The compact comments toggle does not condense the comments, the comments need to be much more condensed to be considered compact

We've been hard at work over the past couple weeks on our 1.1 build. We're excited to be rolling out our first set of new features to the TestFlight beta (and, soon, to the App Store). The highlights:

  • Editing posts and comments
  • Account quick-switching. You can access the new accounts menu by long pressing on the profile tab, swiping up from the tab bar, or going to your profile and using the button in the navigation header.
  • More post customization
  • Compact comments option. Also, the interaction bar now properly collapses when you collapse a comment.
  • Organized the settings and gave them a facelift while we were at it
  • Unread count on the inbox tab (this can be disabled it in settings)
  • The inbox menu now has options to show only unread and mark all messages as read

We've also got a ton of bugfixes, backend changes, minor tweaks, and other goodies for you. You can see the full details on our GitHub page, or just jump into the app and see what's new. Check it out and let us know what you think!

Cheers,

The Mlem Group

Love the native swift app as well as the Apollo-like look and feel. However, I still feel that a lot of these lemmy apps (including this one), still seem modeled on a monolithic backend. Which isn't the case with the fediverse.

For example, if a kbin or lemmy.world instance is down then I get a singular networking error ("Error sending request, please check your internet"; or something like that). If there was a way to show an instance as offline and gracefully communicate that to the user, that would improve the experience quite a bit!

And its also difficult to check which community I should check more often then others. For example, I'm subscribed to at least two games communities. But one has 51 people online with 1200 posts and the other has 250 online with 460 posts. Checking whose online is probably not the best way to gauge community health, but Memmy does that and its better then nothing. "Nothing" being the word for what it is right now.

So it would be nice to move the UI away from a monolithic reddit like client and more into a fediverse multi-serviced backend. Starting with these two issues I've noticed.

Version 1.0.1's scrolling is still extremely choppy to the point that it is unusable on my iPhone 8 Plus. I've tried Memmy, Bean, Avelon, and their scrolling is extremely smooth compared to Mlem's.

My keyword filters such as for “Tesla” are not being applied to my post list.

I feel that comment section has too much excess space even with user logos, etc disabled. Compact mode for posts is perfect. I would love to have the same for comments.

For comparison on my iPhone mini screen, 7 comments on Voyager fits in the space that 4 comments on Mlem does

@mlemapp congratulations for the mlem app on iOS, it seems it has just been out of beta.
Two things btw, 1. https://join-lemmy.org/apps/ still points to the (closed) beta. 2. it requires iOS 16... one may hope for older iOS versions too

Mlem makes me miss Apollo for Reddit lol.

This app seems wonderful. It’s fast and clean, all I could ask for. Similar to Apollo.

159

one of my favorite features of Apollo was being able to hold down on an image and getting 2 options to share or download the image easily, could this be implemented?

Another great looking app!

Swiping to the right gives the option to (in order) hide/collapse the post and then downvote but I don’t see an upvote option in there.

Is that an oversight? Planned? Am I missing something.

Please note: it may take a couple minutes for it to be available in all regions. We just pressed the button.

Mlem for Lemmy is out of beta and live on the App Store!

Thank you to everybody who tested our app and submitted feedback, whether through TestFlight or a GitHub issue or a post on the community. Your insight has been an integral part of making this app what it is, and we look forward to working with you to make it even better in the months to come.

The past month and a half of hard work has been an amazing journey, but this is just the beginning. We hope you give it a download and join us as we strive to bring you the best mobile Lemmy experience we can.

If you scroll by an image and tap on it, then I think the image should open up in full screen.

Right now tapping the image on the feed opens the post where I then have to tap it again. This isn't the worst but doesn't a feel smooth. Especially because a slight delay is required between the two taps. If you mess that up then you have to tap it three times.

If I set the iOS Text Zoom to 135%, the commenting breaks completely. It’s a blank screen. Reverting to 120% is a fix for this.

That is all

Here it is, our 1.0 RC.

There are just a couple more Apple requirements we need to meet to ship but expect no more major features till after AppStore.

NEW

Eric has been toiling from a secret remote location to refine the post layout and bring you some highly-requested customization options. Check out the settings to see what's new!

Weston has been polishing the voiceover and dynamic text features and implemented the first version of blocking users (currently done via posts).

Mormaer has been tweaking the session authentication and refreshing... you shouldn't be logged out without warning anymore. Be advised, due to these changes you will have to log in again upon first launch.

He also built a new account switcher that now lives in the settings screen (we are planning to revisit this soon, we aren't huge fans of the new location either but we needed it out of the home screen).

Darknavi and Jo have been helping out with PR reviews, bug fixes and lots of behind the scenes ops stuff.

BUG FIXES

Lots of tiny stuff here, not gonna add them all, but mostly just spit and polish getting ready for the AppStore.

COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS

Thanks to tht7 for a ton of performance work. Thanks to Sjmarf for the PR improving the timestamp component.

WEBSITE

It's super basic, but needed for Apple, https://mlem.group will be our landing going forward. Links to all the important stuff like community, chat and TestFlight should be there.

NEXT

For Apple we need to finish up some reporting entry points and get the about page updated to take care of license commitments. We are aiming to be under review my Friday, but that might change.

We want to thank everyone for participating in this TestFlight and providing feedback. We are still debating keeping it open after launch, watch this space for more info once we have it.

Thank you for your support. 🙏

The Mlem Group

EDIT: We are aware that you might have to sign in again with this update, but it should be the last time. It was necessary as part of the session fixes we put in. We apologize for this.

There are no posts under subscriptions and I'm thinking that it might be related to the hack of lemmy.world yesterday. I saw that for some 3rd party apps you'll need to logout and then back in again but I can't seem to find a way to log out with Mlem.

Is it correct, that i cant attach images to new posts?

Hello, after a week or so of successful Mlem use it has stopped launching and won’t update.

I’m using an iPhone XS on iOS 16.3.1

I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, no luck.

Please help me lemmyverse!

Edit: Turns out I just had to restart my Phone. Credit Dopaz42 for the troubleshooting.

Can we add custom font sizing? I would like to increase comment font size for example. I have a large system font size but I’d like to have settings to increase/decrease in the app.

171

If it’s just going to reset every time you update, why have it at all? It’s just sort of meaningless.

172

The app has been broken for me for the whole week now

173

Is there any eta for this version releasing? Do you guys know if it will be in the App Store version?

174

Does this app support multiple logins or instances? I cannot find a place to enter more or even logout of my current one

175

The screen jumps back up when scrolling down to the bottom of the comment section.

Please see the attached link to the video recording.

(I don't know how to upload videos to a post using the app.)
