Mullvad VPN

Due to the new "online safety act" in my country, I'm planning on getting a VPN. I'm thinking of getting either Mullvad or Proton due to them sounding like the most trustworthy ones, but I'm torn between which one to get.

Mullvad is apparently very private and secure, which is good, however I've also heard that a lot of websites will be blocked if you use Mullvad, which is bad because the main reason I want a VPN is to avoid censorship and to continue using social media. It also, from what I've heard, doesn't support streaming, which isn't the end of the world but would be inconvenient.

Proton sounds very user-friendly, and apparently fewer sites block it. It's also cheaper than Mullvad. However, I already use ProtonMail, and I don't want to "put all my eggs in one basket", so to speak - I don't want to get into the habit of using one company for everything. I've also heard that ProtonVPN isn't as good for privacy, though I'm not sure how true this is.

I'm also a Linux user, and I'm not sure how well either of these VPNs work on Linux devices.

If anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it.

So as some of you might know here in the UK we have a online safety filter coming. I'm a grown ass thirty something I'm not giving my face or id or payment details to sites I don't pay to subscribe to in the first place.

Could someone explain the process for making sure when I use mullvad for Reddit, Tumblr, x (twitter) and discord that I don't get banned from them if they think I'm not a real person? Specifically for my android and MacBook

like title said ive used nord for years but lately ive been having issues and the subscription price keeps going up each time i renew. before i switched to nord I was using PIA but i switched to nord because of specific featured PIA did not have at the time.

I generally use my VPN for basic security, sometimes for geolocation (people say nord is best for this but idk) but I also torrent. it might be biased as im asking in the mullvad subreddit but i was wondering if anyone was a nord sub why switch??

Hi I recently add Mullvad VPN to my Mac Mini and my IPhone both already connected to Tailscale . On IPhone, I cannot have both connected ; It is either Tailscale , or Mullvad. Is it a normal ? Merci

I'm new Mullvad user, and I'd like to use VPN with inclusive split tunneling. The official app only supports exclusive split tunneling which doesn't fit on my usage. Most of the content I want to access is available to me.

I trid to connect to VPN without the official APP using wireguard config file. The default behavior is to route everything to VPN. By removing the AllowedIPs field of the config file, it results on no Internet access at all. I bind the qbittorrent client to the VPN interface to test.

I have mullvad running in a headless install on a dietpi for a headless qbtorrent on the same SOC, but I'm stuck on "Connecting" in status -v. I've tried wireguard and openvpn protocols with no luck, any chance anyone on here could help resolve my issue?

Is it actually possible to use Adguard and Mullvad apps together on Android? I have spent the past 2 hours trying all the different methods described on Reddit, Github, the Adguard website, and the Mullvad website. Nothing has worked. Some posts say you can use the Apps together, some say you can only use the Adguard DNS with Mullvad. Which is the correct answer? I like using Adguard because of it's features besides DNS filtering, but it seems to be impossible to get the two to work together.

I have a Pixel 9 pro xl with Android version 15. Both Adguard and Mullvad apps are up to date as well.

Hey all,

Ever since I updated my Mac to macOS 16 Beta, Mullvad VPN has stopped working properly. The VPN connection appears to establish correctly, but I can’t access any websites or even ping google.com. It’s clearly a DNS issue.

I’ve already confirmed it’s DNS-related because nothing resolves when Mullvad is active. I came across a suggestion to disable FaceTime calls on macOS as a workaround, so I tried that, but unfortunately it didn’t help.

Naturally, I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Mullvad, but the issue keeps coming back every time I reboot my Mac. The DNS provided by Mullvad simply doesn’t work consistently on macOS 16 Beta, and it breaks my connection every time.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas for a fix or a DNS workaround that plays nicely with Mullvad on this version of macOS?

Okay, so I’m mostly using public WiFi at home right now so I’ve been using Mullvad VPN. When I use the DNS settings from public WiFi I get that message about the network blocking encrypted DNS traffic, so I changed the settings to a Quad9 setup. This seems to work at first, as Quad9 says it’s connected on their website, and when I turn on Mullvad it says there’s no leaks and the connection is good. Plus I don’t get the message about the network blocking encrypted traffic.

The issue seems to be when I leave home and I cross different networks, and then come back into my WiFi’s reception. The public WiFi rejects my DNS settings when I leave home and come back, so I tried resolving this by customizing Mullvad with my Quad9 DNS settings, to see if they stay binded. Well that doesn’t work either because then Mullvad says I have DNS leaks.

My question is, what are the best DNS settings to use so Mullvad not only stays connected at all times moving between WiFi networks and cellular data, but won’t be rejected once I come back into my home? I know this seems convoluted but I had my banking info stolen a few months back, and I suspect it was from using public WiFi all the time. So that’s why I’m now hyper vigilant about staying private.

Is there any way to use NextDNS with NordVPN? I want to block adult content and force safe search using NextDNS on Chrome browser, but it doesn’t seem to work, when the DoH is set in Chrome, the Internet does not work and when the VPN is ON, the DNS filter does not work Is there a workaround or a setting to make both work together?

Coming from PrivateVPN. Didn't need to use their apps to connect to their servers. Just directly connected using windows VPN client.

Is there any way to do this? I tried connecting with the account #, no password and their server address but no luck.

We either have to use their app or openVPN / Wireguard?

I have been using mullvad for more than 2 years and everything was perfect until a few months ago, my subscription is ending in a few days and I would like to know what other VPN options do you recommend? I'm looking for it to be log-free and have good speed as well as a vision similar to Mullvad. Obviously I've already tried Proton VPN but I want to know what other options exist or are recommended.

Hello! I host dedicated servers from home (mainly game servers).

I have to have my port open so people can connect but I want to have a VPN on my router.

Is there a way to allow my server to not be blocked or allowed to bypass or skip the VPN from the router?

If not I’ll just stick to per device VPN.

Hey all, im having an issue with my Windows 11 machine, it's running insider version 25H2 26200.56 if that helps at all.

I'm unsure if it's my wifi adapter driver or maybe a bad firewall rule, but my Mullvad client refuses to connect on WireGuard, but open VPN works just fine. I prefer using wireguard for the fancy bits, so if anyone has any helpful advice, that'd be swell, thanks y'all.

SGX enclaves are private areas of memory that essentially act as a secure black box and not even the operators of the service can see what’s happening inside.

But interestingly, "A pivot by Intel in 2021 resulted in the deprecation of SGX from the 11th and 12th generation Intel Core processors, but development continues on Intel Xeon for cloud and enterprise use". (suggesting Intel is keeping SGX on servers)

Has Mullvad ever considered using SGX? Or future plans to use it? Only asking 'cause it's been touted as a great feature for VPN.

Been using Mullvad for years, generally happy with the experience. I've had the odd captcha pop up on random websites (including Google) now and then, but since a month or so, they have increased dramatically. Is there anything I can do?

I have tried multiple different VPN servers, but haven't found one that doesn't keep causing captchas.
