The Patriots are finalizing a deal to send quarterback Mac Jones to the Jaguars, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday.

Books have Stroud as heavy favorite to win OROTY. Part of it is his statistical performance, part of it is how good the tape looks, and part of it is Houston's record. If Houston's defense was worse or the close games swung the other way off say a RB mispay, is Stroud still OROY? Puka and Gibbs are the distant contenders.

I get that he has a lot of great weapons around him, which helps; and people like to talk about yards after carry to buffer his stats. But even if you take that away, he’s still number 1 in air yards per attempt. And the only 3 losses he had came when he was missing a primary target AND critical pass protection from Trent Williams.

The one time in his NFL career that he had an opportunity to lead a game winning drive against the Browns, he put them in a position to win, were it not for the missed FG. And he performed amazingly well in the two playoff games he was able to finish. I mean, if not for the drop, this play shows just how much he balls out when needed.

For those of us who have been watching the 49ers week in and week out for the last few years, Purdy turned this offense around. They were really good before, but as soon as Jimmy went down that last time, the offense immediately shifted into a higher gear. It’s clear that he’s not simply being carried by the talent around him.

What am I missing?

The last time the Dolphins beat a team with a winning record* was Week 3 of the 2022 season against the 2-0 Bills.

The team with the second longest losing streak against winning teams is the Raiders, who's last win came in Week 13 of the 2022 season against the 6-5 Chargers.

Only 6 teams remain without a win against a team with a record over .500 in the 2023 season:

  • Miami Dolphins (Last win was Week 3, 2022)
  • Las Vegas Raiders (Last win was Week 13, 2022)
  • Carolina Panthers (Last win was Week 14, 2022)
  • Los Angeles Chargers (Last win was Week 15, 2022)
  • New York Giants (Last win was Week 15, 2022)
  • New Orleans Saints (Last win was Week 17, 2022)

* Record at the time of the match-up, not the current record or the record at the end of the 2022 season.

DK Metcalf is a giant of a man who can run super fast. So in honor of DK Metcalf's 22.23 mph run this week, here are the top-20 ball carriers so far this year BY MOMENTUM*:

https://preview.redd.it/he8w428d034c1.png?width=1800&format=png&auto=webp&s=eacb73e1552d90272edc9d64554042343c8767ae

Results - The results show us what our eyes already saw: DK is a big dude that REALLY gets moving. Remember three years ago when he hit 22.64 chasing down Budda Baker after an interception? That was even faster than this run! This dude is huge and fast. For comparison: a 2018 Honda Civic weighing around 2,800 lbs and driving 2 mph has a momentum of 1136 kg.m/s. So this guy is basically a slow-moving car. That's nuts.

But DK isn't alone up there at the top and that's pretty cool. Jonnu Smith and Derrick Henry are both a little bigger than DK and got moving almost as fast this year in weeks 9 and 6, respectively. Their total momentum comes in just a little behind DK.

Then there's a bit of a jump in the top momentum and it's driven by player weight. DK, Jonnu, and Derrick are the heaviest guys on this list, weighing 236, 247, and 247, respectively. That next group of guys (Hall, Barnes, Fields, Robinson) are the next heaviest guys on my list and all in the 220s for weight.

Finally, there are some notable absences from this chart. Even though the Miami crew of Tyreek Hill, Devon Achane, and Raheem Mostert have had the top fastest plays this year (after DK's run this week, that is), their weights are all under 200 lbs and that puts them in the mid-800s in kg.m/s. For comparison, that's much closer to a 2008 Smart Fortwo moving at 2 mph (~750 kg.m/s). See, now I'm wondering if I'm even afraid to get hit by these guys!

I'm going to stop before I make any outlandish claims about the survivability of getting run over by a full-speed Devon Achane. I'm about to enter that foolhardy territory of which animals you could beat in a fight. I'll just leave with saying congratulations to DK Metcalf! Way to have some awesome and terrifying top momentum! And good luck this week to the Miami offensive speedsters! You'll need to either hit 27 mph or gain 50 lbs to catch up to DK. Whichever you choose, I believe in you!

*Methodology: I took the top 5 weekly ball carrier speeds as reported by Next Gen Stats and multiplied it by the player weight as reported by the team roster. For the cars I looked at a range of values from the manufacturers.
