Any other ‘experts’ want to throw their opinion out there?

Who else is going to a match over the next few weeks? Or is the spurs and hammers going to be bigger than the women?

Perth motorists will be able to use the new Mitchell Freeway extension to Alkimos from Monday.

The $232 million freeway extension was officially unveiled at a ceremony on Sunday and has extended the road by 5.6 kilometres north from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road, creating new freeway access points in Perth's growing northern suburbs.

In a world-first study, we have used caves to show the decades-long decline in rainfall in south-west Australia has reduced the replenishment of groundwater in the region to an 800-year low.

The region's drying climate means rainfall may no longer be reliably replenishing its groundwater.

In caves, we can directly observe water on its way to becoming groundwater.

Preferential flow is an important mechanism for rainfall recharge of groundwater.

Groundwater supplies three-quarters of the water used in the region and future groundwater use is expected to increase.~___~

Looking for tasty recommendations. Can you list the Restaurant name - Cuisine type - Suburb of your new favourites? (Bonus points for unique flavours that Perth has not seen previously)

The new Indonesian restaurant at Ah Beng inside Carousel is making some great flavours, similar to Suku Indonesian in Fremantle.

Not telling you my budget or other needs. I also refuse to conduct an internet search on a real estate website.

Also I'm coming here on holiday at the start of last month, can you make me an itinerary?

Sorry I was having withdrawals from r/perth.

Please now enjoy some photos of badly parked vehicles instead.

This has hit the news previously but rather than post an article, I thought it'd be better just to link straight to the source. Since they aren't really "selling" anything, it passes my personal ethical standards for a link (if anyone has any thoughts, let me know).

ULUU’s a safe, natural polymer – a type of PHA that’s durable yet truly biodegradable, even in cold, dark conditions such as the ocean (in several months in those conditions, so please dispose wisely).

It’s produced via fermentation – like brewing beer – using saltwater microbes, which reduces fresh water reliance (we use seawater instead!) as well as the need for costly & harmful chemicals and the energy-intensive, slow equipment sterilisation processes others perform.

In contrast, ULUU’s seawater process unlocks “open and continuous fermentation”, where sterilisation downtime is reduced, providing the potential for major yield & cost improvements, while reducing associated GHG emissions.

bad timing with the rising cost of living. 2 days WFH is better than none at all I guess.

WA's environmental watchdog is looking for a potential culprit behind an engine oil spill which is impacting and killing birds in Perth's southern waterways.

"If it's actually a commercial enterprise that we're able to identify as being responsible for this, there are some significant penalties for an incident of this nature … up to $500,000 as a maximum penalty for causing pollution."

A number of birds were found covered in oil at Richmond Lake in Rockingham. ( ) "[When] they're waterlogged and can't fly, if they try to roost here at Lake Richmond the foxes will get them.

"At this point in time we're looking for, I guess, a landlocked source," he said. DWER's Pollution Watch has not received any related reports of potential oil spills or source areas for the surrounding areas.

The new discovery of ancient stone artifacts at an underwater spring off the Western Australia Pilbara coast has confirmed the location is a submerged archaeological site where more ancient Aboriginal artifacts are likely hidden beneath the sea.

The artifacts, which are thought to be at least 9,000 years old, have been discovered at the Flying Foam Passage underwater spring in Murujuga The passage was occupied in the Late Pleistocene and Early Holocene before it was drowned by sea level rise.

Flying Foam Passage is one of two ancient cultural sites where researchers previously uncovered artifacts through the Deep History of Sea Country project, through a series of surveys that provided evidence of Aboriginal activity preserved on what is now the seabed.

"We've now identified five stone artifacts at Flying Foam Passage and confirmed the freshwater spring is definitely an archaeological site. We had a narrow window of 40 minutes for each dive when current speeds were low enough to search the passage and our scientific divers focused on locations where fortunately the cultural artifacts were waiting to be discovered."

It's not your imagination, it is freaking cold this morning!

Even have a layer of ice on my car windscreen:

What would be different if Albany had become the state Capital?

I imagine Perth would be bigger. The central location to agriculture and the large river would still act as a pull for population. But i think we'd have been more focused on better/numerous transport connections in the southwest.

Has anybody checked the Lightscape in Kings Park out yet? Is it worth a look?

I'm a sound engineer, have been for 25 years or so. It's a field that was traditionally the home of VB swilling, winnie-red smoking, greasy-haired stereotypes. For real. In the warehouse of a production company I worked at as a younger lad, this was written on the wall: "Roadie's mantra - if it bleeds, fuck it. If it doesn't bleed, chuck it in the truck."

But these days it's a high-tech field comprising a stimulating and complex mix of networking, clever design, 3D modelling, problem-solving, art, music of course, and very little in the way of fistfights and drug overdoses.

I mainly worked with original bands throughout my career, and I'm not a fan of gross commercialisation. The federated social media space feels a little bit like how the internet used to be when I was little. When USEnet was a big thing for social interaction and not so much for warez.

How about you?

I can't see why an independent report wouldn't be part and parcel of the scheme every five or ten years anyway. Makes sense to get another, perhaps more 'disinterested' party's assessment, where there are pretty clear costs to the benefits.

Hi there,

In relation to Lodion's post over on the Meta, https://aussie.zone/post/14302 . I'd like to volunteer to be a moderator for the Perth community. I've read through the Instance rules, and i believe I can apply these in a constant and fair minded manner. I also realise, if the communities grow, the rules may become more complex, and am ready for that if need be.

Signed, Gorgritch_umie_killa ;)
