QUEST Global will focus on a more detailed assessment of health economic outcomes, including the potential for medicinal cannabis to reduce the number of medications a patient requires and their need for healthcare services.

Australians living with one of 200 chronic conditions may now be eligible to participate in what is expected to become the world's largest study into the impact of medicinal cannabis treatment on health economic outcomes and quality of life for patients suffering from chronic health conditions.

The QUEST Global study, led by Curtin University and sponsored by ASX-listed medicinal cannabis supplier Little Green Pharma, will assess whether medicinal cannabis reduces the economic impact of chronic disease, by reducing both the number of medications a patient requires and their need for healthcare services.

"The increased focus on health economics in QUEST Global will mean ongoing costs will be analysed and provide a framework for thinking about how Australia should allocate its limited health resources to meet people's demands and needs for health care services, health promotion and prevention."

HIF CEO Justin James said the not-for-profit health insurer had enjoyed a partnership with Little Green Pharma since 2020 and was proud to continue supporting studies into the health benefits of medicinal cannabis.

Such approvals are difficult to keep track of, with a complex web of state and federal approvals requiring expert understanding.

Despite government promises to overhaul environmental laws, fossil fuel approvals are difficult to keep track of and get made with very little fanfare.

Tanya Plibersek's three fossil fuel approvals, two coal and one gas, ranks ahead of the six coal mines that Keith Pitt approved as environment minister in the last 12 months of the Morrison government.

Plibersek's office has declined to comment on whether they expect their fossil fuel approvals will match or exceed their predecessors within the current term.

Santos' wins fracking approval for Towrie gas development from Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek.

These approvals provided by the Federal Environment Minister do not represent the total new fossil fuel projects which have been given approvals to commence in Australia lately.

The Federal Minister for Environment has approval powers over projects where the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation is triggered.
