Is it possible to update the Monero consensus mechanism to reject PoW from non-p2pool miners? This would solve 51% attacks and make p2pool the only way to mine in a pool.

This would be a huge fork, I know, but potentially good for the network. Or would the risk of destroying the network hash rate be too great?

What privacy effects would this have? I'd also be concerned about losing the ability to solo mine.

Apparently there was some research being done on this, but the last update was from a couple years ago. Does this idea still hold water in 2025? Would like to gather some opinions.

Here's some other past research:

The ToS says you cannot mine without their prior written approval.

My question is, why not? If mining is:

  • not on their free tier
  • being paid at a premium by you

Why would they care? They're still making money aren't they?

Mining XMR with my own computers at home is basically trading my electricity company fiat for XMR. Mining on AWS is trading fiat to AWS for XMR in that same manner.

Yes, you'd be mining at a loss, but if I expect XMR to go to $100,000 someday, it is worth it to me, isn't it?

Welcome to hundreds of MH/s, enormously fluctuating

Qubic's custom mining serves as a Proof-of-Concept (PoC), demonstrating the network's capacity to utilize the distributed computational power of its "Computors" for executing complex, real-time tasks. All messages for XMR mining are broadcasted via Qubic network. More info at: [github link] Big thank to jtgrassie for a simple and efficient pool software: https://github.com/jtgrassie/monero-pool

==============

From r/MoneroMining - Qubic has become the 5th largest miner a major step forward for decentralization.

Qubic has become the 5th largest miner a major step forward for decentralization. Qubic performs XMR mining only during idle system time, thereby supporting the decentralization of computational power and contributing to a more resilient and distributed infrastructure.

First someone tested the HashVault SOLO pool at 200MH/s for 8 hours. Then the Hash Rate of the normal pool increased by approx. 600MH/s to 1.56 GH/s. Congratulations! Certainly well deserved.

p2pool.io did 13.7% of last 1000 Blocks according to miningpoolstats and HashVault 18.9%.

Today the “mini” p2pool had the same hashrate than the normal p2pool 451 MH/s

As the hashrates currently fluctuate by around 100 MH/s daily, the mini chain should have a higher hashrate tomorrow than the normal p2pool chain.

The fact that the mini side chain has a higher hashrate than the p2pool main chain is likely to cause confusion for some time among older miners.

p2pool mini has been invaded by a big miner resulting in most small miners being kicked out of the PPLNS window. Thus the nano sidechain has been created to help the situation.

No worries about this one being flooded because most will not be able to figure out how to join 😅

Edit: the nano sidechain is doing well

Side chain ID = abf8ce94************************************************25bd0559
Side chain height = 4331
Side chain hashrate = 793.292 KH/s
PPLNS window = 2160 blocks (+22 uncles, 0 orphans)
PPLNS window duration = 19h 17m 4s
Peer list size = 30

The Monero Research Lab (MRL) has decided to recommend that all Monero node operators enable a ban list

https://github.com/Boog900/monero-ban-list/blob/main/ban_list.txt

  • Download the ban list and:

./monerod --ban-list

Did someone say 0% mining fees?

Actually no fees for pool mining, how do you do that?

This is about the official, decentralized Monero mining pool.

The rewards are automatically sent directly to your mining wallet address even for small pool payouts.

Who still uses the old pools from third-party providers, which also charge fees and have relatively high payout limits?

Sometimes I think we just have to mention it twice a day to get it heard. 0% fees, official Monero pool.

Honestly, 0%? Yes, 0%.

How it Works - https://xmrvsbeast.com/

The raffle gives away free bonus hashrate, the more of your own hashrate you contribute the more of the bonus hashrate you earn. The goal of the raffle is to bring more hashrate to p2pool.

Use the rewards calculator to see what you could earn.

https://xmrvsbeast.com/p2pool/estimated_reward.html

A miner contributing 10kH/s goes into the VIP Donor round and can earn around 1.64 XMR/year

The more hashrate in a round the greater the odds of the round being selected, so fire up all your rigs and let's play!

P2Pool fork October 12th, 2024

Technically speaking, the new software has been running for some time - but the hashrate of P2pool is still around 7% of the Monero network. So everything seems to be running as expected. Any feedback, is the new version more demanding for the servers @XMRvsBeast? Did everything go smoothly as expected?

I assume the next revuo issue will cover it.
