Chinese mercenaries are said to have reached Kyaukphyu following fierce clashes in the region, known for its Chinese-backed projects.

Chaung U People's Defence Force released a statement indicating that on March 4, fighting occurred between the combined resistance forces and junta soldiers along the Monywa-Mandalay highway in the Sagaing Region. The clashes led to the deaths of 17 junta troops, among them a second lieutenant, and the destruction of two military vehicles by fire.

The Myanmar junta conducted an airstrike on Net Saung village, located west of Taungtha in Mandalay Region, killing six people, including three women, according to local sources.

Myanmar’s junta leader, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, is set to travel to Russia in the coming days at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by the junta-controlled Myanmar Television on 28 February.
