The ABC understands the educator was allegedly observed by the childcare centre grabbing the child by the neck and head, repeatedly smothering his face with a cot mattress and pillow, pulling his head back, hitting him on the head, putting her foot on his face and kicking him across the floor.

She was also allegedly seen at various times shaking him, throwing him onto a beanbag, lifting him by one arm, mock punching near his face, throwing a playpen at him, and forcefully pushing and throwing him down while he slept.

I came across this after someone I know made some claims about pedophilia prevalence I found unbelievable. Leading me to the survey.

Surveys are hard, there's always some percentage of people that say strange things, and self reports could be over or underestimates of prevalence.

I think that the way the results bundle 19 year old who watch a porn video that had a 17 year old in it, and 50 year old that watched a porn video of a 5 year old together is needlessly inflammatory. While neither is good I think culturally we are generally vastly more worried about what leads to the second, or even what makes the 50 year old look for 17 year olds (i.e. cases where the 19 year old didn't grow out of it).

Still, some of these stats are extremely troubling to me, and I'm interested in what people make of it.

In short:

Bendigo Bank says it plans to close its agency locations across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

The bank says its agency model, established 30 years ago, is no longer viable with decreasing customer use playing a role.

What's next?

Bendigo Bank plans to close the 28 agency locations in October.

Note: branches =/= agencies:

Bendigo Bank has announced that it will be shutting down its agency model, which allowed customers to access banking services from smaller locations such as newsagencies [...] and "enabled the bank to offer limited banking services via third parties in areas where there was not enough customer demand to sustain a branch".

Several Australian women allegedly forced to submit to invasive strip searches at Doha's Hamad airport have been given the go-ahead by the federal court to sue Qatar Airways after a "long and stressful struggle".

The five women, who cannot be legally named, were among hundreds of women alleged to have been forcibly removed from aircraft at Doha on 2 October 2020 as officials searched for the mother of a newborn found in a bathroom at the terminal.

What the fuck.

Klan’s report revealed a serious conflict of interest in [Segal's] role as Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism in Australia.

Several independent journalists – including this masthead – sent enquiries to Ms Segal, but none received a response; however, Ms Segal did have time to respond to The Age and Sydney Morning Herald and Sun-Herald today, Sunday, July 13, commencing her urgent ‘damage control’.
