan for downloading student notes and I'm so fucking tired at the idea that they basically got a monopoly on it. How can I download the docs?

Hello! I'm trying to sign up to itatorrent.xyz but after typing username, mail and password, I get a "capcha error". Do any of you managed to sign up?

I might be asking a rhetorical question here but I was curious as to the overall consensus on physical media. Do support it because, unlike streaming, media can't take away what you've payed for? or are you against because it's a waste of money when you can "acquire" it through "alternative means?" I'm also thinking about getting a 4K Blu Ray player for when my wife and I get a new place; preferably one that can also play self hosted media. What do you guys think?

Do we have a place somewhere to post/request invites for private torrent trackers?

finally got access to CGPeers and snatched a copy of NukeX, I'm still worried that Foundry will still somehow snatch my hardware ID and send me a threatening email. I've already wiped Nuke and all related files from my hardware and nuked my foundry account, anything else I could do in order to shield myself a bit more before I install the crack?

I'm getting an android tablet soon (will be a present and a little birdie told it to me). Nothing fancy, just some mid-range 10 inch one with basic features. I'm planning to mainly use it for comic books, but while I'm at it might as well watch movies on it.

So my question is: any good setup/apps/guides for movie streaming or downloading I should know about? I don't have a home server, or anything, usually just torrent what I want on my desktop PC and watch it there, but I have zero experience with pirating movies on android.

I will definitely not use the tablet for social media, google services, etc so I can do with it whatever I want, it's purely for comics/ebooks/movies.

So I have Debrid + Stremio and Torrentino; I'm wondering how unchained will help me. Does it add links or do I have to manually add links to my library.

I am about to buy one. What do you recommend for a jellyfin setup with it?

So far I got:

Additional Q: if it can upscale 1080 to 4k, does that mean I don't need my 4k collection anymore? It sounds too good to be true.

I have a Jellyfin instance on my local server which I forward to the public web via a cloudflare tunnel. I'm not sure how secure it is, and I keep getting random requests from all over the world. It's my first experience maintaining something on a public domain so I may be worrying about something obvious, but some advice would still be appreciated.

My SSL/TLS encryption mode appears to be "Full".

Dell Glover manufactured CDs for a living, but he began to wonder: if the MP3 was just as good, why bother with the CD?

And here are my qBittorrent stats. I left my computer running for 6 days, I never thought I'd get this far! But that electricity bill's gonna sting...

It's good to give back to the community.

EDIT: To any three-letter agencies who might be reading this post, I was uploading Linux ISOs and scientific research papers. I would never dream of uploading copyrighted material...

Off topic, but ownership is a hot topic here, right?

iFixit has petitioned the FTC to write standardized rules for right to repair. A federal ruling on what companies must do to respect your stuff. Your chance to inform policy is here.

Maybe you're thinking, "what difference can I make?" However, the FTC must read all comments that aren't marked as spam or copypasta. Now is your time. The request for comment period ends February 2nd, 2024.

There are less than 6 days left to make your voice heard. Tell the FTC what you think. Let them know about the hardships you've faced trying to fix your stuff. Bring up your concerns about the difficulty in repairing you phone or laptop. Rant about "you'll own nothing," if you like. They want to hear from you and they need ammunition to make the ruling stick.

Your voice matters. Make a difference, the chance comes very rarely. I shot my shot, now what about you?

Hello! I set up jellyfin+sonarr+radarr+prowlarr+qbittorrent in my home server, and it all works well. the only problem is that I'm storing my files on a usb HDD with exFAT filesystem, and it does not support (AFAIK) hardlinks. due to this, sonarr/radarr are copying the files from the download folder (on the internal SSD with xfs) to the USB HDD.

  1. do I understand correctly what's going on? XD
  2. what is your setup or what do you suggest to do to avoid this? Ideally, I would like to download the files on the internal SSD and then move the files to the external HDD, and then hardlink it into the download folder to keep seeding it. If this is not possible, it would also be a good solution to download directly inside the USB drive, and then hardlink it into the jellyfin library.

any tip is greatly welcome! thank in advance fellow pirates!

I just went to watch a movie and my server said it wasn't there, so I went and check the PC folders and all of my movies are gone. Not in any of the recycling bins, not anywhere, just gone. What would have caused this? How do I stop it from happening again? It's been working fine for months then this just happened.

this isn't about anything specific, this is just a general question.

i always assumed that multiplayer wouldn't work on pirated copies of games, or at most you'd have to play on specially configured servers. but the other day i saw a thread about a game where online multiplayer works even with pirated copies, and now i'm curious about how often that happens.

i understand that every game is different, and i want to know: what are your experiences with online multiplayer in pirated games?

I wanted to get my mom YouTube Premium for her birthday but don't want to pay the ridiculous annual price for my country (especially since she mostly just watches YouTube shorts). She uses an iPhone so trying to get adblocker would be too much of a hassle, especially if it stops working. She won't be able to figure out how to fix it.

I've tried using account sellers in the past but the last one I used had some issues and now I can't add my mom's YouTube account to a different family account for another year.

I am able to use a VPN to buy premium for cheaper from a different country but they require a credit card for that country. Is it possible to get a virtual debit/credit card for different countries?

BOTW and TOTK error - every other games is working

Please help me with this! When I try to start this 2 game it gives me an error "the software was closed because an error occurred".

I have an Oled Switch with modchip and every game what I tried works, except the Botw and Totk.

Newest atmosphere, newest sw, newest sigpatches. I tried to start maintenance mode and restart, delete the games, the saves, the orphaned files in dbi.

I tried to install it through tinfoil shop and through dbi (everything was green).

I don't know what is the problem and what to do :(

Edit: A couple times I've said eBook while I actually meant Audiobook. I've learned that Spotify has a 15 hour limit per month for their free 'included in premium' audiobooks. However these are the two books I listened to for free, and even rounding up to 13 hours it doesn't make sense, unless they count accidental chapter skips which weren't actually listened to. But it's clear now that I know about the 15 hour limit, that they are not counting the time listening to paid audiobooks.

First book I listened to for free:

Second book I listened to for free:

OG post:

I purchased 3 eBooks in the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy series (2 came free) and I'm on the final book. 20 minutes left in the last book and this is what Spotify tells me.

I'm over the edge now. I've been putting it off too long. I have a nice NUC I purchased about a year ago.

I'm tech inclined, 20 years of hobbyism, know the linux command line well. Work in IT consulting. But I'm busy. Very busy, and unmotivated to do things like hours of research and toying with settings getting things to work, if I ever have the time.

But this is the start of my new personal revolution.

I'll read the wiki and have read about Sonarr, etc, and I also want movies and shows, but is there anything specifically for eBooks? Looks like Readarr is my best bet? Stripping the DRM of already purchased (and free with Spotify 'Premium') books to share on a seedbox is also something I'm willing to take requests on. Is there a way to rip from Spotify if you have a premium account? And what's the best Android eBook reader (the last 3-4 I tried sucked with pirated eBooks)?

I know I'm sounding like a noob asking everything to be handed to me right now, but I am willing to put in the research and welcome and highly appreciate anyone with tips to point me in the right directions.

For someone who wants to maintain a library of movies, I see the first two links in movies megathread total to 34TB worth of content.

What type of storage solutions do you folks use or recommend for large movie collections like this?

Do you have server racks? Which ones would you recommend?

In general, I'd appreciate recommendations for it, but a third party youtube app would be great.

I just installed jellyfin via a one line docker install which worked great.

Edit: Tizen OS is horrible. The whole OS is one huge ad.

The settings are spread across everywhere.

It has multiple different views for apps and recommendations and movies. Everything is mixed together into one giant swamp in one view.
