I’ve been trying to get Mullvad to work for over 6 hours and I have completely lost patience.

I’m on Windows 11 and Mullvad won’t connect to any server it just sits there trying and eventually fails. If I run Mullvad as administrator, it runs in the background (confirmed in Task Manager), but the GUI never appears

I have tried disabling my antivirus completely (via GUI and killing all background processes), reinstalling Mullvad multiple times, deleting leftover files and folders, using Task Scheduler to launch Mullvad with admin rights and GUI

none of these worked

All I want is for the VPN to actually connect. I paid for it and just want it to work.

I installed OpenWRT on an old Fritzbox 7360, wich has no WAN port. The Fritzbox is connected to a main router via LAN1, which provides the internet connection. The OpenWRT router has a static IP address and the main router acts as a gateway. I also have a Pihole as a DNS server on the first router. All DNS requests go through it, regardless of whether a DNS server is entered in OpenWRT or not.

I configured the Mullvad VPN service according to Mullvad's OpenWRT instructions on their website. In LuCi under Network > Interfaces I can see that MULLVAD_VPN has both TX and RX traffic. However, all internet traffic has no connection to Mullvad.

OpenWRT is new territory for me, does anyone have any advice?

As the title says, when I share my screen on Discord the quality is basically unusable. At first, I thought it was a driver issue, but after four days, disabling the VPN made it work perfectly again. Just to mention it in case it helps with my issue I'm using the latest version of Fedora

Hi,

I have a strange problem with Wireguard and Mullvad.

I have serveral clients on my network (Windows, MacOS, iOS, Linux), and most of them work fine without obfuscation enabled. Only my Linux-clients won't send packages unless I enable obfuscation (shadowsocks). They connect fine (the Mullvad-app says they're connected), but they're not sending any packages (no website works and "ping 8.8.8.8" reports 100% package loss). One system even dual-boots to Windows and Linux, and while it works in Windows, it does not work in Linux (one the same machine!).

The reason I want it to work without obfuscation is because I have an UNRAID-Server that does not support the official Mullvad-app and needs to use the normal Wireguard-client, which can't use obfuscation and therefore doesn't work.

I'm on a big ISP and I can't find any reports of VPN-blocking. All clients are directly connected to the ISPs router, nothing special. I tried toying with the MTU (1280), ports, endpoints and IPv4/v6 in the Mullvad-App to no avail. Only enabling obfuscation works.

Any ideas what else I could try? Thanks!

Original Title: I'm sure there's tons of posts like this and I already found some servers to be working, but I'm travelling to see my girlfriend in China and I was wondering, besides from some servers in New York and Washington and San Fransisco, what are some other servers you have found to work?

I'm gathering all the servers I can to see which ones work and which don't, she can test them for me as she is already in China and so far we have found some New York servers and Washington ones to work. San Fransisco had a server which worked but it was a bit finicky.

edit: if it helps at all, I'm travelling to Shanghai specifically!

Hi,

Right now I have split tunnelling enabled for accessing my college account. They do not permit MullVad for logging in. I installed Firefox so that I can do my school work and have a split tunnel with Firefox. I'm trying to do it for Microsoft Outlook, but when I added the Outlook exe file, Outlook is still on Mullvad.

Do any of you know how I can setup a split tunnel with Outlook?

If I use mullvads private DNS with adblock function, in my android, I still get ads in all apps I tried.

If I use another private DNS-provider with same function it blocks ads in those same ads, so it's not the private DNS function in the phone that is broken.

Is it same for everyone or just me?

Is it that the filter isn't updated very often? I see the page regarding the mullvad private DNS was updated just a month ago, so it's not like the service has been created and forgotten.

PS. Youtube app is NOT one of the tested apps. Mentioning since YT always comes up in adblock related threads and is a whole different beast when it comes to adblock on android, and irrelevant in this case. None of the tested apps are a product of google.

edit: Had to edit out the actual DNS addresses to not be auto removed by reddit, but it's the one that starts with adblock and the one that starts with base that I've tried. Both should supposedly block ads.

How do I connect to WireGuard over SSH with Mullvad VPN I know you can do this with OpenVPN and I've been doing that but now that they are removing support for OpenVPN, I still need to be able to connect to Mullvad over an SSH tunnel with WireGuard, does any one know how to do this?

I'm on Ubuntu 25.04. Just came back from a trip and powered on my computer to find networking not working as expected. Wasted half a day trying to figure out wtf is going on. I don't have mullvad start at boot AND there doesn't seem to be advanced settings available in the gui. There ought to be more indication that this functionality exists and is set by default.

Two different (Fedora 42) machines I've had to troubleshoot no internet, both times Mullvad's Lockdown Mode was enabled for some reason. I don't keep vpn on all the time so the application wasn't even loaded. I had to start it up and disable Lockdown Mode to get my internet connection back.

Hey team,

I've been facing a problem for the past few days where I have to solve a captcha verification every time I search for something using the Google search engine.

I know that Google is a nightmare for privacy, but sometimes its search results are more helpful than those from other engines. I've been using Google for a long time, so it feels comfortable for me. Additionally, the location-based search results from Google have been quite useful on multiple occasions.

Is there a solution to this problem? I’m aware that Mullvad has its own search engine, Mullvad Leta, which offers both Google and Brave search options. However, I still think having the actual Google search engine as a backup is a good choice.

im sure someone else probably had this problem but i'm completely lost on what to do, please someone explain it to me like im 9 years old.

the vpn connects perfectly fine when i use openvpn but openvpn kinda sucks so i'd much rather use wireguard. but when i try connecting to wireguard it just sits there spinning forever and i've tried just about everything i found online to fix the issue, does anyone know what the problem could be?

Hi guys,

This has been an issue ever since the beginning. Whenever I disconnect Mullvad VPN, I completely lose my connectivity. This is despite the fact that I have disabled lockdown mode. Even completely quitting the app doesn't work.

I'm using the flatpak client on Nobara. Any help here?

I have tried multiple different ips and it always returns a valid query. my wireshark shows it sending a dns query to the garbage ip address but I get a response back. anyone can explain this? I am running wireguard app on windows 11.

I was successful in getting cloudflare 1.1.1.1 to work, but mullvad dns servers just time out.

I am trying to make a setup where when connected with my laptop to my LAN I have dns for my local devices, but when not on my LAN I also stil have secure dns through mullvad. I want the mullvad tunnel to work both on my LAN and when remote, but have it running on my laptop and not somewhere else on my LAN. I have found no way of doing this. I have found a few other posts on here where people were trying to do the same and nobody got it working. I believe the issue is that mullvad forces itself to be the primary system dns across all interfaces, even when using split tunnel or custom DNS.

Getting "403 error: the request could not be satisfied" whenever I try to access DeviantArt from any Mullvad server. Can connect just fine with VPN off.

Any advice?
