Reed was arrested in March and was charged with:

• Second degree kidnapping, class four felony
• Child abuse - knowingly/recklessly any injury other than SBI, class one misdemeanor
• Menacing - threat/physical action/fear of SBI, class three misdemeanor
• Harassment - strike, shove, kick class three misdemeanor

According to court documents, all other charges, except for the child abuse charge, were dismissed.

A family member has alleged that Reed was the boyfriend of a woman accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a teen boy and continuing to contact him despite a judge ordering her to have no contact with him.

During court, the judge acknowledged that Reed was romantically involved with 31-year-old Kristen Wessel.

The Communist Party of Cuba is currently drafting a Families Code which breaks all tradition, allowing families to express themselves in whatever form of self-organization they wish, with full state recognition and protection. I will include a few of the key points in this post, but I would highly recommend you all read the full text of the official statement (in English) here.

The draft goes on to describe a family–

The members of the families are bound to perform family and societial duties on the basis of love, affection, consideration, solidarity, fraternity, co-participation, protection, responsibility and mutual respect.

In other words, a family is not successful based on its structure or the number of members. A family is a social structure that recognizes itself as such and takes on the duties and responsibilities it entails.

The draft continues, also enshrining people with the right to build their own family beyond just blood relation–

Many times, people say that “we do not choose our family. It is what it is. If you like it or not, well, there is no choice.” Although it is not possible to change blood relation objectively speaking, this is a very relative statement when it comes to the subjective aspect of it. Truth is that, beyond the family environment a person grows up in, everyone has the right to form their own family, with their own particularities. A family in which a human being can feel truly fulfilled and happy. As varied as the family structures that surround us, or more, are the ideas that people have as to what they call a family.

Precisely, the first family right provided in the bill of the new Families Code is the opportunity to build one. Of course, the principles on which a family should be built are clearly stated in the new bill and they all have a central idea, dignity is the supreme value when it comes to the relationships within the family. Hence, if the family we want, the one we dream about, the one that meets our expectations as human beings, is indeed chosen and built, there is no doubt it will always be our shelter and support.

In summation–

The bill of the new Families Code, if approved, will be an instrument of profound scope that will be among the most advanced currently in force in our continent. And this says a lot about the path the Cuban society has taken. Under the principle that love is the first condition a family needs to exist, the new Families Code has the merit of broadening the concepts of inclusion we have known so far, of putting a name to what we could not practically name one day, of moving forward toward the naturalization of family structures whose status in matter of rights have remained uncertain for years. This document, of which any Cuban who has read it can speak at length, is a major qualitative leap towards one of the primary targets of our social system: to fight all types of discrimination. This code is a mirror that truthfully reflects the families that exist in Cuba today.

The Biden administration on Friday said it has resumed plans for oil and gas development on federal lands, a move that could break a pledge Joe Biden made while campaigning for president.

The plan calls for the government to lease fewer acres for drilling than initially proposed, charge steeper royalties to oil and gas companies, and assess the climate impact of developing the acreage.

The proposal was quickly denounced by several environmental groups, with one calling it "a reckless failure of climate leadership." Oil industry groups praised the move but said it did not go far enough.

During a campaign event in Hudson, New Hampshire, in February 2020, Biden told the audience: "And by the way — no more drilling on federal lands, period. Period, period, period.”

Friday's announcement would make roughly 144,000 acres available for oil and gas drilling through a series of lease sales, an 80% reduction from the footprint of land that had been under evaluation for leasing, the Interior Department said in a statement.

It would also require companies to pay royalties of 18.75% of the value of extracted oil and gas products, up from 12.5%.

"How we manage our public lands and waters says everything about what we value as a nation, said Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, who added that the move would "begin to reset how and what we consider to be the highest and best use of Americans' resources for the benefit of all current and future generations.”

South Lake Tahoe, California — DNA evidence now shows that a 500-pound black bear the public had nicknamed "Hank the Tank" — blamed for breaking into dozens of homes across the Tahoe Keys area — may be innocent.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife on Thursday said there were three other bears responsible for damaging more than 30 properties that were originally linked solely to Hank.

The agency will soon begin trapping bears in the South Lake Tahoe area to tag the animals and collect evidence for genetic analysis. The bears will be released in a "suitable habitat" and the agency said no trapped animals will be euthanized as part of the project.

The bears are responsible for more than 150 incident reports in the region straddling Northern California and Nevada, including a break-in at a residence in the Tahoe Keys neighborhood last week.

Fish and Wildlife has concluded that Hank may not even be responsible for any of the break-ins over the last seven months, officials said on Thursday.

"Hank is not the culprit," Bear League Director Ann Bryant told CBS San Francisco.

"Just like they say in the murder shows -- you can't argue with DNA!" she laughed.

One of the bears smashed a window Friday and squeezed into a house while the residents were at home, CBS Sacramento reported. Police responded and banged on the outside of the house until the animal left out the back door and disappeared into the woods.

Hank, also known as Jake or Yogi or simply Big Guy, was what one wildlife official described as a "severely food habituated bear" that has "lost all fear of people" and thinks of them as a food source.

"What's problematic about this bear is how large it is," Peter Tira, a spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, told SF Gate on Sunday. "It's learned to use that size and strength to break into a number of occupied residences, bursting through the garage door or front door."
